SECTION 1: HERMENEUTICA. RULES OF INTERPRETATION
OF SCRIPTURE. BY E. LUND / P.C. NELSON
PROLOGUE
A book of this nature is a great need in speaking countries
Castilian. For years the Kirst edition sold out and could not meet demand
of the many who asked. After it was published in "Journal Homiletics," but
needed two volumes of this publication to bring together all the work and therefore
has
seen the need to publish in book form.
Its author, Dr. Lund, can be considered the most proliKic and prestigious master
Bible studies in the Spanish language, and his name is already well known for a long
time
by scholarship and value of their productions. The same Melndez Pelayo qualiKies
for
philologist, and that when Dr. Lund dominated, more of the languages in which they
wrote
Bible, six or seven European modern languages; but later, having undertaken work
missionary in the Philippines, has cultivated a number of languages and dialects of
that
archipelago, having translated the entire Bible to panayano and New Testaments to
dialects Cebu and Samar.
Both "Help Preacher" as said before "Journal Homiletics" and its many
tracts, pamphlets, articles, etc., show the energy and activity of its author,
as well as competence in Bible study, and also their works avaloran the strictest
Kidelity to the sacred text and purity of the doctrines exposed.

We hope that this time is a real blessing for all who read, whether
preachers and evangelists or simply Christians, lovers of Bible study.
CHAPTER 1: THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDY
1. One of the Kirst science the preacher must know is certainly the
hermeneutics. But how many preachers know that not know her name.
What, then, hermeneutics? The art of interpreting texts, "replies the
Dictionary . But hermeneutics (Greek hermenevein, interpret), which
we'll take care forms part of exegetical theology, or whatever it is
the correct understanding and interpretation of biblical scriptures.
2. Peter himself admits, speaking of these Scriptures, that among New
Testament "are some things hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable
wrest, as they do the other Scriptures (the Old) for self-destruction
themselves. "And for more misfortune and calamity, when these unlearned in
hermeneutical skills are presented as learned, twisting Scripture to
prove their errors, carry with multitudes to perdition.
3. Such foolish, intended scholars, have been always heresiarchs or errorists.
From the false prophets of old to the Papists of the Christian era, and
eddstas and Russellites today. And any preacher who ignore this important
Science will often perplexed, and easily fall into the error of Balaam and
the gainsaying of Core. The main weapon of the soldier of Christ is Scripture, and if
know their value and ignores legitimate use, what soldier is?
4. No more persecuted by enemies book or book more tortured by friends,
the Bible, because the last thing to ignorance of all sound rule of interpretation. "
This, brethren, should not be. This godsend has not come to us for it
we use each to their own taste, mutilating, or twisting to
our downfall.
5. Let us remember, that these multifarious circumstances surrounding the
production wonderful book, exhibitor require its study detainee and
always "according to knowledge," according to hermeneutical principles.
a. Among the writers, "holy men of God, for example, who spoke
always moved by the Holy Spirit, "we Kind people as varied
category and education, such as priests, as Ezra; poets like
Solomon; prophets, which Isaiah; warriors, like David; shepherds, which Amos;
statesmen such as Daniel; sages, like Moses and Paul, and "Kishers, men
. unlearned, "like Peter and John Of these, about formulating laws, like Moses;
others write history, as Joshua; he writes psalms, like David; that one
Proverbs, Solomon; about prophecies, like Jeremiah; other biographies,
as the evangelists; other letters, like the apostles.

