Estimados lectores,
En Aeroméxico nos sentimos muy contentos de com-
partir con ustedes nuestros logros en estos cuatro
primeros meses.
Para comenzar, desde el pasado 26 de marzo con-
tamos con una nueva ruta, diaria y directa, a Miami,
desde la Terminal B del Aeropuerto Internacional de
Monterrey, a bordo de equipos Embraer 170, con capa-
cidad para 76 pasajeros. Se trata de nuestro noveno
destino internacional desde Monterrey, con el cual
seguimos fortaleciendo nuestra presencia en esta ciu-
dad. Desde ahí operamos ya 26 destinos nacionales e
internacionales, incluidas las recientes rutas anuncia-
das hacia Tokio, Nueva York, Houston y ahora Miami.
También en marzo conectamos a la Ciudad de Méxi-
co con Medellín operando cuatro vuelos semanales
con nuestros equipos Boeing 737 con capacidad para
124 pasajeros –12 de ellos en Clase Premier. A partir de
junio este vuelo será operado diariamente. Los pasaje-
ros que viajen desde Medellín a la Ciudad de México,
podrán conectar con los 45 destinos nacionales como
Acapulco, Aguascalientes, Bajío, Cancún, Chihuahua,
Guadalajara, Ixtapa, Los Cabos; 15 importantes ciuda-
des en Estados Unidos como Houston, Los Ángeles,
Las Vegas y San Francisco, entre otras; o bien Europa
y Asia. Se trata de nuestro destino número 15 en Lati-
noamérica, con el cual ofrecemos 18 vuelos semanales
desde la Ciudad de México a Colombia (14 a Bogotá y
cuatro a Medellín) y que permitirá transportar a cerca
de cinco mil pasajeros semanales. Por otra parte, nos
hemos convertido en la primera línea aérea de México
en formar parte del Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones
Sustentable de la Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, con lo
cual ofrecemos un diferenciador a largo plazo a nues-
tros accionistas y futuros inversionistas. Esto es resul-
tado de distintos esfuerzos que hemos realizado en
beneficio del medio ambiente y de nuestro entorno,
entre los cuales destacan la renovación de nuestra
flota, uso de biocombustible, apoyos filantrópicos,
transporte de órganos y apoyo a deportistas, que nos
permitieron acreditar los parámetros de evaluación
para alcanzar este importante reconocimiento.
Con todo esto, mantenemos nuestro compromiso
por seguir posicionándonos como la línea aérea prefe-
rida por los clientes; la que une a todos los mexicanos
y a México con el mundo.

Dear Reader,
It has been another busy but exciting start to the year
for Aeromexico, and I wanted to take this opportunity
to share some recent highlights and achievements so far.
To start, on March 26 we began our new daily direct
flight to Miami, departing from Terminal B at Monter-
rey’s International Airport, on our Embraer 170 fleet with
capacity for 76 passengers. It is our ninth international
destination departing from Monterrey, an important
airport for Aeromexico and for the region, we therefore
continue to strengthen our presence in this important
and growing city. We are currently operating 26 routes
to domestic and international destinations through the
Monterrey airport, including our recently launched
routes to Tokyo, New York, Houston, and now Miami.
Last month we also connected Mexico City with
Medellin, Colombia with four weekly flights on our
Boeing 737 with capacity for 124 passengers – 12 of which
are in Premier Class. This will then become a daily flight
starting in June. Passengers flying from Medellin to
Mexico City can connect to 45 domestic destinations
including Acapulco, Aguascalientes, Bajio, Cancun, Chi-
huahua, Guadalajara, Ixtapa, Los Cabos; to 15 important
cities in the US such as Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas,
and San Francisco as well as cities in Europe and Asia.
Medellin is our fifteenth Latin American destination,
with 18 weekly flights from Mexico City to Colombia
(14 to Bogota and four to Medellin) thereby transport-
ing roughly five thousand passengers per week. I’m
also proud to let you know that Aeromexico has recent-
ly become the first Mexican airline to be added to the
Mexican Stock Exchange’s Sustainability Index, a dis-
tinction that gives Aeromexico important exposure to a
new group of investors while acknowledging our many
efforts in the area of Sustainability and Social Respon-
sibility, including our recent fleet renovation program,
the use of biofuel, philanthropic support, vital organ
transport, green flights and the use of biodegradable
materials, among others. These have helped Aeromexico
achieve the many important benchmarks for which we
have been acknowledged as we make important contri-

