Interview with Abbas Ali Khan

By Syed Usman Ahmed

How did you enter into the world of music?

Well it all started when I was 6 years old, I started out with playing keyboards and
it was in 1995 that my singing career highlighted.
Your very first single?
It was a national song called 'Qadam se Qadam', it never got out released though.
How was your experience working with Adnan Sami in 'Behta darya'?
Adnan has been a mentor to me and an inspiration too, it was a wonderful
experience because even at that young age I was into music and liked classical
music, he also noticed that I wasn't bored with the tiring routine of recording
everyday like other kids and so he brought me into the lime light in some episodes
where I actually played keyboards with him.
Your albums so far?
(Laughs) Yes, one album with crappy promotions and distribution by BMN
records. It's called 'Hamsafar', I doubt anyone will find it in the stores but yeah it's
uploaded on my site.
Your most memorable performance?
IM Video Awards
Achievements so far?
My Achievements: A lot of respect, a good team and some decent creative videos.
What are your Future plans?
Cutting an album after Moharram this year (2006), and then quick start my musical
journey.
Any tips on how to go about making a Video?
Videos! yup very important, how do go about them?... get a sponsor, if that is not
possible save some money and ask any of your creative friends to experiment with
the video (that might work out) other wise if you think your song is really good and

Video:

u don't have the budget to make you own video go to the channels and they will do
it for you.
Role of internet in today's music scene is vital, your opinion?
The future of music sales will be through the internet for sure, though ironically at
present it's playing the most important role in piracy.
You've always worked as a solo, any plans of forming a band?
I don't think I will join or form any band in the near future.
Your opinion on the role of radio in spreading the word.
Vital! That's all I can say, especially in marketing your product and event plus the
air time is cheaper than TV.
What influences the music you produce?
Eastern classical, hip hop, goth rock, disco, orchestral, many.
How do you classify your music?
Pop in general but I'm experimenting with different genres.
Do you have any favorites in the current music scene?
Meekal Hassan band, Sajid and Zeeshan, Noori (yes I love their second album)
What instruments do u play?
Any key instrument really. I also play some rhythm guitars for composition and an
alibi to save my life on stage when nothing else works.
Do u think we lack professionalism in this field or we are on the right track?
Well some of us do lack professionalism but we are on the right track, we are still a
small industry which will take time to get polished.
Any plans of going international?
Well if I get a chance why not!
You have recently teamed up with Tariq Amin, how has that experience been?
Tariq Amin is a great stylist plus actor, the experience has been wonderful, talking
about IC (the company) we have to wait and see till my album comes out.
Your recent song 'Teri yaad' got a good reception, what's your say on that?
I thought people will not really digest a hip hop song after 'Sun re' but it did great,
a lot of credit goes to my team and Waleed who is no doubt the 'BEST' rapper in
Pakistan. 'Teri yaad' has made me noticeable to a whole new set of audience.

What kind of sound do we expect in the upcoming album and for when is it
scheduled?
Every song will be a shocker as seen on our designed layout. I'm sure the
upcoming album will have something for everybody.
If given a chance to record a song with another band, which band or singer
would it be and why?
I think I would like to do a project with AJ because we belong to the same school
of thought and Noori because it's totally different than what I do so we might come
out with something interesting.
Any message to your beloved fans?
Thanks for being there for me. Look out for my second album, you will love it.
Love you all!