b. In terms of time, Moses lived 400 years before the siege of Troy and 300 years
before the ancient sages of Greece and Asia appear as Thales,
Pythagoras and Confucius, living John, the last biblical writer, some 1500 years
after Moses.
c. Regarding the place, were written in places as different as are the center
Asia, the sands of Arabia, the deserts of Judea, the porticoes of the Temple,
schools of the prophets at Bethel and Jericho in the palaces of Babylon in
the banks of Chebar and in the midst of Western civilization, taking the
Kigures, symbols and expressions of the practices, customs and scenes
offered as varied times and places. The biblical writers were
fully inspired, but not such that proves superKluous
warrant to search the Scriptures and to set aside consideration
such a variety of people, issues, times and places. These circumstances,
naturally. inKluenced but not certainly divine truth
expressed in biblical language, but the language itself, which is
occupies hermeneutics and how accurate is to understand the preacher,
interpreter or Bible expositor.
6. A brief general observation on this language, perhaps make us more
Pat still great need of knowledge of rules of sound interpretation
for proKitable scripture study. Certain learned, for example, have
always lived "incommunicado" about the biblical language are such language
shocking or inconsistent with his imaginary ideal of divine revelation, all the
superabundance of all kinds of words and Kigurative and symbolic expressions
that occur in Scripture. Some knowledge of hermeneutics, not only them
rid of this difKiculty, but perhaps persuade them that such language is divine by
excellence, as is the more scientiKic and literary.
7. A famous scientist used to insist that their scientiKic collaborators, in the chair,
embody the invisible because, he said, "only in this way can we conceive
existence of the invisible working over 10 visible. "But this idea of science
Modern is older than the Bible itself, as indeed was God
Kirst incarnated his invisible thoughts visible objects in the Universe,
thus revealing and illustrated himself. "Because what is known of God ... God
He has shown it; because it's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature,
You clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood by the things that
are
made. "(Rom. 1:20). Here, then, the visible universe, taken as gigantic
divine dictionary, overpopulated countless words that are visible objects,
living and dead, assets and liabilities, symbolic expressions of its invisible ideas.
Nothing more natural, then, that by inspiring Scripture use its own
Dictionary, taking us through the visible to the invisible, the incarnation of
thought, thought itself; by the objective to the subjective, the known and
familiar to the unknown and spiritual.
8. But this was not only natural, but absolutely necessary in view of our

current condition, because purely spiritual or abstract words,

little or nothing to say to the natural man. There is hardly a fact related to the mind
and spiritual truth that can communicate with proKit without resorting to
language born of visible objects. God has taken account of our condition.
It is not surprising, therefore, that to raise the possible conception of heaven
similarities worth of Kigures or scenes taken from the glorious land; or that
to raise the possible conception of his own person, is shell of what was the
"Crown" of creation, presentndosenos such as corporal, like us.
Needless to say, for the correct understanding of truth and symbol, and Kigure out
human need, meditation and deep study is required.
9. But it should be noted here that these Kigurative or symbolic expressions not
merely due to the nature of spiritual truth, to the wonderful relationship between
invisible and the visible, but also to the fact that such language is the most on
purpose,
be the most beautiful and expressive. Bring ideas to the mind far more vividly than
the
Description prosaic. Love and imagination recreates the couple who instructs the
soul and sets
truth in memory, delighting the heart. How misconception of what is proper,
cherish those who imagine that the Bible to be divine revelation, should be written
to
style of arithmetic or geometry! Did not mad God for wisdom, wisdom
the world? Let us remember, in summary, that the Scriptures, trying to topics
encompassing heaven and earth, time and eternity, the visible and the invisible, the
material and the
spiritual, were Written by people as varied nature, and in times so remote,
in countries as far between, and among people and so different customs and
as symbolic language that is easily understood that for the correct understanding
and understanding of all is we need to sum all the advice and assistance that we can
provide hermeneutics.
QUESTIONS
1. What is hermeneutics?
2. Where leads ignorance of it?
3. What should the errorists and heretics?
4. Why has given us the Scriptures?
5. What circumstances in the production of the same, studying necessitate
hermeneutics? By whom, about what, at what times and places were written?
How hermeneutical circumstances require such knowledge?
6. Why some scholars deny the divine inspiration of the Bible?
7. How scientiKically reveals invisible? What is the divine plan and proceed to
this case?
8. Why was it necessary to use Kigurative language in revelation from the point of
human terms?
9. By what other reason biblical language is most purpose for mankind?
10. In summary: Why is it important hermeneutic knowledge for

correct understanding of the Bible?

