3. FUNDAMENTO TERICO / THEORETICAL BASIS

The structure is a steel support which functions connecting system components:
Rotor, Stator, Tower and Tail. By raising these components a better use of wind
power is achieved, because a greater height above amounts to greater wind
speed and herse of rotation of the blades.

A. PREPARING THE PARTS

Body Tube

Take the tube for the body and apply the

paper template around the top of the surface,
take care to make sure that the two ends align.
If there is a lot of excess use the table
saw to remove the waste. If there is a small
amount of excess use the hand grinder (with
the grinding wheel).
Make sure that the
surfaces remain flat.
Proceed to work down the two arcs with
the hand grinder (with the grinding wheel).

Bearing Disk
Apply paper template to one of the flat
faces on the disk, then grind the waste with the
bench grinder.
Use the drill press to make the 12.7 mm
hole, for the three phase cable from the stator to
pass through. First drill a pilot hole (7mm) then
the 12.7mm (0.5 in) hole. Use the bench grinder
to remove any birrs.
Now apply the second template to the
other side lining the hole with the corresponding
mark on the template.
Finally use the bench grinder to create the
chamfered edge.
Axel

Mark 159 mm from the outer most end of

the threaded section of the axle.
Drill a pilot hole (7mm) taking care to
ensure the drill passes though the centre of the
axel. Then the 12.7mm (0.5 in) hole. Use the
bench grinder to remove any birrs.

B. STRUCTURE
Fixing The Bearing Disk To The
Structure Body
The Disk for locating the bearing needs
to be set 5mm below the surface of the
body tube.
Place the body tube in the mount on
the vice.
Use two vice grips to set the depth and
hold the pieces in place.
Spot weld at 0, 120, and 240 degrees
the chamfered edge to the inside of the
tube.
Complete the bead around the two work
pieces.
Clean around the weld, especially close
to the worked surfaces.
Securing The Stator Mount To The Axle
Place the stator mount around the threaded end of the axle like a
sleeve.
Place the two parts in the mount on the vice ensuring that the
12.7 mm hole on the axle lines up with one of the three stator
mount holes.
Check that the angle is 90 degrees between the stator mount and
the axle with a set square.
Spot weld between the stator mount and the axle on the side
pointing upwards at 0, 120, and 240 degrees.
Complete the weld around the two parts.

Locating And Securing Axle/Stator Mount To The

Body/Bearing Mount
Take a section of threaded rod and place one end
through the bearing mount and the other through the
axle and secure using nuts.
Make sure that the axle houses in the worked edges
on the body tube.
Spot weld at the two ends of the axel on both sides.
Complete the weld around the surfaces.
Remove threaded rod.

DISCUSIN Y RESULTADOS / DISCUSION

Discussion about the proper functioning or quality of the finished part:

Please rate (1 Worst, 5

Best):

Notes:

How uniform and evenly

distributed are the welds?
How square are the parts?
How aligned are the holes?
Are the axle threads
protected?
How does it look?

CONCLUSIN
Each group presents the conclusions we arrived at during construction with specific focus on
the processes undertaken, and this guide. Please include notes including ways to improve,
other diagrams to use, or parts that were very useful/not useful.
