2 Electrons emitted with negligible speed from an electron gun are accelerated
through a potential difference V along the X-axis. These electrons emerge
from a narrow hole into a uniform magnetic field B directed along this
axis. However, some of the electrons emerging from the hole make slightly
divergent angles as shown in figure. Show that these paraxial electrons are
refocused on the X-axis at a distance

3 A ring of mass m and radius r is rotated in magnetic field B which is perpendicular to the
plane of the loop with constant angular velocity 0. Find the net ampere force on the ring
and the tension developed in the ring if there is a current i in the ring, current and
rotation both are clockwise.

4 Find the current density as a function of distance r from the axis of a radially symmetrical parallel stream of electrons if the
magnetic induction inside the stream varies as B = br, where b and are positive constants.

5 Inside a long straight uniform wire of round cross section there is a long round cylindrical cavity whose axis is parallel to the
axis of the wire and is placed from the latter by a distance I. A direct current of density j flows along the wire. Find the magnetic
induction inside the cavity. Consider, in particular, the case I = 0.
6 Figure shows a wooden cylinder with a mass m of 0.25 kg, a radius R, and a length l of 0.1 meter
with N equal to ten turns of wire wrapped around it longitudinally, so that the plane of the wire
loop contains the axis of the cylinder. What is the least current through the loop that will
prevent the cylinder form rolling down an inclined plane whose surface is inclined at angle q to
the horizontal, in the presence of a vertical field of magnetic induction 0.5 weber/meter2, if the
plane of the windings is parallel to the inclined plane ?

7 A particle of mass 1026 kg and charge +ve travelling with a velocity 1.28 106m/s in the +x direction enters a region in which
a uniform electric field E and a uniform magnetic field of induction B are present such that Ex = Ey = 0 and Ez = 102.4 kV/m and Bx
= Bz = 0, By = 0.08T. The particle enters this region at the origin at time t = 0. Determine the location x, y and z coordinates of
the particle at t = 5s. If the electric field is switched off at this instant, what will be the position of the particle at t =7.45 10

8 A thin band of width l has been wound into this shape of a pipe of radius R. A
current l flows along the pipe and is evenly distributed through its width (the
direction of the current is shown in figure). Determine the magnitude of the
magnetic induction at an arbitrary point A1 on the pipe's axis. The current enters
edge AB & circulating circumferentially comes out from CD.

9 A long, straight wire of radius r carries a current i and is placed horizontally in a uniform magnetic field B point vertically
upward. The current is uniformly distributed over its crosssection. (a) At what points will the resultant magnetic field have
maximum magnitude ? (b)What will be the minimum magnitude of the resultant magnetic field ?
10 A long, straight wire carries a current i. A particle having a positive charge q and mass m, kept at a distance x0 from the wire
is projected towards it with a speed . Find the minimum separation between the wire and the particle.