committed to being our customers’ airline of choice;
the airline that unites Mexicans and connects Mexico

un plan de negocios
THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A BUSINESS PLAN
Dice un antiguo proverbio japonés que un plan sin
acción es un sueño y que la acción sin planeación
es una pesadilla… Creo que no hay mejor frase para
resumir la importancia de hacer un plan de negocios
a la hora de emprender uno nuevo.
De todos los asuntos que nos ocupan a la hora de
arrancar un proyecto, éste puede llegar a ser el más
espinoso. ¿Hacerlo o no?, es la pregunta recurren-
te. Para algunos, es el documento más importante,
la piedra angular, de cualquier negocio. Para otros,
se ha vuelto un escrito tan trillado, “rollero” y basa-
do en suposiciones –un ejercicio formal con poco
de fondo– y, por lo tanto, prescindible a la hora de
crear una empresa.
Después de horas dedicadas a hacer un plan de
negocios propio (y leer decenas de ellos) mi opinión
se encuentra a medio camino: un programa detallado
para tu negocio podrá no ser la panacea ni la clave
del éxito pero es un documento fundamental para
guiar tus primeros pasos en el mundo empresarial.
El error más común es pensar que puede ser más de
lo que es. Hay que distinguir perfectamente bien sus
usos y sus limitaciones.
Lo que un Plan de Negocios SÍ es: Una guía
indispensable para organizar tu mente. Cuando
damos forma a nuevo negocio, las ideas se salen de
control y muchas veces las expectativas de un pro-
yecto dejan de ser subjetivas. Un plan de negocios te
permite analizar los riesgos, obstáculos y eslabones
débiles de tu iniciativa y así estar preparado para
enfrentarlos. Muchas veces, las ideas que suenan

Of all the issues concerning a nascent entre-
preneur, this might be the most sensitive one.
Should I make it or not? is the eternal question.
For some people, this is the most important instru-
ment, the milestone of every business. For others,
it has become a trite and long-winded document,
based on assumptions that are more form than
substance and thus, dispensable when undertak-
ing a business.
After long hours dedicated to making my own
business plan (and reading dozens of them) my
opinion stands half way: A detailed program might
not be the panacea nor the key for success, but it is
an essential document that guides your first steps
into the business world. The most common mis-
take is to assume they might be more than what
they actually are. We have to clearly distinguish
their uses and limitations.
What a business plan IS: An essential guide
for putting your mind in order. When we think
about starting up a business, ideas overflow and
often, our opinion on its success ceases to be sub-
jective. A business plan allows for you to assess
risks, obstacles, and weak links and thus be pre-
pared to face them. Often ideas that sound amaz-
ing grow thorns when written on paper.

un proyecto, que poder presentar ideas
claras y ordenadas.
Lo que NO es: Un plan de negocios no
es el guión verbatim de lo que va a suce-
der en tu empresa. Por más bien pensadas
que sean tus suposiciones y prediccio-
nes, la realidad va a ser diferente. Sim-
plemente, es una guía que va a empezar
a sufrir cambios desde el primer día. Es
fundamental reconocer cuáles eventos se
deben modificar para adecuarse al plan
y cuáles no.
Guía para hacer un plan de negocios:
Hacer un plan de negocios es simple pero
no sencillo. La asesoría es fundamental,
sobre todo si es la primera vez que realizas
uno. Incluso, si eres un experto es impor-
tante tener una persona para rebotar ideas
y lograr una mejor perspectiva. La aseso-
ría no tiene que ser cara y puede estar al
alcance de todos, no importa si quieres
abrir una tortillería o un negocio de alta
tecnología. También te puedes apoyar en
los libros que se han escrito al respecto.
Uno de los mejores (en mi opinión) es
Business Model Generation de Osterwal-
der y Pigneur: una guía práctica, concisa
y muy interesante de lo que se necesita
para trazar un plan de negocios exitoso.