CHAPTER II: PROVISIONS REQUIRED FOR THE STUDY
OF THE SCRIPTURE
As to properly appreciate poetry is required to possess a special feeling
to the beautiful and poetic, and the study of philosophy requires a philosopher
spirit,
Also of great importance is a special provision for proKitable study
Scripture How can an irreverent person, light, impatient and reckless,
study and properly interpreting a book so profound and highly spiritual as is the
Bible? Necessarily, such a person will judge its content and color blind.
For the study and correct understanding of it, then you need at least one spirit
respectful and gentle lover of truth, patient in the study and provided with care.
1. respectful spirit is needed, because, for example, a child disrespectful, light and
frivolous, what case will the advice, warnings and words of his father? The Bible is
the
revelation of the Almighty, is the permanent miracle of sovereign grace of God,
is the divine code by which we will be judged on the supreme day, it is the Will
sealed with the blood of Christ. But with everything and with such wonder, man
irreverent will be found as blind to the sublime Swiss Alps, or worse; such
Once the fool who throws mud on an artistic monument admiring all
world. Here in what spirit, to reverent and humble, watched the
Word primitive Christians. "We thank God without ceasing-Paul says, -
when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received not
word of men, but as it is truly the word of God, which works in
you that believe. "Scripture Recbase so respectfully. And as he says
Jehovah: "A man will I look, even that is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles
at my
word. "Estdiese in this sense of humility and reverence, and discover,
as the Psalmist says "Wonders in his law." (The Thessalonians 2:13; lsa. 66: 2; Ps.
119: 18).
2. A teachable spirit for fruitful study and understanding is needed straight
Scripture, then, what will be learned in any study if docility missing? The
obstinate and stubborn person trying to study the Bible, will happen to Paul
the "natural man." "The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of
God, because you are crazy and can not understand them, because they have to
examine
spiritually. "SacriKice, therefore, concerns, opinions
preconceived ideas and favorite emprndase study in the spirit of docile
Maestro disciple and take Christ. It should be borne in mind that the
darkness and apparent contradiction could be found not in the Master
nor infallible textbook, but in the short range of the disciple. "If the Gospel
is veiled says the Apostle, among them that perish it is veiled in the
The god of this age has blinded the minds. "But the disciple humble and docile

that abandoning that teacher that blinds the minds, adopt Christ
Maestro, you will see and understand the truth, because God promises "route to the
humble
. by trial and teach them his way "(1 Cor 2:14; the 2nd Choir. 4: 3-6; Psalm
25: 9).
3. It must be a lover of truth, because who will take care of looking with interest and
collect what is not appreciated and esteem? De imperative to study the
Sacred Scripture is a heartfelt desire to know the truth. And Please also refer this
that man by nature has such a heart, but rather, a heart that
Klees the spiritual truth and embraces preferably the error. "The light came into the
world -
Jesus says of himself-but men loved darkness rather than light. "Even
more, he says, that "they hated," and here's why its growing blindness
Abomination pass persecution and cruciKixion of persecution
Maestro. "Leaving, well ..., delusion, says Peter, desire, as newborn
born, spiritual milk, that is the truth revealed. "The one with this desire the
looking, searching the Scriptures, also shall Kind it. Because at that "the Father of
give glory spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge "Yes". The secret
Jehovah is for those who fear him, and shew them his covenant "(John 3:19, 20.;
The Peter 2: 1,2: Efe. 1:17, Psalm 25:14)
4. Also you should be patient in the study, then, what will a person advancement
impatient, Kickle and cambiadiza in any work undertaken? For all
this virtue is needed. When Jesus said, "Search the Scriptures," uses a
word denoting the work of the miner who digs and stir the earth seeking to
diligence precious metal, engaged in a work that requires patience. The
Scripture necessarily be rich in content and inexhaustible, as
bowels of the earth. And therefore, certainly, God has willed that in some
parties were deep and hard penetration. Moreover, the fruit of patience
It is delightful and the more patience has been used to Kind a treasure, both
more appreciated and much more delightful place. Take therefore the study of the
Scriptures
much patience as the ordinary things of life. STAND also that
"Nobility" that characterized the Bereans, of which the Scripture says that "were
more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all
eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, "and you will see how this work bears the
prize in itself. "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey !; to
my mouth ... Thy testimonies are wonderful ... I rejoice at your word like that
Kinds great spoil ... Therefore I love thy commandments above gold, and more
very pure gold. "Such is the testimony of the Psalmist, who had made the Word
God their diligent study and persevering meditation, and may be the experience of
Wannabe suit. John 5:39; Acts 17:11; Psalm 119: 103, 129, 162.127).
5. proKitable scripture study is needed, at least, the wisdom of

