LENGUA EXTRANJERA 1

El dominio de lenguas distintas a la propia se ha convertido en la sociedad actual


en una necesidad y en una aspiraci6n de un sector importante de la poblacin, a las que
el sistema educativo trata de responder a lo largo de las diferentes etapas educativas.
Queda patente, tanto en los objetivos como en la estruclura de Bachillerato, [a
gran importancia que se otorga a las lenguas extranjeras.

Si bien el primer objetivo'del currculo del Bachillerato es "Dominar la lengua


castellana...", el segundo objetivo es "Expresarse con fluidez y correccin en una lengua
extranjera".
Consecuentemente, dentro de la organizacin del Bachillerato, entre las materias
comunes, obligatorias para todos los alumnos, s91o hay dos que estn presentes en
ambos cursos: la lengua castellana y literatura, y la lengua extranjera.

Como alumno que accedes al primer curso de Bachillerato llevas varios aos
estudiando una lengua extranjera y debes haber adquirido soltura suficiente para
desenvolverte en situaciones de la vida corriente. Por lo tanto, ahora el aprendizaje ha de
consistir en una prolongacin, consolidacin y especializacin de Ias capacidades que
has adquirido a lo largo de estos aos. En este sentido, los contenidos del estudio de la
lengua extranjera no difieren grandemente de los anteriores, aunque en otro nivel de
conocimiento, de capacidad de comunicacin, de anlisis y reflexin.
Por lo tanto, en este curso debes desarrollar al mximo tu autonornia con
respecto a tu propio progreso, de forma que puedas controlar tus propias producciones
con mayor rigor, convirtiendo la lengua en un instrumento y medio personalizado de
comunicacin, en su doble vertiente de produccin y de comprenson.
Por ltimo, recuerda que el aprender una lengua extra-njera no solo sirve para
poder expresarse y comunicarse en ese idioma, [o cual no es poco y realmente puede
considerarse un fin en s i mismo, sino que tambin contribuye a tu formacin intelectual
general refonando tus capacidades cognitivas, desarrollando tu propia autonoma, as
como ampliando tus horizontes y conocimientos sobre culturas extranjeras, lo que te
permitir una mejor comprensin y vaIoracion critica del mundo actual.

Para que te hagas una idea de lo que debes estudiar y del modo en que debes
orienlar tu aprendizaje, a continuacin te presentamos los criterios de evaluacin por los
que se van a regir los exmenes que debas realizar. En consecuencia, al terminar el
curso de 1"de
Bachillerato, debers ser capaz de:
l. Comprender e interpretar la informacin global y especifica

transmitida por

un interlocutor, sobre temas relacionados con tu realidad colidiana, con


aspectos culturales y sociales de los pases en que se habla la lengua extranjera
y sobre temas de inters general.
2. Comprender e interpretar correctamente el contenido global e ideas principales
contenidas en la informacin difundida a travgs de los medios de
comunicacin. Programas (noticias, anuncios, series, etc.) que se emitan en la
radio o televisiCin y con los que ests familiarizado.
3. Organizar y expresar oralmente tus propias ideas, opiniones, sentimientos y
necesidades de forma clara y ordenada, produciendo un discurso comprensible y
adecuado a la situacin.
4. Participar con fluidez en conversacianes improvisadas o en narraciones,

exposiciones o debates previamente preparados sobre temas de actualidad,


as como sobre cualquier tipo de informaciiin o tema de inters para ti.

5. Leer y comprender diversos tipos de textos autnticos de inters general y de


divulgacibn (procedentes de peridicos, revistas, libros de divulgacin) con la
suficiente precisiiin como para analizar criticamente la informaci8n, reelaborarla, y
utilizarla en producciones propias.
6. Leer, con ayuda del diccionario, versiones originales de textos literarios

sencillos e interpretar correctamente las ideas principales (argumento, orden de


las secuencias, etc.), as como la intencion del autor.
7. Redactar, con ayuda del material de consulta pertinente, textos

escritos que

exijan una planificacin y una elaboracin de los contenidos con la fluidez,

correccin y coherencia interna suficientes para su buena comprensin.


