3RD SPEAKER -OPPOSITION

Thank you miss speaker. A very good morning to the most distinguished
adjudicators, meticulous timekeeper, my most worthy opponents and members of
the floor. I will continue our case in a minute, but before that there are some things
that need to be addressed. Allow me, as the 3 rd speaker of the opposition team to
rebut all the misinterpret and unconvincing arguments put forward by the
government team.

My worthy opponents,
It is undeniable, that you need EQ in life, but, with just EQ and not IQ, how
can you get a good job and be successful in life? Furthermore, let us take our
examination system for example. It focuses more on IQ and not EQ. Can you enroll
in a university with EQ only? Can you get good job with EQ only? We cannot depend
solely on EQ, my wise opponents. As you can see, how can you be a doctor if you
dont have IQ? You might kill the patient. How can you be a teacher if you do not
have IQ? How can you be a businessman if you dont have IQ? IQ is important to
get us to qualify for anything that we want to do in life, be in school or in life. You
mentioned about how EQ determines how successful one is and not IQ. Now let me
give you a scenario that is closest to us. Let say you are going to sit for SPM few
months from now and because you claim that you have high EQ, you decide that
you do not have to study and solely depend on your EQ. Do you think you will be
able to get a good result? I dont think so. Unless you are gifted with high IQ or in
other word, you are born genius. Again, it shows that IQ is much more important in
determining how successful you are and not EQ.
Let me ask you, my worthy opponents. Who would want to hire a person with
no degree? In this materialistic world nowadays, people look at your education

qualification first more than anything. It is the first thing that opens their eyes to
you and what you might be capable of. What they want is IQ. Why? Simple, because
people with IQ can think fast and solve problems in just a glimpse. I would like to
make clear that EQ can be learned, implemented and improved upon at any age,
according to Daniel Goleman. In fact, studies show our EQ increases as we get older
unlike IQ which is pretty much established at birth.So, think wisely, my wise
opponents. Not everyone is gifted with high IQ which makes it easier to distinguish a
successful person from the others.
In school, we are given a lot of homework by the teachers. But, we still have
time to study. Why? Because we have IQ. People with IQ consume less time to do
homework. The remaining time, they can do other things. That is why people with
IQ are so good in managing their time. Alan Kazdin, a professor of psychology and
director of The Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic of Yale University said that
the best thing IQ measure is the ability to do well in school. Plus, a person with IQ is
a role model for other students in the school. Well, who doesnt want the smartest
student in school? They are not just smart; people adore and admire them too. The
teachers love him/her. Some students might want them to be their special someone.
At the same time, he/she becomes peoples inspiration. Parents will send their
children to tuition center so that their children can enter a high prestige school.
Plus, with IQ, you can get scholarship easily. People will come to you. Sponsors such
as PETRONAS and JPA are looking for you. As a result, you can have a bright future.
No need to worry about finding jobs. Sometimes, it is the job that looks for you. For
example, Nur Amalina, a student who became a sensation after getting 17A1 result
in SPM 2005, was offered a scholarship from Bank Negara to study overseas. So,
are you still doubting what IQ can do?
There is no doubt that people with IQ can be successful. They have
individualistic character which makes them think only about themselves, about their
future. What is good about having individualistic character? Well, people with
individualistic character will focus more on their success, so they have no time to
think about things that are not related to their studies. So, when will a successful
person be born? Thus, this shows that with IQ, a person can be successful, right?
People with IQ also think independently. They always think for solution. For example,
if there are any problems, they keep thinking and keep on improving from their
mistakes. Just like what Thomas Edison said when he is having problems with his
invention, I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. People with
IQ also always come up with new ideas and formulas. For instance, Blaise Pascal,
who invented the Pascals Principle. Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, he discovered X-ray,
and people are still using X-ray until now. Without x-ray, you cant imagine what
would happen to our medical world. If you think IQ is just about theoretical, you are
wrong. Bobby Fischer, a chess legend, with an IQ of 187, born in 1943 and died in
2008 and people still remember him as the best chess player all time. Besides
success, people with IQ are also remembered by the society because of what they

have contributed. Neils Bohr, who introduced the structures of an atom, he is still
remembered, and his idea, we learn in Chemistry. Archimedes, well-known for his
Archimedess Principle, we learn it also in Physics. Famous Pythagoras for his
Pythagoras Theorem since Greek civilization is still being used till now. This shows
that IQ helps a lot in our history as to the first creation of everything sparks from the
ability of the creator or inventor to think of it, all thanks to his/her high IQ. So, my
dear opponents, doesnt IQ give so much benefits to the society? Doesnt this show
that IQ determines how successful a person becomes? My worthy opponents, I know
all of you agree with us deep down inside.

all uncertainties that IQ not EQ that determines how successful a person becomes.
