Inventors who posses the knowledge, intuition and creativity to turn their ideas into
reality in the field of electronics are the real life electrical engineers. The reading of
Practical Electronics for Inventors by Paul Schemer made me delve deep into the
fascinating world of applied electronics as seen from the perspective of an inventor and
an engineer alike. This provided me a clarity on the designing of Integrated circuits and
the applied realm of Analog/Digital Electronics in the broader framework of Electrical
Engineering.I was entirely thrilled by the prospect of expanding my horizons of electronic
engineering and eagerly set my eyes on majoring in Electronics and communication
Engineering from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. My present academic
credentials and focused research interest lies in the areas of VLSI,Nanoelectronics and
Wireless Networks.I am overwhelmed with the thoughts of how, with my current
scholastic competencies and research skills set,I shall blend myself into a world class
iconic academic and research system that Carnegie Mellon University stands for.
I will be graduating with Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication. As
a project associate intern at Doordarshan Kendra,New Delhi I am part of a dynamic team
that works in the Master Switching Room(MSR) of the department to usher the
transmission of both audio and video signals. Also I am involved in the power
amplification and mixing of signal, some of the equipments that I use for this purpose are
16*8 Audio/video switcher,Sync generator,Sigma router,Vectrometer. Although I derive
utmost job satisfaction yet my heart lies in continuance of my research interest in the
field of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The latter has made me focus on Design and development of System level for Reconfigurable Computing Systems at Central Electronics Engineering Research
Institute,Pilani. Here,I have developed modular and flexible manufacturing systems for
cost effective manufacturing of multi material micro systems/devices, having 3D
geometries with high aspect ratio. This network project uses SPA based handling system
for micro factory manipulations and laser processing.Under Government of India, this
project has been ratified for a large scale installation at CEERI for its further
research. This infuses me with a sense of pride given the fact that only a handful of
research at CEERI comes to such fruition.
The research bug bit me early on in my school days and my competencies in developing
mathematical and statistical models grew right from my freshman year.Every Indian
Engineering student would dream of working with one of the best public sectors
companies in India.I got a golden chance to work in Bharat Heavy Electricals
Limited(BHEL).BHEL spearheads cutting edge research in manufacturing of large size
steam and gas turbines, turbo generators, heat exchangers, condensers and
auxiliaries. When I was handpicked by the BSNL Delhi research team under the
mentorship of eminent Mrs Shashi Anand,it was a dream come true. Here, the challenge
was to a manage existing Synchronous Digital Hierarchy(SDH)network architecture with
Dense Wavelength Digital Multiplexing (DWDM)Optical Fiber System. This DWDM and
SDH architecture provides a high data traffic and voice traffic which is the need for
todays world.I took this challenge and plunged myself headlong that how this technology
can be applied in the nearby residential areas and further can be used as local area
networks (LANs).This research led to the development in the DWDM-based LANs. I owe
all my junior and senior year project success to my rewarding association with BSNL and
CEERI and also, the rich exposure I fortunately got while using advanced equipments at
BSNL and CEERI.

During my sophomore year, I joined Touch India Trust a NGO,where I was part of the
Mathematics tutoring team.I taught the children of downtrodden sections of the
society, rudimentary maths and science concepts to more than forty 5th and 6th grade
students. I have actively participated in the Rio+21 IYWC program engineered by Indian
Government and United Nations in colleges to promote the objectives of Water
Conservation and sustainable development. To hone my technical and analytical skills I
have been attending seminars and symposiums like development of Android applications
and Introduction to Business Psychology.I am an avid follower of IEEE spectrum and
blogs to keep myself abreast of the latest happenings in the field of Information and
Communication technologies.
India has an increasing demand for an intelligent infrastructure in the domain of
economical consumer electronics. My desire to contribute to the growth of my nation and
the world at large in this field makes a graduate education imperative. It would help me
gain much needed exposure and knowledge to streamline my interests, hone my skills
and decide between a career in academia and industry.I firmly believe that earning a
Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering at CMU with a focus on Analog
Electronics and Nanoscale Systems will be a significant step towards achieving my
goal. The Field of Electrical and Computer Engineering is ever expanding throwing open
avenues of research that promise to greatly impact the welfare and happiness of
humankind and CMU recognizes it to be an all-encompassing engineering knowledge
with befitting cources as diverse as Advanced Digital IC Design(18-622),Smart grids
and future electric energy systems(18-618) and Vlsi CAD(18-760).
Whether it is my undergrad thesis, aforementioned project works or research
contribution at BSNL,CEERI and BHEL amalgamates to enable me draw a road-map to
undertake future endeavors in Engineering field at CMU.I am riveted with Prof.Denijela
Cabrics multifarious research interests in the focused areas of Wireless
communication,Vlsi Design and Cognitive radio Networks, as also the cutting-edge
research she heads at the Cognitive Re-configurable Embedded Systems (CORES) lab.On
the other hand Professor Diana Huffaker,a stalwart in the The Integrated Nanomaterials
Core Lab has engrossed me to the core with her works on optoelectronics devices ,MWIR
application and solar cells.
UCLAs Electrical Engineering program is highly captivating with a streamlined
curriculum and an extraordinary research opportunities provided at state-of-the-art
Laboratory fascilities at Western Institute of nano-electronics(WIN),Function
Accelerated nanoMaterial Engineering(FAME) and IMPACT.Having been a consistent
achiever throughout my academic career and harboring a research outlook, I am
confident of meeting UCLAs scholastic standards.Still my thirst for knowledge in this
exciting field remains unquenchable.I am deeply convinced that UCLAs engineering
fountain head of incessant spring flow in the field of Circuits and Embedded Systems
will certainly quench my thirst.