your ideas with others, whether they
are your partners or the people you are
going to ask for advice or money. There
is a difference between letting emotions
guide a conversation on a project and
being able to present clear and ordered
ideas that everyone can understand.
What it ISN'T: A business plan is
not a verbatim script of what will hap-
pen to your company. Even when your
assumptions and predictions are well
thought out, the reality will be different.
It is a guide, but it will start changing
from day one. It is essential to recognize
which events can be twisted to adapt to
the plan and which cannot.
Guide to make a business plan: Mak-
ing a business plan is simple, but not
easy. Consulting is essential, especially if
this is the first time you make one. Even
when you are an expert, having some-
one to bounce ideas with and reaching
a better perspective is important. Con-
sulting does not have to be expensive,
and may be within everyone’s reach,
it doesn’t matter if you want to open
a tortilla shop or a high-tech business.
You can also seek support in books on
the subject. One of the best ones (in my
opinion) is Business Model Generation,
by Osterwalder and Pigneur: A practi-
cal and concise guide with a very inter-
esting view on what it takes to make a
successful business plan. It also offers
a very useful app for iPad.

THE UNRULY DRONE
El paquete llegó por mensajería, luego de varios
días de volar de aeropuerto en aeropuerto, según lo
fui rastreando con lujo de impaciencia. Tantas eran
mis ansias que de sólo escuchar el timbre de la calle
volví un poco a los años tempranos de la infancia,
cuando pasada la hora de la comida se colaba por
las ventanas de la casa el pitido puntual del hombre
de los globos. ¿Cómo iba a ser que el tipo siguiera su
camino sin dejar uno de ellos anclado a mi manita?
Abrí la caja, pues, con una mezcla súbita de pre-
mura adolescente e impaciencia infantil. El aparato
estaba listo para volar, pero antes hacía falta cargar
la pila y bajar de la red la aplicación que me permi-
tiría controlarlo desde el teléfono. También había
que leer las instrucciones, cosa que hice un poco a
la carrera, como quien cumple a medias un deber
engorroso y suplementario. Luego de contemplar
tantos videos donde drones cruzaban comedores,
salas, recámaras, estancias y jardines con una impu-
nidad regocijante, no quería esperar antes de ver las
hélices del mío levantarlo del piso mágicamente.
El dron era pequeño, aunque bonito. Tenía cuatro
hélices y dos ruedas muy grandes que las protegían,
amén de permitirle realizar acrobacias tan simpáti-
cas como avanzar rodando por la pared o el techo.
Ahora bien, esas y varias otras monerías requerían
de muchas horas de práctica. Logré elevarlo por
sobre los muebles, incluso tocó el techo, pero en cada
ocasión el vuelo se veía interrumpido por uno y otro
choque intempestivo, tras los cuales caía en picada,
sin que alcanzara a atraparlo en su camino al suelo.
Ignoraba yo entonces que la vida de los aficiona-
dos a aviones y helicópteros de control remoto suele
ser más sacrificada que divertida, pues incluso los

the tracking I did with great impatience. My anxious-
ness was such that just by listening to the doorbell I
went back to my early years as a child, a time when
the timely beep of the balloon-seller used to come
through the window after lunch time. How could it
be possible for the man to follow his path without
leaving one of those anchored to my tiny hand?
I then opened the box with a sudden mix of teen
haste and the impatience of a child. The device was
ready to fly, but the battery had to be charged and
the app that would allow me to control it from the
phone had to be downloaded. I also needed to read
the instructions, which I did in a rush, hastily, like
someone half-accomplishing a cumbersome and
supplementary task. After watching all those videos
where drones like mine crossed dining rooms, living
rooms, bedrooms, halls, and gardens with an exhi-

The drone was small, but nice. It had four helices
and two very big wheels to protect them, so it could
perform stunts as charming as rolling forward on
the wall or the ceiling. Now, these and other several
cute actions required many hours of practice, as I
validated throughout the few minutes the battery of
the small device resisted. I managed to elevate it over
the furniture, it even touched the ceiling, but every
time its flight was interrupted by an unearthly crash
or a bump, after which it plummeted, without me
being able to at least catch it on its way to the floor.
I then ignored that the lives of enthusiasts of
remote control planes and helicopters tend to be

