2nd /3rd APRIL 2016

Dear Parishioners,

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. We are well into celebrating the

Holy Year of Mercy. Pope Francis speaks again and again of Gods
compassion, forgiveness, understanding and mercy. There is much for us to heed.
St Thomas refuses to believe that Jesus has risen until he sees Jesus for himself. St
Peter is not rebuked for denying even knowing Jesus; nor is the others reprimanded for
running away.
In all his dealings with the apostles, sinners, those who asked for healing, Jesus was
always patient, compassionate and merciful. This is what we celebrate today, and in turn are
invited to do as Jesus did.
Welcome: We welcome Fr Tom Ryan (no relation), the Columban priest who is
making a Mission Appeal on behalf of the Columban Missionary Society. Please be as
generous as you can.
Calais- Refugee Visit: No words can describe the generosity you have shown as a
parish in responding to the request to help our brothers and sisters who are stranded in
Calais. We could go into great debates to discover why people have left Afghanistan, Ethiopia,
Sudan, Syria, Eritrea, etc., to languish in The Jungle in Calais. They are leaving war zones,
persecution and starvation and many other genuine reasons. Im sure in the mix; there are
some who should not be there. In the meantime we need to deal with a human problem.
We took all the goods to the Catholic Worker House run by Brother Johannes Maertens
and his helpers. He was overwhelmed by the goods but also by the generous cheque of
1,300 which was donated and will go to support the refugees in need.
It was valuable to make the visit and see all that is involved in supporting the 4,000 on
site, including 300 unaccompanied children. The support and organisation amongst the
refugees themselves was must enlightening. The opposition from police; some locals and
others was also an eye-opener.
We hope to have some photos etc., in due course to show the full story. In the
meantime, if you could get: the Lotus Flower Calais in You Tube is a very powerful
15minutes presentation on the Calais situation. Many thanks again for all your generosity.
Visit to Tipperary: While Fr Tom is here at the weekend, I thought a quick visit to
Tipperary would be in order. Please pray for my niece Ann, diagnosed with cancer.
Thats all for this week. God Bless.
Fr Joe

PLANNING GIVING & GIFT AID OFFERTORY

ENVELOPES for 2016-2017 ARE
AVAILABLE FOR COLLECTION.
The Offertory Envelopes starting next
Sunday, 10th April can be collected after all
Masses today and during the month of April.
We thank all who support our parish through
the weekly offertory envelopes and Standing
Orders.
For parishioners who do not use offertory
envelopes, there are advantages in doing so.
As well as having confidentiality, they will
accept responsibility for their share of the
ongoing work of the parish and the upkeep of
the parish property.
For those who are UK tax payers: working
full-time or part-time; if you pay tax on a
pension or savings account, by being in the
Gift Aid Scheme, for every 1 you give, we are
able to claim back 25p from the government.
If you pay less Income Tax and or Capital
Gains Tax in the current tax year that the
amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your
donations, it will be your responsibility to pay
any difference.
This weekend and the following weekends a
member of the Finance Committee will be
available to sign up any parishioners who wish
to make their contribution by standing order
and new parishioners who wish to sign up for
envelopes.
For the past few years several parishioners
did not collect their box of envelopes, please
let us know if you still want a set of offertory
envelopes.
Also if you are on Gift Aid and you no
longer pay tax please contact Germaine
during office hours.
Thank You all for your generosity.
TO AVOID CONPLICATIONS, PLEASE DO
NOT USE ENVELOPES FROM THE PREVIOUS
YEARS; AND IF YOU DO, DONT BLOCK OUT
THE YEAR SO YOUR DONATION COULD BE
CORRECTLY RECORDED.
~~ OUR CHURCH CAR PARK ~~
HAVE 16 MARKED PARKING BAYS AND
CAN ONLY FACILITATE THE MAXIMUM OF
16 CARS and NO MORE.
PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE GATES.
Thank you.