know principiar reading so easy and proceed to what is most difKicult. It is easy
discover that the New Testament is simpler than the Old and the
Gospels are simpler than the apostolic letters. Even among the gospels, the
Kirst three are simpler than the fourth. Princpiese therefore study the three
Kirst. Then the third pudase read, for example, the book of Acts,
it is easier to understand that the Gospel according to John, whose content is very
deep. In a word, bear the wisdom of knowing move from the simple to the
difKicult to proKit and not corner the book incomprehensible, as they have
some reckless. Pudanse summarize all these provisions that trait
characteristic manifested by the disciples of Jesus in times of no
understand their words: They asked for the meaning, asked explanation,
read: "Apart explained everything to his disciples," "opened the way for
understand the scriptures. "His example, in this case, besides indicating the
precise conditions for proKitable scripture study gives us the rule
essential to be observed in this work: prayer, supplication. Never
should undertake the study without having asked the Master to open the
understanding and
clarify his Word. The source of all light and wisdom is God's promise and says: "If
any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God ... and it shall be given. "So
David did: "Open my eyes, says, teach me your statutes; give me understanding,
incline my heart to your testimonies. "And he could sing the result of his conduct,
saying: "How sweet are your words to my taste ... More than my teachers I
understood "please continue his example and the result will be identical (Matthew
13:36; Mark 4:... 1 O,
34; Luc. 24:45; Santo 1: 5.7; Psalm 119: 18, 26, 34, 37, 99.104).
QUESTIONS
1. Why proKitable scripture study requires a special spirit? And
Why do we need to be respectful?
2. Why a docile spirit to study is needed and correct understanding of the
Bible?
3. Why we need to love the truth searcher of the Scriptures and why
will remain fruitless who loves error?
4. Why requires patience proKitable Bible study?
7
5. Why wisdom or common sense is needed in the study of the Scriptures?
Should it be used as wisdom or common sense in what particular cases?
Note: - Carefully review this important lesson, not only in order to know
answer the questions. But with the higher purpose of acquiring the indicated
provisions
necessary for proKitable study of God's Word.
CHAPTER III: GENERAL OBSERVATIONS IN ORDER TO
BIBLICAL LANGUAGE
1. According to the testimony of Scripture itself, was divinely inspired "to
teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of
God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. "In a word,

Writing takes aim to make man "wise unto salvation through faith which is in
Christ Jesus "(2 Timothy 3: July 14-1)..
2. By the same token, we hope and expect, rightly, that the Bible speaks simply and
clarity.
3. Indeed, reading, for example, the New Testament, we Kind at every step in
its pages the great principles and Christian duties expressed in language
simple and clear, evident and palpable. Each page highlights the spirituality and
holiness of God, while spirituality and fervor that requires their worship. In
Everywhere we painted the fall and corruption of man and the consequent need
of repentance and conversion. Everywhere we proclaim remission
sin in the name of Christ and salvation by merit; eternal life by faith
in Jesus, and at the same time, eternal death from lack of faith in the Savior. Each
Step consist Christian duties in all circumstances of life and
bra promises of God's Spirit in the Kight against corruption and
sin. These truths shine like daylight, so that neither the reader more
surface and indifferent will stop closures.
4. But what happens? As in other books. In the simplest treated
elementary school, which deals only in earthly things, are, for example,
words and passages that do not understand, no explanation, uneducated man. It
Would Be,
So strange to Kind words and passages difKicult to understand in the Holy
Scriptures that in human language try to divine, spiritual and eternal things? Yes
a province of Spain Kigures or modes are used to express it in another does not
understand without interpretation, would it be unusual to such Kigures and
expressions in
Scriptures were written in distant countries, all different from ours? If all
old writing obscure points offers, does serious strange that had a book
inspired by God to His servants in different seasons ago hundreds and thousands
8
years? Nothing more natural containing Scripture obscure points, words and
passages that require careful study and interpretation.
5. Recall here that only in such cases of difKiculty, and not on what
simple and clear, we need the advice of hermeneutics to make it
Fruitful our study and correct our interpretation.
6. Now, suppose a document comes, will or legacy
strongly interests us and we care a great fortune, but the details
think of some words and expressions dif:icult to understand how and why
obraramos way to get the real meaning of such a document?
Surely we would ask, :irst, explanation to its author, if this is
possible.
7. But if we illuminate with such promise that we work, scrutinizing us

