First of all, Iwould like to thank UMP for

giving me the opportunity to attend Roles of
Chemical Engineers in Oil & Gas Industry
seminar. This seminar was very interesting and
gave an opportunity to learn many roles and
objectives about what Im going to be in future.
Beside that, I got answer for all of my unknowns
about my major which has given me a
motivation. I will describe briefly below the
different aspects discussed in the seminar.
1.

ChemicalEngineer: An Insight :

2. It

has started by giving Definition of chemical

engineer which is Professional who works
principally in the chemical industry to convert
basic raw material into a variety of products

and deals with the design and operation of

plants to perform such work. Followed by
showing how chemical engineer look like in
real and how others look at.
3. Oil

and Gas Industry in Malaysia :

4. This

point was in details, which was about the

two main parts Oil/Gas and their activities in

Malaysia and where plant of oil/gas
companies located such as
PETRONAS,SHELL and EXXO MOBIL where
most of them in east part of
MalaysiaSabah. After that, the support
industries in oil/gas and their functions, for
example:
5. -

Engineering consultancy and constructions.

6. -

Equipments manufacturing.

7. -

Service providers.

8. Then,

it has mentioned how Oil and Gas players

in Malaysia, which unknown part for me

because it shows me which company is

suitable to my specialist such as: Operators :
PETRONAS, SHELL and PETRON. - For
engineering consultants: TECHNO, MMC and
CHIYODA. -For Fabrication: KNM, THHEAVY.

9.

Roles of Chemical Engineers in O&G

Industry:

10. This

was the most important point because it

let me know about the options or field where

I can work in under my major. Where the
roles was represented in: ( Process
Technologist, Process Engineer,
Environmental Engineer, Project Engineer,
Operation Engineer, Sales Engineer, Planning

Engineer, Reservoir Engineer and Technical

Safety Engineer ).

11. Challenges

for Future Chemical

Engineers :
Level of competition.Cost optimisation.Scarce
energy resources.Stringent environmental
regulation Sustainability.
After that, the representer go through:
International Affiliation : We have
recommended to join after we graduate to
improve and join global network of chemical
engineering, also to reach the required standard
as its mentioned :
The aim of a chemical engineer is to be of
service to the community and society expects
the highest professional standards
such as:

ENGINEERING COUNCIL

IChME

AlChE

Finally, mentioned some advices we should follow

to success in or future :
Reflection for Future Chemical Engineer:

Embrace continuous learning.

Challenge your limit.

Establish good network.

Plan your future.

Follow your passion Be flexible.
