or contact the rectory. We are limited to only one intention per Mass. Currently, the 2010 book is almost full, and we
have now opened the 2011 book.

Please note that, due to high volume of requests for Mass intentions here at Christ the King, there is a limit of three in-
tention requests per quarter per person. This is to ensure the availability to our parishioners. Also, although 2010 dates
have already been reserved, Mass intentions can be sent to the diocese for retired priests and religious order priests to
celebrate the Mass. Contact the rectory for more information.

How to Receive the Eucharist,

I would like to remind people to indicate clearly how they wish to
receive. Sometimes communicants come up with their hands
out and their mouths open, and the priest doesn’t know which
way to give the Host. How does this person wish to receive? If
you indicate clearly, it’s easier. If you’re going to receive in the
hand, be clear about where the Host should be placed so that it
doesn’t accidentally fall. By the way, if it should fall on the floor,
indicate it to the priest. Sometimes the priest or extraordinary
minister doesn’t see it...
Let me sum up by saying the two main dispositions that we
need — faith and devotion. Remember that scene, in the Fourth
Gospel, that occurs after the Resurrection. The disciples are out
fishing, and the boats are coming toward the shore. Peter, as
usual, is completely immersed in what he is doing; he’s got his
outer clothes off so he can work more easily. The beloved disci-
ple sees someone standing on the shore and says to Peter, “It is
the Lord.” Peter jumps into the water.
That disposition of John, “It is the Lord” — that’s what our faith
demands. It is the Lord that we are worshiping. It is the Lord that
we are receiving into ourselves. It is the Lord who is giving us in
the Eucharist a special way to participate in divine life. It is the
Lord who is sanctifying us. That should be the overwhelming
disposition with which we approach Holy Communion: “It is the
Lord!”

Spring Chore Days

Spring Chore Days Are Here (Again)… Helping seniors in
your Community… Please come out and lend a hand. We
will meet at Christ The King parking lot at 9:00am.
Special Note: I will need a list to know how many volun-
teers we will have beforehand, so we have an idea how

Are You Listed?
Recently I went to Good Samaritan Hospital for a routine
procedure in the X-Ray department. After filling out the
appropriate paperwork, the young lady asked me check
the information the hospital had in my file. I did, and boy
was I surprised!
Not only was I not listed as parishioner of Christ the King,
of which I have been registered as a parishioner for four-
teen years, under religion were the words “not stated”.
Yikes! Imagine my surprise! If it can happen to a Deacon
it can happen to you!
Please, if you are going in for a procedure at any facility,
ask to check your records to correct any errors they may
contain. In order to receive the Sacraments in the hospi-
tal, you have to either notify the parish or the facility, I rec-
ommend both.

lic Women elected the following women as officers for the
2010-2011 term:

recipients of the 2010 Good Egg Awards – Ed Lay and Ed
Schumann
During the coming months, a new board will be formed
and plans will be made for next year’s activities.
The current board wishes to thank Father Peter and par-
ish staff for their direction, support and kindness. We also
are grateful to members of the parish for helping to sup-
port our many activities and projects. It made a differ-

We will be building the Kingdom and helping the people of
Birmingham, Alabama through Group Workcamps. We
will be doing home repair which could include: interior and
exterior painting, building and repairing porches, building
wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, or any
other type of home repair as needed.
Typically we work with teens from across the country at a
worksite so that we can get to know the people we are
working for. All of this is part of Building the Kingdom.
