TORTURE:
Any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is
intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining information or
a confession, punishing him for an act has committed or is suspected of having
committed, or intimidating or coercing, or for any reason based on
discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the
instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other
person acting in an official capacity. In addition to state-sponsored torture,
individuals or groups may inflict torture on others.

PROPONENTS VIEW:
Torture should be legalized and is a "morally defensible" interrogation method.
In a paper soon to be published in a US law journal, the head of Deakin
University's law school, Mirko Bagaric, and his colleague Julie Clarke argue that
when many lives are in imminent danger, "all forms of harm may be inflicted on
the [suspect] - even if this results in his or her annihilation".

A POINT OF VIEW OPPOSITE TO THE PROPONENT:

Tortures are of various types. The example that im going to give below is
beyond the limits of torture. Its more of an abuse. There is now strong
evidence that the United States itself has engaged in torture and condoned its
use by others as part of its war against terrorism. Photographs of Iraqi prisoners
at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, hooded, naked, attached to wires, attacked
by dogs, forced to simulate sex acts and assume humiliating and painful
postitions, and presided over by smiling U.S. military personnel have shocked
the world. Other incidents of abuse and even murder have come to light and
received new attention.

AN INDEPENDENT VIEW:

Torture is basically an act which is implemented when we have to take out

some information e.g. from the criminals, when we have to make other person
leak the information for any act which is prohibited in the society and so on.

CONCLUSION:

I support torture when it’s used for some advantageous purpose. But not the
kind of torture that we see in Iraq etc. the torture that is appropriate in
appropriate situations.
PACIFISM:
Pacifism is a term, derived from the Latin word for peacemaking, that has been
applied to a spectrum of positions covering nearly all attitudes toward war. On
one extreme pacifist designates any person who desires peace, thus describing
those who wage war as much as those who refuse participation in war. On the
other extreme pacifism also describes renunciation of force and coercion in all
forms.

PROPONENTS VIEW:
Generally pacifism is thought to be a principled rejection of war and killing as
morally wrong. Thus some who called themselves “pacifists” (for example,
during the First World War) supported war as a suitable means toward peace.
And Richard Nixon once called himself a pacifist, even as he continued to
support the Vietnam War. This perverse use of the idea of pacifism is
connected to the way in which a term like “pacification” can be employed in
military usage to describe a violent process of suppressing violence, as when an
enemy territory is “pacified” by killing or disabling the enemy. While George
Orwell and others have complained about such euphemistic descriptions of
violence, the just war tradition does hold that war can be a suitable means to
bring about peace.

A POINT OF VIEW OPPOSITE TO THE PROPONENT:

Pacifists commonly respond to this by pointing out that, while true pacifism
may not be an ideal which we can attain, nevertheless the articulation of this
ideal will help move us closer to it. Even if we never actually get there, we are
better off closer than further away. Moreover, pacifists can argue that
nonviolent efforts have proven effective for securing political change (Indian
Independence, Civil Rights in America) while violent efforts often don't
(Palestinians, Chechins).

INDEPENDENT VIEW:
In simple words, pacifism is the end to violence and it says that we should
settle our disputes no matter how big they are with mutual discussions.

CONCLUSION:

I consider pacifism the best option when it yields out a favorable result. At
least it sets an example and stops violence.
HOLOCAUST:
The Holocaust (from the Greek word holos, "completely" and kaustos, "burnt"),
also known as Ha-Shoah (Hebrew), Churben (Yiddish), is the term generally
used to describe the killing of approximately six million European Jews during
World War II, as part of a program of deliberate extermination planned and
executed by the National Socialist regime in Germany led by Adolf Hitler.

PROPONENTS VIEW:
Christian leaders from a wide spectrum of traditions and denominations are
expressing their full support for a brand new initiative to educate Europeans
about the tragic realities of the Holocaust and what the implications are for
today. The campaign “learn from history” is initiated by the European Coalition
for Israel in collaboration with a broad group of Christians leaders ranging from
the charismatic movement to representatives from the Catholic church as well
the Dutch reformed church.

A POINT OF VIEW OPPOSITE TO THE PROPONENT:

Holocaust denial is illegal in a number of European countries. Many countries
also have broader laws against libel or inciting racial hatred, as do a number of
countries that do not specifically have laws against Holocaust denial, such as
Canada and the United Kingdom. The first Holocaust deniers were the Nazis
themselves. Historians have documented evidence that Heinrich Himmler
instructed his camp commandants to destroy records, crematoria and other
signs of mass extermination, as Germany's defeat became imminent and the
Nazi leaders realized they would most likely be captured and brought to trial.
Following the end of World War II, many of the former leaders of the SS left
Germany and began using their propaganda skills to defend their actions (or,
their critics contended, to rewrite history). Denial materials began to appear
shortly after the war.

INDEPENDENT VIEW:
Holocaust is the term generally used to describe the killing of approximately six
million European Jews during World War II, as part of a program of deliberate
extermination planned and executed by the National Socialist regime in
Germany led by Adolf Hitler.

CONCLUSION:

I do not favor holocaust because it gives birth to social evils such as

discrimination in race,
