An Alternative Narrative on Varna System & Brahmamism

The way our history writers, who didn't have enough exposure to Vedic age of
history, presented Varna, discussion on Varna has become a taboo that nobody
dares to discuss, a strong yet ill informed perception is built that Varna system
oppressed Shudras, which is not true in it's origin in Vedic age.
Origin of Varna system comes for the first time in Rigvedas purush shukta
( 10.90.12) in a metaphoric way wherein its said that Brahmin is born out of mouth,
Kshatriya is born out of arms, vaishya is brorn out of thighs and shudra is out of feet
of mythical pusush, the mantra is reproduced below.
: :

brhmao 'sya mukham sd bh rjanya kta | r tad asya yad vaiya padbhy dro ajyata

A corroboration to varna system comes from Shri Krishan in his Geeta ( 4.14)
wherein Shri Krishna said that Varna system is created by he the almighty in roder
to divide the society according to karma and inherent qualities.
Its deliberate mis-interpretation of Purush Shukta of Rigveda wherein it's said that
Shudras were born of feet of mythological Personified Purusha under
the preconception that feet are of lower esteem or value in one's body and thereby
a script of conflict is written in British age scholars and modern social scientists.
The problem has been in minds of those social scientists and thinkers who had such
illogical thoughts, They didn't know that Vedic tradition provides equal esteem to
every organ of human body. Unlike other cultures, in Vedic civilization, human body
is regarded as pious home of the 'Atman' and during rituals every organ is
remembered with honor along with Devata responsible for taking care of functions
of that organ. we remember our head, eye, stomach, reproductive organs, hands
and feet.
We have many mantradrashta Rishi in Rigveda who were born to meds working in
royal families, can cite a name 'Gritsamada' but they are regarded with no
difference to other rishis, 'Gritsamada' rather has more contributions to his credit in
Rigveda.
Indian identity is described by our ancient tradition of Feet Worship called 'Pada
Sevanam', 'Pada Puja', 'Pada Archanam', 'Pada Vandanam', Pada Namaskar', 'Pada
Abhishek' and others. Though Jesus had washed the feet of his disciples, it has not
become a true Christian tradition. Pope Francis has been washing feet to show his
sense of humility but not with an attitude of worship which combines humility and
devotion. In Indian tradition, apart from Gods and Goddesses, a variety of people
including parents, teachers, guests, officials, and elders are formally greeted by
bending and touching their feet. On all happy occasions like marriage, people seek
blessings of others by showing respect to feet.

As a student, we all might be remembeting touching the feet of teachers without

any thought about the teacher's caste. So also, art teachers, dance teachers, and
music teachers are treated with respect and by saluting their feet. The Indian
tradition of Bhakti or Devotion demands surrender and people always surrender by
touching the feet of the person to whom they surrender. Indian kings and rulers
followed the same rule and they seek refuge or protection of a more powerful entity
by bending their necks and touching feet. This traditional value is very powerful and
we cannot harm any person if that person merely touches feet as a sign for asking
protection. His request cannot be refused and forgiveness is always granted. No
brahmin receives feet worship because of his caste. He gets respect if he performs
services that people desire for gaining some benefit. Poet Valmiki mentions the
importance of Feet Worship and Prince Ram observed it without fail.

In all four Vedas - shilpa and shilpis are glorified, artisans are appreciated in
mantras, In Yajurveda we have specific mantra that includes all Varnas in same row
and propitiates Gods for happiness and wellness of all four Varnas.
As per studies I undertook, I think the origin of dis-respect among Varnas started in
Pre-Baudha period and established into society by the time HarshaVardhan but it
never took form of denial of human rights or essentials of life or objection to
opportunity to compete in market place. Further distance and degradation
happened during medieval period when India was divided in small states out of
Rajput feudalism. The priestly class of Brahmins aligned with kings who took next
available position in society by governance mechanism applied those days,
however, inner strata of society was still not full controlled by such horrible
feudalism, you shall find many Brahmins making Shudras their pupil and
propagating spiritual knowledge and this was the period economy of India was still
in hands of what is known today 'OBC' class.
If you survey, you shall find that majority of India's land mass is in possession of
OBC, for a ready reckoner here are the names of casts ( with some difference in
Varnas ) - Jat, Gujjar, Patel, Patidar, Kurmi, Sahu, Yadava, Raj Gonda, Yadavs and in
hands of some other casts - Bhumihar, Kayastha etc.
The possession of wealth has played a definite role in current fabric of society that
is otherwise seen with disgust, pls note - Joshi in Uttaranchal and Himanchal
Pradesh region as Brahmins but in Nepal region as Kshatriyas, The Kaushiks are
high class Brahmins in Haryana and Delhi but are part of OBC, namely 'Kurmi' class
in Chhatisgarh. Chauhans are Kshatriyas in Uttarprdesh but also OBC in Madhya
Pradesh.
Brahmins when forgot Vedas and confined themselves to Purans and Bhgawats
wisdom, turned reluctant in possessing assets and producing wealth and as
traditional centers of educations were declined in medieval period they remained
dependent on gifts and grants or by doing low jobs in royal palaces or by astrology
and ritual performances, Brahmins are a very poor community but influential as
they still gave value to education.

During Islamic slavery, conversion was controlled as Brahmins had memory that
once in Vedic period India had unmatched glory, although they were not carrying
legacy of Vedas, but remembered glory, same is true today, Brahmins are majorly
ignorant of Vedas but for the first time in these email chains, I saw some of them
oppose Vedas too. Very Sad !
Rajgondas are a special class, they are par of ST in constitution but they have
marital relationship with some Kshatriyas. A rajgonda family owns 500 Acrs to 1000
Acrs of lands, some even 2000 Acres.
Merit has not been as ignored in India as its' ignored these days under the
protection given to castism in constitution. One must be cognizant of Shivaji's
coronation, Rani Durgavati's coronation, epoch making Chandragupta's coronation.
The problems we found in India during British time, as some kind of untouchability
was nurtured by Priestly class who was powered by their closeness to local rulers
but that was not approved by scholarly Brahmin class who didn't have such
patronages and above all, when entire nation was under slavery, was becoming
poor by exploitation of British, who can be said to have better life those days.
This is the reason, History needs to be reviewed.
