Each month since September, weve welcomed new BOSC Members to our monthly Socials and within our
Activity Groups. Participation in some areas has doubled, and the enthusiasm is contagious. Its been pretty
exciting to see this group continue to grow and evolve.
I share all this to ask each of you two questions: Are you glad you joined BOSC? Would you like to play a
larger part in making BOSC all it can be for our Barksdale community?
So heres the thing: Although we have 3 months of FUN & EXCITING BOSC events left this year, were
beginning to plan for BOSC next year. We want the energy to continue, and while we want the membership to
grow, we also want BOSC to continue to meet the hopes & needs of its membership. To do that, we need you!
We need you to continue to tell this years Board how BOSC can be better. And we want some of you to
consider becoming BOSC Board Members for next year.
So if youve thought about playing a larger part in making BOSC the best it can be, this is your invitation to be
on the BOSC Board. And before you ignore me, here are a few fast facts for you to think about:
* The next BOSC Board Year runs from June 1 through June 1, 2017.
* The BOSC Executive Board is voted on by the Membership. The Executive Board includes:
President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Treasurer.
* Other Board Positions currently include: Social Coordinator, Hail & Farewell, Volunteer
Coordinator, Charitable, Newsletter, Historian, Scholarship Coordinator, Publicity, Membership,
Ways & Means, and Reservations.
There are Board positions to fit various comfort levels, schedules, & interests: whether youve been on an OSC
Board or not; whether you work full-time, part-time, or not at all; whether youre a mother of toddlers,
teenagers, or not a mom; and whether you like planning parties or counting pennies!
If you think you might be interested in serving on the BOSC Board for next year, see which job might interest
you and either talk with the person currently in that position, or talk to me.
And just to be clear: being a BOSC member doesnt mean you have to be on the Board. It isnt for everyone
it may not fit your schedule or your interests, and that is 100% okay! (If everyone was on the Board, it would
be a very LONG meeting!)
Regardless, this year aint over yet! So be sure to read through this months newsletter so you know whats
coming up including the Shamrock Shuffle on March 5th and this months social on March 15th! Grab a
friend and dont miss the fun.
As always, thanks for being part of BOSC were a better group because YOU are a member.
Much Love,
Carri

End of Year Project Judging Position
Brief Description: STARBASE 2.0 is seeking individuals to judge student projects for our End-of-Year Design Challenge
for 6th and 7th grade participants. STARBASE 2.0 is an afterschool STEM club in which students collaborate with peers
and mentors in engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities. We currently are partnered
with three (3) local Bossier Parish middle schools with 150 students enrolled. 6th grade students will compete to build
a paddle boat with a manufactured paddle wheel using PTC/Creo CAD software. Scoring criteria will be based on four
(4) categories that include: design specifications, distance, payload capacity, and innovation. 7th grade students will
construct a custom designed C02 car by streamlining a wooden car body and use PTC/Creo to manufacture and design
a slot car to be printed from a 3D printer. Students will race against one another in an elimination bracket using both
designs. Scoring criteria will be based on two (2) categories that include: racing results and innovation. On the day of
the competition, we will give you the scoring rubric and criteria to judge each student project. Competition results will
be announced at our End of Year Celebration on the evening of May 9th at Bossier Parish Community College.
Dates: April 26th- Cope Middle School 2:30-4:15pm
April 27th- Elm Grove Middle School 2:30-4:15pm
April 28th - Rusheon Middle School 1:27-3:10pm
Further details regarding the judging rubric and observation instructions will be provided if you are interested in
partnering with us.