8. Utilizar tus conocimientos sobre el funcionamiento de la lengua extranjera para

controlar y corregir tus propias producciones.

Presentacibn del libro de texto (Valid Choice 1)


El libro de texto con el que vas a trabajar se compone, muy en general, de los

siguientes bloques:

Una gula de Expresibn escrita para redactar en Ingles (en espaol), que incluye

modelos de redaccin (textos narrativos, descriptivos, informativos, redaccibn de

Starting Out: Introduce el tema a modo de "disparador"o introductor del tema que

se desarrollarA a continuacin. Se trata de una actividad breve que suele consistir


en una pregunta o imagen que despierta reaccin por parte del alumno.

Reading the Texl: Se presenta un texto escrito, de distintos tipos, variedad y

ternatica que motive al alumno. Previo al texto de cada unidad se presenta una
estrategia para la lectura eficaz.

Words from the Text : Ejercicio de vocabulario en el que se presentan un grupo


de palabras para que el alumno encuentre sinonirnosl antonimos en el texto.

False friends: Se extraen palabras del texto que por su similitud con las palabras

de la lengua materna conducen a confusin, pues su significado es distinto en una

y otra lengua. En esta parte se explica el verdadero significado de la palabra.


Grarnmar: En esta seccidn se presentan contenidos gramaticales y se practica

con ejercicios relativos a la estructura recin presentada con el fin de practicar y


consolidar la estructura gramatical.

Topic \/ocabiilary: Se recogen palabras que se suponen ya adquiridas por el

alumno en las fases previas de aprendizaje, y se presenta nuevo vocabulario


referente al campo sernntico del tema que aparece en la lectura del texto. Este

nuevo lexico sera el que luego se empleara en las actividades comunicativas de


Listening y Speaking.
[ T - y s t e icono indica una sencilla actividad de conversacion por parejas

Wordpower . Consiste en concisas pautas sobre la composicibn y forrnaci6n de

palabras que ayudan al alumno a reconocer y ampliar su vocabulario.


Say it rght . Mediante este apartado, el alumno escucha la correcta

pronunciacin de las palabras nuevas que se presentan en esta unidad. En primer


lugar se trabaja la pronunciacidn de las palabras individualmente, y a continuacidn

se trabajan contextualizadas en frases y expresones idiom8ticas.

Writing. En esta seccin se presenta o repasa un modeIo de redaccin por cada


unidad.
iNrite it right. Al igual que con [as actividades de Readns, en esta parte se
presenta a se repasa por cada unidad una estrategia de redaccion o expresidn

escrita.

LISTENING.AND SPEAKING En esta secci6n escuchars una serie de textos


variados seguidos de ejercicios de varios tipos. Es importante hacer estos ejercicios de
coniprensibn auditiva y que, una vez hechos, vuelvas a escuchar la grabacin siguiendo
esta vez e1 guin que aparece al final de la w'a
Focus on Useful Expressions. Se presentan una serie de expresiones habituales
y tiles por su uso, organizadas por funciones linglsticas: Expresar preferencias,
opiniones, disculparse, despedirse.

CHECK YOURSELF. Despus de cada unidad esta pgina repasa lo estudiado en la


Iecciiin .

LOS CDs
Hay dos tipos de CDs.: el Class Audio CD que contiene todas las grabaciones de 10s
textos del libro de texto (las pistas aparecen reflejadas en la lista que aparece al final de
la guq antes de los guiones -scripts-), y el Student's Activity Multirom, con los
listenings del workbook y ejercicios extra de grarntca, vocabdario y audici6n. Este
CD se puede usar en un PC para su mejor aprovechamiento, o en un reproductor de Cds.
(solo audio).

