Many of us struggle a little with the aging process. There are challenges of
course with health maybe, mobility and loss of activity perhaps, retirement and
loss of daily purpose sometimes, and for those for whom many of these collide
there can be isolation issues and feelings of loneliness. It doesnt have to be like
that. We dont need to be isolated, feeling lonely.
Amongst all of those challenges isolation can be the most debilitating. There are
so many organisations out there including our Church who can help us. As a
family we are always on the lookout for family members who need our
support.
I am pleased that we have opportunities to take communion to the sick, to
anoint and to celebrate the Eucharist with many of our older and less mobile
members. The ministry to people in their own homes is such a privilege. We can
use some more volunteers to help in this ministry though. It is a vocation that is
essential to helping keep our faithful connected at a time when so many other
factors are working to isolate.
The other important element of our faith is the opportunity to celebrate the
Eucharist in the residential care places; Kularoo, Barclay Gardens, GLAICA,
Bonventi to give them their local names. Whilst I am the ordinary minister of
Communion particularly as the priest in the Mass there are other elements,
important elements, which need to be present and that is some representatives
of the community. This too is a vocation born out of our baptisms as we seek to
live out of the firm foundation of our faith and maintain connections between
each other. These Residences are very accommodating in facilitating what is
needed.
I extend a warm invitation to anyone who is able to attend one or more of the
Masses celebrated in our Residential Care Homes throughout the month. We
advertise them through the Bulletin and on the web. Attending is simple enough
it is just a matter of signing in the visitors book and making your way to the
Chapel. Directions are given. I promise to get you out the lock doors once Mass
is over LOL.
Kind regards,
Greg