thereof, most natural and successful outside undoubtedly read and reread the
document,
taking his words and phrases in the usual and ordinary meaning. As for the
obscure words would look naturally, its meaning and enlightenment, :irst
instead, bound by or adjacent to obscure words, that is, by all
the sentence in which they occur.
8. But if you still quedramos without light, we would try clarity by the context, is
say, for the preceding and following sentences to the dark point, ie the yarn or fabric
immediately to the narrative in which it is.
9. If not enough context would consult entire paragraph or passage, by looking at the
object, intent or purpose for which the passage is headed.
10. And if it does not prove to us the desired clarity, light would look elsewhere in
the
document, just in case there were similar sentences or paragraphs, but more
explicit,
who occupy the same issue obscura expression perplexing.
11. In short, and anyway, so that outside obraramos SU
interpreter itself, since, leading to one or another lawyer, contravendramos the
Will the generous author and the end of the day, we would risk concerned and
little careful interpretation. In the case of the interpretation of Holy
Writing, double Testament of Our Lord, the procedure indicated, besides being
the most natural and simple, is the most successful and safe, as we shall see below.
QUESTIONS
1. What was the purpose of the inspiration of Scripture?
2. What should we expect regarding the biblical language being such its object?
3. In reference to what speciMic points biblical language is very understandable?
4. How is it that in the Scriptures there are gray areas that require careful study
and correct interpretation?
5. In which case we need the advice of hermeneutics?
6. How would proceed Mirstly to clarify an obscure point in any
legacy to be extended to our advantage?
7. If working condition we offer light, how obraramos?
8. If the entire phrase in the dark expression occurs not Mind the
desired clarity, what should we do?
9. If the context we do not get the light, what should you do?
10. If the entire passage is not enough, what to do?
11. Why is it necessary to proceed so that the resulting document their own
interpreter? (See previous lessons).
CHAPTER IV: FUNDAMENTAL RULE

By the above, we have seen how self and more convenient than in
any document of importance are obscure points is care that he himself
be its own interpreter. As for the Bible, the procedure indicated, is not only
convenient and
very doable but absolutely necessary and indispensable.
1. As we know, the Mirst interpreter of the Word of God was the devil, who gave
to God's word a meaning that was not cunningly distorting the truth. More
Later the same enemy, distorts the meaning of Ia written Word, truncndola, ie,
citing the part that suited him and suppressing the other.
2. imitators, conscious or unconscious, have perpetuated this procedure
deceiving mankind with false interpretations of Scripture. Victims,
therefore, such as delusions and great mistakes that have resulted
hecatombs and cataclysms, we already have enough of that interpretation
particular. And nobody should seem strange that we insist that the Mirst and
fundamental rule in the straight biblical interpretation should be provided above,
namely:
Writing explained by Scripture, that is: the Bible, its own interpreter.
3. Ignoring or violating this simple and rational principle, it has been found, as
indicated, apparent scriptural support for many and fatal errors.
Looking at words or verses torn from a whole and not allowing the
Writing explain itself, the Jews found it apparent support for
rejecting Christ. Acting just as the Papists are apparent support in the
Bible for error of the papacy and the killings related to it, not
talk about the Inquisition and other errors like that. By so doing are apparent
Spiritualists support for erroneous reincarnation; Communists, for
distribution of goods; scoffers unbelievers to contradictions; the
Russellites for their blasphemous errors, and Minally, Wilson and Roosevelt, for
militarism. If you had the sense to allow him to explain the Bible itself,
avoid fatal errors.
10
4. Thanks to abuse indicated hear that the Bible proves what you want. The
malice, disbelief, laziness in his study, attachment to misconceptions and
mundane, and ignorance of any rule of construction, prove what you want
with the Bible; but the Bible never prove what men want so badly
willing. Nor will prove no real scholar, nor humble believer, any
thing with Scripture.
5. On the contrary, because the humble disciple and learned in the Word, knows that
"the law
Jehovah is perfect "and there is no error in the Word, but in man. The so known
that is not removed and placed, or is added and deleted impunity to the Word, to
satanic style, because God, through His servant, has made state: "Do not add to