Para un buen rendimiento es totalmente imprescindible el uso de este material.


Escuchar las grabaciones y hacer todos los ejercicios orales te ayudara a mejorar tu
pronunciacibn y tu comprensihn auditiva. En el examen habrk un ejercicio de
"listening", destinado a valorar tu comprension oraI.
EL WORKBOOK
Adernas del libro de texto, dispones del Workbook que se encarga de consolidar lo
aprendido en cada unidad mediante actividades de refuerzo. Su estructura es similar a la del
libro de texto y deberas realizar las actividades de cada unidad una vez que hayas linalizada
el estudio de la unidad correspondiente.

Otro material recomendable


Aunque el libro de texto tiene un pequeo glosario con las palabras nuevas de cada

unidad, conviene que tengas a mano un buen diccionario. Lo encontraras til en numerosas
ocasiones, especialmente cuando escribas tus redacciones.
Existen prestigiosas editoriales en el mercado (Oxord, Longman, Collins, Heinemann,
etc) que ofrecen diccionarios de gran calidad e incluso diccionarios online en Internet. Hay

dos tipos de diccionario: monolinges (es decir, ingles-ingls) que te explican el significado
de Ia palabra en ingls, y diccionarios bilinges (ingles-espaol, espafiol-ingls) que te
traducen la palabra al espaol o al ingles segun corresponda. Quizs para alumnos que han
elegido la modalidad a distancia sea mas praclico utiIizar un diccionario bilinge que los
saque de dudas utilizando la lengua.materna. Sin embargo. si en el futuro tienes inters en
seguir aumentando tus conocimientos de ingles, tampoco estaria mal pensar en uno
monolinge porque eslos te ayudan a pensar directamente en ingles e ir acostumbrandote a
no traducir cuando hablas o escribes en ingles.
Tambien conviene que sepas que en el mercado hay una gran variedad de libros de
lectura graduados a diferentes niveles que te ayudaran a practicar la lectura, aumentar tu
vocabulario y adquirir una mayor fluidez.
Si observas que necesitas un repaso gramatical mas profundo, existen exceIentes
gramticas que permiten el aprendizaje autonomo porque disponen de una parte terica y
otra de ejercicios con su correspondiente clave de respuestas.

BURLiNGTON SPEECH TRAINER

Es un Cd-rom para utiiizar en el ordenador. Este CD es un mtodo para mejorar la


pronunciaciun. Tiene ejercicios variados y muy apropiados para ayudarnos a pronunciar
mejor. Es importante hacerlo al final de cada unidad, cuando lo propone el texto.

En muchos de los CDs de este tipo, eI sistema de reconocimiento de voz nos da siempre
como mai nuestras producciones. No hay que desanimarse si esto nos ocurre siempre y
hay que seguir avanzando,pero teniendo siempre en cuenta las indicaciones que nos
hacen y despus de ver y hacer todos los ejercicios, que son muy buenos.

ACTIMDAIDES PARA ENVIAR AL, TUTOR


En cada unidad, en el apartado de WRITING, se proponen dos redacciones bajo el
epgrafe de TASK una en el Iibro de texto y otra en el workbook. Las dos
corresponden al mismo modelo y se deben de hacer siguiendo 10s pasos que nos
propone el libro de texto. Es importante seguir las instrucciones y estudiar los modelos
de la "Writing Guide" a que nos dirige el libro. Se deben hacer las dos redacciones y
eIegir UNA de ellas para enviar al tutor.

El proceso de la esciitura implica
una serie de pasos. El primero de
ellos es el de la tormenta de ideas
(brainstorming). El brainstorming es
un manera d e conseguir ideas y
hacer un mapa de palabras (word
rnap) es un tipo de tormenta de
ideas. El que te presenta el libro
tiene forma de araa. Primero
debes apuntar todo lo que se te
ocurra referido al tema de la
composicin. En un segundo lugar,
