Organization Profile
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Medical Science Research and Human Resources
is a reputed non-profit organization founded under guidance of Mr. Nitin Gadkari (Chairman)
in 2012 with a mission to make a healthy Nagpur city.
There are three different regions on which the institute is currently working on.
Medical Services: The organization provides medical service to needy and poor people
free of cost by following means
o Antyodaya Dharmarth Dawakhana (Dispensaries)
o Sickle cell centre
o Medical Health camp
We are with you initiative by the institute is for people with disability. The institute
provides essential community support, employment and training services to enhance
the lives of people with a disability each year free of cost.
The institute using E-jagruti is trying to connect every section of the society with all
those things which are provided by government for them by training the people how to
use internet for tasks like payment of bills, pan card, banking etc. this initiative is still
in the preliminary stage.
Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank is the partner for the camp activities which organizes blood
donation camp along with free medical camps.

Assessment Operation Focus

Wok Process
1. Product and Process Design
1.1. Design Concepts: As an organization their main aim is to cover all the slums of
Nagpur, but places where medical camps are organized on daily basis are not just
considered based on whether it is a slum or people are needy but there are instances
like the camp in Itwari which is one of well-established area in Nagpur. Organization
is not keen to use technology and are still on paper pen.
1.2. Product and Process Requirement: The financial aspect which is the key requirement
is more or less fixed(amount) as it is funded, the processes like medical camp,
dispensaries are the part of their daily schedule but other functionaries like e-jagruti
are still in their early days.
2. Process Management
2.1. Process Implementation: The venue of the camp is decided well in advance but not
much effort from the organization is made to visit or do an unofficial survey, due to
which we cant tell how much the numbers which organization projects at the end of
the day are giving the correct data.
2.2. Support Process: The main support area of the organisation are the funding and the
employees and they are well deployed approach but varies sometimes due to delay in
funding or absenteeism of employees
2.3. Product and Process Improvement: No conscious effort is made by the management
or employees to measure the process for improvement.

Operational Effectiveness
1. Cost Control: No measures or methods deployed to check on productivity, cycle-time, and
effectiveness of the process or employees. Camp activities are between 10:00 AM - 12:30
PM irrespective of number of people attended whether it will be 100 or 150 or 250 that
doesnt matter due to which the measure of effectiveness is a tedious task.
2. Supply Chain Management: As long as they are funded they dont face problem of
supply, so in that regard they are managing well. There may arise conflict of interest when
considering suppliers and partners as few of them are associated with some of the top level
employees working in the organization due to which measure of their (suppliers and
partners) performance and effectiveness cannot be state accurately.
3. Safety and Emergency: There is no plan from the organization in case the funding stops
and that could derail operation and day to day work as medicines, employees salaries and
every single rupee expense is being funded.
4. Innovation Management: Not much effort is being made in innovating the process or
implementing of new strategies or plans. There are opportunities which are being not used
(including options for full scale medical department).

Operation Focus (Total Evaluated Points)

Desired Benchmark
1. Slums: As the goal set by the organization to cover all the slums of Nagpur city which is
around 5500 in Nagpur but they lack way behind and have covered about 2500 of them
only. It should take the organization about 3-4 years to reach the 5500 mark if it is managed
in the way it is intended.
2. Effectiveness: The organization is focused on providing free medical benefits to the needy
people, we must compare their effectiveness with a government organization (hospitals)
and how much the people are getting benefits out of the initiative. People are seen visiting
clinics on regular basis and instances of disappointment from patients were seen in the
camps.

3. Blood donation: On an average day there are around 8-10 blood donations but that number
is as high as 50 during the similar camp and thus the number is required to go up.
4. Cost Control: Paper, printing cost, employees salaries are few of the costs which goes
unchecked

Strategy
1.

2.

For better effectiveness organization should incorporate with well-trained physicians,

more diversified medicines that will help the patient more than just proving generic drugs.
It will take some time but if started now than based on the number of patients daily (300
on an average) organization can expect to see better response from patients by next time
the camp is organized in the same area (which is around 6 months as told by the camp
manager).
Resources are not utilized to the full as lot of slack time available, printing costs need to
be checked by keeping a cap on number of copies printed for every camp, looking for more
cheap options in Nagpur that just printing in house because since the number of copies
printed on daily basis is not that significant that printing in house will reduce the cost.
