Analysis and Interpretation of Data

Fifty (50) questionnaires were given to persons in the District of Port Antonio,
Boundbrook community. Two (2) Interviews were conducted with individuals in
that area also.
In Port Antonio Boundbrook the unemployed ratio was 5:3. 5 are person that are
employed and 3are person that are unemployed.

The unemployment rate is

Thus, there are many persons seeking jobs in that area so at least 10 persons trying
to obtain that same job. They are level of the firm satisfaction, qualification and
welfare that they consider for choosing the right person for the job.
Out of 50 unemployed person 17 prefer working in a store, 6 prefer the field of
laws, 19 medical and 8 rather others jobs.

unemployment can be defined as a situation where an individual is unable to gain
employment although he/she is willing and able to work and is actively searching
for a job. There are different types of unemployment that affect the resident in the
District of Boundbrook Port Antonio such as Seasonal unemployment where
workers only have job at certain time of the year. When the season is over there are
unemployed for the rest of the year. There is frictional unemployment that is a brief
period experienced by people moving between jobs or into the labour market.
There is also Structural Unemployment which occurs when certain industries
decline because of long term changes in market conditions and Cyclical
Unemployment also known as Demand-deficient Unemployment that exists when
individuals lose their job as a result of downturn in aggregate demand. Real Wage
that also known as Classical unemployment that occurs when the real wage for a
job is forced higher than the market-clearing wage level. When this happens, there
tends to be a surplus amount of labour.
In figure 1shows depicts the number of persons searching for jobs, there are 2
persons that search for employment daily, 5 persons weekly, 24 monthly and 47
also searching for job yearly. At least contradicting search for a job more than half
of the 50 survey issue to the resident in the District of Boundbrook Port Antonio

search for job daily, five (5) person weekly, twenty-four (24) monthly and fourtyseven (47) person in the area of Boundbrook Port Antonio search for job yearly.
Figure 2 show the demand for job by these residents is based on (3) three type of
job store work, field of law and medical careers. Out of all of them medical career
was the area was mostly wanted by the resident of the 50 Questionnaire that was
issue it was (19) nineteen, (17) seventeen wanted to work in store and (8) eight
wanted other jobs. Causes for the demand for the medical career and the field of
law are that these jobs give a lot more income than the other and will able to cover
their expenses at their home. Some of the resident demand store works because
they dont have the skills and qualification for the other jobs.
From figure 3, you can see that they are no one from the area that have highly
develop standard of qualification. The higher qualification you have the more you
will be hired for a job that is available. The most common qualification that is in
the community was certificate which only sixteen (16) persons had. The majority
of the population dont have any qualification which cause most of them
unemployed and two (2) persons had qualification of a Degree and the rest that are
left out of the 50 questionnaire was (5) five which have Diploma. Qualification is
important and coupled with the right experiences this most business is looking for;
for instance they will widen choices of jobs and are less likely to end up in a dead
end job. It also gives a better chance to earn more money and the qualification

show employers that knowledge and skills you have. Qualifications affect
employment by without the qualification requires you will unable to receive those
available jobs.
Figure 4 shows the causes of unemployment within the area of Boundbrook Port
Antonio. There are causes such as wage rate which people demand for increasing
in work wage and if not increase they will leave to find a job that pay more and if
there is available job and it doesnt pay well they will look for another one. There
is an average of 22% of people within the District that wage rate is a cause for
them being unemployed. 15% of resident unemployed causes by retrenchment;
when firm is producing negative externality is force to produce output or shutdown
then worker will be retrench leave them unemployed. 35% of resident dont have
the skills and qualification needed to get the job available and 27% are the others
that have others causes for them to be unemployed. These other causes are rapid
change in technology, changes in tastes as well as alterations in the climatic
conditions. This may in turn lead to decline in demand for certain services as well
as products. Discriminating factors in the place of work (may include
discrimination on the basis of age, class, ethnicity, color and race).
Figure 5 Mostly male are unemployed within the District of Boundbrook, Port
Antonio its an average of 14 of 50 are female that are unemployed and 36 of 50
are female that are unemployed of the 50 questionnaire that are issue. This because

males are mostly employed in jobs that are taken over by machine due to rapid
changes in technology which leave them unemployed and woman are in jobs such
as receptionist which will last for a long period of time during the work place
Because of unemployment such as seasonal unemployment and structural when
certain industries decline because of long term changes in make condition some of
the resident wanted to leave the community to go and find a better place to seek for
jobs.
Figure 6 show that it is approximately 10% of the survey say by the resident that
they are leaving the community in the future.
Figure 7 shows resident that have similar ideas how unemployment can reduce
reduces within their community. The (3) three main ideas are similar said by the
resident are:
To have a retraining program that can assist those who are seasonally
unemployed to find jobs during low seasons of the years.
Building of a factory which can create work for the people that have skills
and people that dont and enable them to earn income so they can have a
better life.

Self-Employment- A Interview were conducted with (2) two of the resident


and one saying that if he self-employed he will get to work and run his own
business and help create jobs for the unemployed so they can help developed
the community by Spending more money in the economy which the
government collect as taxes to use as government expenditure and built
school, better security and clean the streets to avoid them from the diseases.
The Consequences Employment is many it include loss of income, family stress
and, often, psychological questioning about ones worth and values in the world.
Unemployed individual have to go through a tight economic crunch. They are
unable to meet their financial obligations. This may lead to a decline in their
standard of living. Lack of funds is sure to have a deep impact on their expenses.
The consequences of unemployment can be as grave as homelessness due to failure
of the unemployed individuals to repay home loans or pay house rents.
