Chapter2: What Is Cell

Unicellular Organisms And Multicellular Organism

Instruction: Read the text carefully. Identify all organisms and classify them into
unicellular organisms and multicellular organisms.

I am a scientist. One day, as I walk around a park, I wonder about the organism that
live with human on earth. So I pack my back with microscope because I want to find the
organism that cannot be seen by naked eyes. I list the place that I should go to do my
research. These places are wet places such as seas, ponds, drains, rivers and moist soil.
First, I check the drains behind my house. I take a drop of water and put it under
microscope. In this drain, I find a unicellular organism known as Amoeba. Then I go to
nearby pond. I take the sample and observe it using microscope. I find another unicellular
organism. It is Euglena. Then I walk further into a jungle. On my way, I see stagnant
water. In this water, I find Chlamydomonas. It is a unicellular organism. In the jungle, I
find many multicellular organisms. I can see trees, grass, birds and monkeys. I keep
walking in the jungle until I find a river. I take the moist soil at the bank river and
observe it under microscope. I find Paramecium. It is a unicellular organism. Besides, I
also find another unicellular organism in the moist soil. It is Pleurococcus. The sun shine
very bright and the weather are too hot. I decide to swim in the river. While I swimming,
I notice that there is something in the river. So I take it and observe it by using
microscope. It is amazing because the river also is a habitat for organism. In this river, I
find new tiny organism. It is a multicellular organism. I recognized it as Hydra. Then, I
dive to bottom of the river. I take another sample. In this sample, I find another
multicellular organism. It is spirogyra. In the evening, I walk to return to home. At home,
I am hungry. So I make some bread by using a recipe. To make this bread, I need flour,
water, sugar and yeast. I do not know what about yeast. So I observe it under microscope.
I find that it is unicellular organism. After my bread has cooked, I eat some of the bread. I
leave the not eaten bread on the table. After a few days, I found a dark spot on my bread.
When I observe the black spot, it is actually a Mucor. It is a multicelular organism. Then,
I analyse my findings. Our earth is occupied by human and other organisms. There are
varieties of organisms. Some are unicellular and some are multicellular. Unicellular
organisms are very tiny. Meanwhile, multicellular organism can either be very tiny or as
big as human.