His words, lest He reprove thee and thou be found a liar. And if anyone takes away
from
book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life. "No,
certainly
divine revelation which perfect law, "divinely inspired for teaching,
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work, "such disclosure, we say, not
provides impunity for such abuse.
6. In view of such statements and these and other restrictions, it is clear to all
lights that has absolutely divine sanction the particular interpretation of
Popery it attaches to the word itself superior authority, the interpretation of
"Parents" of the teaching Church or of papal infallibility, as also of no
that sanction the idea of individual interpretation of Protestantism. "No
prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation, "says Pedro and Jesus us
encouraged to search the Scriptures to Mind the truth, not to interpret the
Scriptures to establish the truth at will.
7. Nothing is strange because in the past we Mind eminent writers
such as these: Scripture is its own best interpreter. You will understand the Word
God, better than any other way, at one part to another, comparing
spiritual things with spiritual (1 Cor. 2:13). Which is to use Scripture in such
so that it should become its own interpreter.
8. If on the one hand, pulling verses together and quoting loose phrases
support of preconceived ideas, you can build biblical doctrines calls that
are not teachings of Scripture, but rather "doctrines of devils," on the other
partly explaining Scripture by Scripture, using the Bible as a performer himself
itself, not only the true meaning of words and texts is acquired
determined, but also the certainty of all Christian doctrines concerning the
faith and morals. Note mind that a doctrine can not be considered the
all biblical before summarizing and lock everything Scripture says of it. An
duty is not entirely biblical, if not covered and summarizes all the teachings,
requirements and reservations contained in the Word of God in order to it. You Here
Mits well the law: "Do not pronounce judgment before hearing the parties." But
commit the offense of failing before examining the parties all those who
established doctrines of words or torn verses together, without allowing
Writing to explain itself. Just missing commit that just as
come and contradictions and immoral teachings speak. Consequently, of
great need is to observe the said rule of rules, namely: The Bible its
interpreter itself, unless we make mistakes and bring upon us
Scripture itself curse pronounced against counterfeiters of the Word.
We say "rule of rules" because of this, it is critical emerge
several others, as we are born naturally from it.
QUESTIONS
1. Who was the Mirst interpreter of the Word of God and what their maMias?

2. What should be the fundamental rule in the interpretation of the Bible and why?
3. What evils have resulted from not interpret the Scriptures for themselves?
4. Who prove what they want with the Bible?
5. Why can not prove what you want with the Bible?
6. How must consider the particular interpretation or Papist individually or
Protestant?
7. What principle of interpretation recommended eminent writers of yesteryear?
8. What is required to be positively biblical doctrine or this or that statement?
9. What fundamental principle must serve all basic Bible study?
CHAPTER V: FIRST RULE
1. As already indicated, the writers of Scripture wrote,
Naturally, in order to be understood. And, therefore, they should
make use of familiar words and had used in the sense that usually
had. Ascertain and determine which is the usual and ordinary meaning, must be,
therefore, the Mirst caution in the interpretation or right understanding of Scripture.
2. It will be necessary to repeat here, for the greater good, that in such investigation
also
the divine assistance, there are ways to proceed you should not ignore any reader
Bible, being always necessary to consider the fundamental principle that the Book
must be its own interpreter, whose principle others are deducted, we call
rules or guidelines for interpretation.
3. Of these thus says the Mirst: it is necessary, as far as possible, take the words
their usual and ordinary meaning.
4. Rule extremely natural and simple, but most importance. Well ignoring
or raping, in many parts of Scripture have no other meaning than you want
grant human whim. For example, there were those who imagined that sheep
and oxen mentioning Psalm 8 were believers, while birds and
the Mish were unbelievers, what drew consequently all
Men like it or not, are subject to the power of Christ. If I had
into account the usual and ordinary meaning of the words would not have fallen into
such
error.
5. But note well aware that the usual and ordinary meaning does not always equate
to
literal sense. In other words. the duty to take the words and phrases in their sense
ordinary and natural. no means always be taken to "walk the letter." How Come
you know, every language has its own peculiar modes of expression, and so
singular, if translated into exactly is lost or completely destroyed
the real and true sense. This is due perhaps better account for
case the language of Scripture than any other book, being

