Task 1

Presently the Phoenix is having 30 computer systems installed and they are using the following
hardwares and softwares to run the system:
Hardware- These are those devices which are used with a machine.
Workstation:
CPU- Core 2 processors of 32 bits- 1.06 GHz is used in a system.
Memory- 1GB RAM is used as a primary storage device. It is a volatile memory.
Hard drive- 500 GB of the hard disk is used to store the functions performed. It is a nonvolatile memory.
Sub-systems:
Audio- Sound cards, speakers, headphones, microphones.
Video- Video cards with resolution 1024x768 is used.
Secondary storage- CD, DVD, CD-R, Floppy disk, Magnetic Tape, USB etc are used.
Input- Keyboards and mouse are used as input devices.
Monitor- LCD's are used along with the CPU for the graphics work.
Other Hardwares
Printers- Black and white, coloured printers are used for printing options.
Scanners are used for scanning purposes.
No, The Hardwares are not appropriate for the current use as any hardware has to be replaced as and
when it becomes obsolete and therefore there is always a scope to upgrade to better hardware
systems. So various hardwares mentioned above can be upgraded to the latest one.
Software- The programmes used to operate computer system and other related devices.

Operating System- Microsoft windows 8 or higher is recommended.

Web Browsers- Internet Explorer 11 or higher, Google Chrome 39 or higher, Mozilla
Firefox 34 or higher. These web browsers are mandatory.

Additional Softwares:

Microsoft Office 2013 or later should be installed.

Adobe reader should also be installed.
Installation of Java is required for some courses.
Antivirus application which should be updated regularly.
These are the basic pack of softwares required for the proper functioning of all the task that
are to be undertaken. These software should not be changed, however an updation of this
may be require at times when the older version becomes obsolete and newer versions are
released. So, these software should only upgraded as per the need and update availability.

LAN i.e Local Area Network is used to interconnect the computers and to connect them to internet,
as this has been done in a campus.
An upgradation of LAN to WAN is required as LAN can only be use within a limited area and now
2 campus has to be interconnected for which Wide Area Network is required and then again another

LAN connection for interconnecting computers within the 2nd Campus is required.
3 Network Servers are used to store, share, control and protect the crucial information.
Task 2
The requirements of the new campus are very advanced and that is why investment should be made
for installing the hardwares that are required for the Fremantle School.
50 more computer system need to be installed in the campus with the following hardware
requirements:

CPU- i5 processor needs to be configured.

Memory- 4GB of RAM should be used for the smooth functioning.
Hard drive- 1TB hard disk should be installed for good speed.
Audio- Installation of proper audio system requires sound card, speakers, microphones.
Input devices like wireless keyboards and mouses are needed.
Screens and projectors are also required for the presentation work.
5 Computer Printers and Scanners should also be purchased.
Pen drives, memory cards, flash drive should be used as secondary storage devices. These
need to be purchased in sufficient quantities.

Proper infrastructure like boxes to keep the computer systems and chairs are also to be added up.
5 network servers are required for the 50 clients that are to be installed in the new campus. For
every 10 clients 1 server will be used. In this way tasks will be performed properly without any
delay.
WAN i.e Wide Area Network system will be required to connect 2 schools because LAN can only
be used in one campus and within a limited area. WAN will ensure proper connectivity of both the
campus with themselves.
Phoenix should focus on thin clients because of the following reasons:
No extra or specialised software needs to be installed.
Security threats are very less as compared to thick clients.
It provides the opportunity to use obsolete PC's as clients.
It is not expensive and can easily be deployed.
It will cost around $5000 to install all the softwares like MS Office, adobe reader, java, antivirus
and the site license will be required for each one of them to use, which gives the permission to use
as per the payment done or plan taken.
To use extra software separate license is required as we can not use the extra software with the same
license which had been taken for other software.
Expertise should also be hired who are experts in their own field like hardware, software experts.
Trainers should also be hired who should impart proper training to the teachers as how to use the
updated system and the newer softwares.
Task 3
As newer LED screens, CPU, sound systems, printers, scanners etc will be installed the cost of the
hardware will be around $10000. This will give us an up to date hardware systems to use.

Several softwares like MS-Office, antivirus etc are to be purchased and for some other softwares
site license should also be purchased. This will cost us around $5000.
Internet provider cost will depend on demand we have for the internet. We might be having a
regular demand to access internet. So it will cost us around $30 per month.
The courses or the tasks which are to be undertaken requires the latest hardwares and the up to date
softwares, otherwise some programmes would not run properly. So, it was the basic need of the
phoenix to use these hardwares and softwares which have been easily met.
Professional or the expertise who are experts in operating a specialised software must be hired by
the phoenix to train the staff of the phoenix members as updated software will require proper
training without which it will be difficult to operate. The cost of this training will be around $30005000.
There will be definitely a disruption as the established technology has to be displaced and the newer
technology to be adopted. This can only be minimised by sustaining current technology on fewer
systems and operating current technology step by step. So that work is not hindered permanently
due to this shift. However, training can also help to minimise this change as by proper training
adoption of newer systems can be easy.
Parallel installation should be done which means that transfer from previous system to a target
system should be done simultaneously. This is basically to reduce risk, when the criteria for the
newer system is met then the previous can be disabled and newer can be adopted.
