CAMP WEONA
WELCOME!
Discover what summer dreams are made of in a place where only good prevails at resident
YMCA Camp Weona. Each day is full of new adventures, whether hiking a trail, kayaking
under the blue sky, making new friends, singing by the campfire, jumping into the refreshing
pool, setting up a campsite, or fishing at the lake. YMCA Camp Weona serves children 6-17
years old with exciting summer camp options for one, two, or several week stays, with both
traditional and high adventure activities.
With over a century of camping experience that is built on the Christian heritage of the
YMCA, we value honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility as well as diversity, inclusion, and
stewardship. Youll find that your child is better at meeting and getting to know people and is
more willing to take positive risks and learn new things. Campers return home with increased
self esteem, friendship building skills, and the ability to make good decisions on their own.

We pride ourselves in selecting staff that are role models of honesty, caring, respect, and
responsibility. We recruit from local high schools and colleges as well as all over the country
and around the world. All staff participate in an intensive week-long residential training that
includes safety management, working with children in group settings, leading activities, camp
policies and procedures, and child abuse prevention. Required staff members are lifeguard,
CPR, and first aid certified and hold other nationally-recognized certifications as well.
YMCA Camp Weona is a group work camp. Groups of 8-12 campers of similar gender and age
attend daily activities together as a cabin with their counselors. We aim to foster a family-like
atmosphere while providing a safe, fun, and enriching environment for your child.
Health
Our program design has the safety of campers in mind. A full-time camp health officer lives
on site 24 hours a day. Camp is regulated by the New York State Health Department and
accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA). For more information visit the NYS
Health Department and ACA web sites.
menu
Our Back-To-Basics menu is prepared daily in the camp dining hall. We offer items that
children enjoy and that will help sustain them through long camp days. As part of our
commitment to healthy living we offer a full cereal/salad bar with fresh fruits and vegetables,
use whole grain pastas and breads, and provide vegetarian alternatives upon request.
The YMCA Camp Weona dining hall is a peanut free environment. Other dietary needs can be
supported with advanced notice to the Food Service Manager who is well versed in providing
alternatives for campers and staff with sensitivities/allergies to milk, eggs, gluten, tree-nuts
and other common food related sensitivities/allergies.
rag program
Started in 1914 by YMCA Camp Director Thomas Caldwell, the Rag program centers on
personal growth and is a way to mark levels of self-development. Through goal setting,
commitment, and positive values, campers learn to assess their needs and enrich themselves
spiritually. This is an optional program for campers wanting to dedicate themselves to noble
living. Learn more online at CampWeona.org.
Tech-Free Environment
At Camp Weona we recognize the importance of unplugging from the outside world filled with
media and gadgets and reconnecting with nature. Thats why we are a Tech-Free camp! That
means cell phones, iPods, video games, and all other similar electronics stay home for the
summer.
cabin life
At YMCA Camp Weona small groups of 8-12 campers live together
with two cabin leaders and attend daily activities as a cabin group.
Cabin groups consist of boys or girls entering similar grades. Each
group belongs to an age specific unit sharing common activities and
special programs. Each child will have the opportunity to choose
one bunkmate of similar age. We make every attempt to honor these
requests, but it may not always be possible.

Does your camper love horses? With qualified staff at the reins, your
child will be able to expand their horsemanship skills while sharing
this fulfilling experience with friends. YMCA Camp Weona Wrangler
Camp combines the best of our traditional resident overnight camp
with an extended Wrangler activity period each day. Each Wrangler
period includes a riding lesson, in-barn lesson, barn chores, and other
activities. Our campers ride every day, weather permitting. At the end
of each week, all Wranglers go on a trail ride. Sessions are separated
by skill level so that our campers can experience the program with
riders of their own skill level, so that we can better optimize the
attention given to each camper.
Maximum enrollment per session is 12.

assistance is determined through a confidential application process and a personal interview
with the applicant. Assistance is granted on the basis of financial need resulting from low
income, emergency expenses, or other circumstances. Through our annual Earn Your Way to