very full of such modes and own peculiar expressions. Writers

sacred not target certain caste of privileged people, but the people in
general: and therefore. not worth a scientiMic and dry language, but Migurative
and popular. In these circumstances dbanse freedom, variety and vigor
observe in their language. At the same should its abundant use of all kinds of
Migures of speech, similes. parables and symbolic expressions. In addition to the
above,
occur many peculiar expressions of the Hebrew language. Hebraisms calls.
Needs to have this in mind in order to determine the true sense
usual and ordinary words and phrases.
a. Examples: 1. In Genesis 6:12. read: "All Mlesh had corrupted his
way upon the earth. "Taking here the voices Mlesh and sense way
literal meaning completely loses text. But taking it in their sense
ordinary. used as the Migures, ie. sense meat person
road in the direction of customs. how to proceed or religion, not only has
meaning, but a strict meaning. saying that everyone had
corrupted their ways; the same truth that Paul declares, no Migure
saying, "There is none that doeth good." (Rom. 3:12).
b. Jesus asks: "What woman has ten silver coins (currency of Mive dollars)
loses one does not light a lamp, sweep the house and search
diligently until she found? "In this verse, taken at face value, although
We found an interesting question, we are far from understanding the truth
encloses. But knowing that contains a parable, whose main parties and
Migurative realities require interpretation and designate corresponding to
Migures, we see here as merely an interesting question, but a
Woman depicting Christ; an eager work represents work
such that it is carrying out Christ; and a lost coin,
represents man lost in sin; exposing and illustrating this
admirably the same truth that Christ without express parable, saying, "The
Son of Man came to seek and save 10 which was lost. "(Lk. 19:10).
c. Prophesying Jesus says Zachariah (Lk. 1:69) "God raised up a horn
of salvation in the house of David. "Hardly anything we get here clear whether
took the horn words and house literally. But knowing that,
as a symbol and Migure ordinarily denotes the horn, force or real power, and
home, family or descendants, whether we are not in darkness: we are told that God
Christ raised great power of salvation among the descendants of David,
Peter also says: "Him Jesus) hath God exalted Prince and ...
Salvador to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. "(Acts
5:31). Jesus (Luke 14:26) says: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father
and mother, can not be my disciple, "which, taken at face value, is
a contradiction to the precept to love even our enemies. But remembering
of Judaism, by which are sometimes expressed comparisons and
references between two people or things with such strong words as love

and hate, not only the contradiction disappears, but we understand the
true sense of the text, meaning that without Judaism expresses Jesus himself,
saying: "He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me." (Mat.
10:37). For the above examples we can understand the great need of
familiar with Migures and own peculiar modes of biblical language.
This familiarity is acquired, of course, for an extended study
Scripture itself. But as soon achieved with consideration should
a short treatise special.

CHAPTER VI: RULE TWO
1. In biblical language, as in any other, there are words whose meaning varies
lot, within the meaning of the sentence or argument they occur. It is therefore
important
Always ascertain and determine what the special thought which proposes
express the writer, and thus taking by guide this thought, you can determine the
positive sense of the word that offers difMiculty.
2. It is therefore important as natural as what we call second rule, and says it
entirely accurate take the words in the direction indicated by the whole sentence.
3. From the examples we offer then we will see how varies, depending on the
phrase,
text or verse, the meaning of some very important words, accentuating well
the importance of this rule.
a. Examples: 1. Faith: The word faith ordinarily means trust; but has
also other meanings. We read of Paul, for example: "Now faith Ads
which once he destroyed. "Of all this phrase we see clearly that
faith, here, does not mean belief, or the doctrine of the Gospel. Says the Apostle
God "will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained,
given assurance to all by raising Him from the dead. "Judging by the

