Reason of test

By order of KRT Kanalsanierungs-Technik AG we did a first suitability test of 2 pipe sections with
cured-in-place pipes on the basis of EP resin / synthetic fibre felt with diameter DN 300, testing
abrasion resistance acc. to standards DIN EN 295, Part 3 and DIN 19565, Part 1. The test specimens
have the material ID: KRT PES-2021.

Test implementation

As specified by DIN 19565, Part 1 and DIN EN 295, Part 3, we closed the ends of 1,000 mm long pipe
sections by face sealing plates and filled them with a mixture of sand, gravel and water. The pipe
sections were tilted in the test jig in alternating axial directions by 22.5 so that the movement of the
test material would cause abrasion on the inner pipe surface (Illus. 1 and 2). Acc. to the test
specifications the test material was natural, uncrushed, round quartz gravel with grain size
characteristics meeting the following requirements:

mean grain size

MP

d50

= 6 mm

degree of variability

d80 / d20 = 8.4mm/4.2mm=2

We filled 5.5 kg of test material into the pipe acc. to DIN 19565, Part 1, and then added water until the
surface was 203 mm wide.
We conducted the test with 200,000 load cycles in order to determine the surface abrasion.

Result

The pipe sections tested in the "Darmstadt process" acc. to DIN 19565, Part 1, were removed after
100,000 and 200,000 load cycles to determine the abrasion.

Illus. 5: inner pipe surface after 200,000 load cycles

When the required 100,000 load cycles had been performed no damage of the inner film could be
visually detected (Illus. 5). No significant abrasion could be determined by measuring after 100,000
load cycles (Illus. 3). Neither could any significant abrasion be visually detected after 200,000 load
cycles (Illus. 4).
In summary we can confirm that the EP/synthetic fibre pipes under test are resistant to abrasion in the
abrasion test acc. to DIN EN 295, Part 3 / DIN 19565, Part 1. The film coating protects the pipe
against abrasion. There was no abrasion on the load-bearing laminate.
