ASTM A500

and ASTM A252

Round Tubing

Independence Tube began producing square and rectangular

products to ASTM specifications in 1972. Our reputation for
quality and an on-time delivery record second to none in the
industry made us one of the premier tube suppliers in North
America. That same dedication and commitment to producing
only the finest tube products led to our introduction of rounds,
at our Chicago Division, in 2008. Continuing to listen to customer
feedback, we quickly grew this new product line into one of the
most extensive and successful in the industry. Independence
Tube is now manufacturing rounds at all three Divisions: Chicago
and Marseilles, Illinois and Decatur, Alabama. Our size range
extends from 1.66" OD through 16" OD.
Independence Tube has the capability to produce rounds to
ASTM A500 and ASTM A252 specifications. ITC50 Pipe Size
tubing has tremendous advantages over A53 pipe.

ITC50
Independence Tube has been producing
square and rectangular products for forty years.
Our experience with these products has led
to the creation of our round and pipe size line,
including ITC50.
Independence Tubes A500 Rounds are
available from stock in either 21' or 42' stock
lengths. In addition, Independence Tube can
band saw cut to length or offer custom lengths
off of mill rollings. Our new round sizes are a
perfect compliment to our complete square
and rectangular A500 size range (2" SQ X 1/8"
through 12" SQ x 5/8").
When it comes to the versatility of designing with
tube and pipe products, designers, architects,
and engineers specify Independence Tube.

A500 Pipe Size vs. A53 Pipe

More and more manufacturers and fabricators
are switching from ASTM A53 Pipe to ASTM
A500 Pipe Size tubing.
Independence Tubes ITC50 Pipe Size tubing
is an excellent alternative for A53 pipe for
structural applications that do not require
hydrostatic testing.
The advantages of ITC50 Pipe Size tubing over
A53 pipe are:
Higher strength to weight ratio
Closer outside diameter, wall and
straightness tolerances
Superior finishno lacquer coating
Superior weldability
Easier fabrication
Custom lengths from 20' to 75'
(Varies by size)
Reliable/on-time rolling cycles

All of which equals cost savings

ASTM A252
Pipe Piling may be a commodity, but now Independence
Tube is producing this product with the sizes, short rolling
cycles, and service our customers have come to expect.
Independence Tube is now manufacturing ERW Pipe Piling
to ASTM A252 in Grades 1, 2, and 3. Pipe Piling is produced
from 6.625" O.D. to 16" O.D. in walls from .188" to .625"
up to 78 feet long. High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA), Copper
Bearing (CU) and other steel grades are also available.
The most popular Pipe Piling sizes of 10.750" OD and
12.750" OD are produced in our Decatur, Alabama and
Marseilles, Illinois locations on a 4 week production cycle.
Our 14" OD and 16" OD pipe piling sizes are produced in
Decatur only on an 8 week rolling cycle.
When it comes to the versatility of designing with tube and
pipe products, designers, architects, and engineers specify
Independence Tube. We have expanded our product line
to expand your possibilities.

Applies to specified wall thicknesses (t) equal to or greater than 0.120 in. [3.05 mm]. For lighter specified wall thicknesses, the
minimum elongation values shall be calculated by the formula: percent elongation in 2 in. [50 mm] = 56t + 17.5, rounded to
the nearest percent. For A500M use the following formula: 2.2t + 17.5, rounded to the nearest percent.

Applies to specified wall thicknesses (t) equal to or greater than 0.180 in. [4.57 mm]. For lighter specified wall thicknesses, the
minimum elongation values shall be calculated by the formula: percent elongation in 2 in. [50 mm] = 61t + 12, rounded to the
nearest percent. For A500M use the following formula: 2.4t + 12, rounded to the nearest percent.

Applies to specified wall thicknesses (t) equal to or greater than 0.120 in. [3.05 mm]. For lighter specified wall thicknesses, the
minimum elongation values shall be by agreement with the manufacturer.

The minimum elongation values specified apply only to the tests performed prior to shipment of the tubing.