set of this verse, faith, here, does not mean conMidence or belief, but
testing or demonstration. "That makes no difference if eaten (by dropping the
brother), is condemned, because he eateth not of faith, and anything that does not
come from
faith is sin. "On the whole verse, and everything considered, we Mind that
Voice happens here in the sense of conviction; conviction of Christian duty
to the brothers. (Gal 1:23;. Acts 17:31; Rom 14:23.).
b. Health: The health word is often used in the sense of salvation
sin and its consequences; but has also other meanings.
We read, for example, Moses "supposed his brethren understood that
God would deliver them by his hand. "Guided by the whole
verse, we understand that health voice here occurs in sense of freedom
temporary. "Now is nearer than when we believed our health;"
health, here is equivalent to the coming of Christ. "How shall we escape if
we had neglect so great salvation? "Considering all want health
say, here all the Gospel revelation. (Acts 7:25; Rom 13:11; Heb 2:... 3).
c. Grace: The ordinary meaning of the word grace is favor; but is used
in other ways. We read, for example: "By grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, "etc. For all of this
verse is clear that grace means pure mercy and goodness
God manifested believers without any merit on their part "The
Lord bore witness to the word of his grace, "ie, to the preaching of
Gospel. "Wait perfectly on the grace that is to be brought
Jesus Christ you is given. "The set tells us here that grace equivalent
the bliss that will bring in his coming. "The grace of God was manifested ...
It teaches us, "etcetera. Grace, here used in the sense of teaching
the Gospel. "Good thing that the heart in grace and not by food."
Considering the whole, grace, this text is equivalent to the doctrine of
Gospel in position to those dealing with related tubers
Judaic practices. (Eph 2: 8; Acts 14: 3., The Peter 1:13; Titus 2:11; Heb. 139).
d. Meat: We read: "By the works of the law shall no Mlesh be justiMied before
God. "The whole of this phrase indicates that the word Mlesh, this means
person. "Give them a heart of Mlesh;" that is, a tender and mild disposition ...
"We live in times past in the lusts of our Mlesh," ie, in the
sensual desires. "God was manifest in the Mlesh;" namely in the form
human. "Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the
meat? "that is, by observing Jewish ceremonies, such as circumcision, which
is made in the Mlesh. (Rom 3:20; Ezekiel 36:26; Eph. 2: 3; the 1st Tim 3:16; Gal...
3: 3).
e. Blood: Speaking of crucifying Christ, the Jews say: "His blood be on
us and on our children. "Guided by our rule, we see blood,
here, occurs in guilt and its consequences for killing the innocent.

"From one man he made (God) all nations of men;" ie a

Man Only, Adam. "We have redemption through His blood." "JustiMied in its
blood, shall we be saved from wrath. "All these phrases ago
Clearly the word blood equals the atoning death of Christ on the
cross. (Mat 27:25; Acts 17:26; Eph 1:17; Rom 5:.... 9).
4. As it is easily understood, this rule is especially important when it comes
whether the words be taken literally or Miguratively. Non
will make mistakes, is of great importance in this case too, be guided by the
thought of the writer and take the words in the direction indicated by the set of
verse.
a. Examples: 1. "Jesus took the bread, blessed and broke and gave to his disciples,
said, Take, eat; this is my body. "Guided by this whole
verse, it is clear that the word body is not used here in sense
literal, but Migurative; because Jesus broke bread and not his own body, and
As for himself, holy and whole, gave the bread, and not part of their material Mlesh.
Use So Jesus, the word in a symbolic sense, giving them to understand that
The bread represents the body.
b. Christ said to Peter: "To you I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." By
whole of this sentence clearly see that the voice key is not used in sense
literal or materials, since the kingdom of heaven is not an earthly place
which is penetrated by physical keys. Debase therefore take on meaning
Miguratively, symbolizing the keys, authority; the authority to bind and loose or
remitting and retaining sins, that on another occasion also gave the other
disciples (Matt 2:19;. 18:18; John 20:23). We might add multiply examples like
these, but enough referrals to give an idea of the use of this rule and
the great need to carefully read the Scriptures.