Pesqué al fin una idea que parecía con-
gruente: si ponía trocitos de papel alu-
minio en ambas terminales, evitaría un
probable falso contacto.
Una vez atendida la sugerencia, tomé
el dron con dos dedos y encendí el meca-
nismo desde la aplicación. Para mi gran
sorpresa, pues nunca he sido bueno para
componer nada, las hélices giraron con tal
vigor que apagué el aparato y corrí hasta
el jardín. Era hora de soltarlo y olvidarse
de muebles y techos estorbosos para verlo
por fin surcar los aires.
Nada más lo posé encima del pasto e
hice clic en el botón de ignición, el dron
levantó el vuelo con la celeridad de un
bombardero. Todavía embobado ante
el prodigio, tardé un par de segundos
en colocar los dedos sobre los controles,
resuelto a gobernarlo de una vez, si bien
el aparato continuaba subiendo. Resolví
entonces apagar el motor, pero el dron
me ignoró y siguió su camino hacia las
nubes. Un instante más tarde se me per-
dió de vista.
Durante más de una hora lo busqué
por las calles aledañas, presa de un des-
consuelo similar al del niño cuyo globo se
le ha escapado para siempre de las manos.
Dos semanas después, me llegaron las
pilas y el cargador, como una mala bro-
ma del destino. Escribo estas palabras al
tanto de que, una vez impresas, volarán
repetidamente por los cielos. Si alguien
ve por ahí mi dron perdido, mucho agra-
deceré que me lo informe. Era de color
rojo y estaba casi nuevo.

more demanding than fun, since even the
most spectacular flights last three flashes,
crashes are an everyday thing, and it is not
easy to find spare parts. I ordered three
extra batteries and one charger; since I
was already part of the sufferers club, I
would find a way to adapt to the new vice
with more flattering prospects.
It didn’t take long for me to visit onli-
ne forums, where drone owners – big
and small – vent their sorrows and find
comfort in a usually useless advice, every
time things go wrong. Why did the dro-
ne suddenly work for three quarters of a
minute and then unexpectedly go power-
less? Was it my fault? Would the app work
fine? I finally caught an idea that seemed
to be congruent: if I placed little pieces of
tin foil on both terminals, I would avoid
a possible bad contact.
Once I followed the advice, I held
the drone in two fingers and turned the
machinery on from the app. To my big
surprise, since I have never been good
at fixing things, the helices rotated with
such vigor that I turned the device off
and ran to the garden. It was time to let
it go and forget about furniture and cei-
lings as obstacles, to finally watch it soar
through the air.
The moment I placed it on the grass
and clicked on the power button, the dro-
ne lifted from the ground with the speed
of a bomber. Still awestruck before the
prodigy, it took me a couple of seconds
to place my fingers on the control, deter-
mined to govern it once and for all, while
the equipment continued to raise. I then
decided to turn the engine off, but the
drone ignored me and followed its path
towards the clouds. I lost it from sight a
moment later.
For more than an hour, I looked for it
through the adjacent streets, overcome
with grief, like the kid whose balloon
has escaped from his hands forever. Two
weeks later, the batteries and charger
arrived, like a bad joke from fate. I wri-
te these words aware that, once printed,
they will fly repeatedly through the sky. If
someone sees my lost drone somewhere,
I will deeply appreciate to be informed.
It was red and it was almost new.

a poco, la velocidad comienza a aumentar.
Quienes hallamos en los viajes –de nego-
cio o de placer– un componente impor-
tante de nuestra vida, hemos recreado esta escena
muchas veces. Sin embargo, este tiene algo de par-
ticular: más allá del desplazamiento geográfico
que implica, es probablemente la primera vez que
debo aventurarme en un viaje por el tiempo. Entre
la lista mental de pendientes que he dejado en la
oficina, los detalles del itinerario que debo cubrir y
el remordimiento por haber olvidado el bloqueador
solar, debo esforzarme por localizar a ese niño que,
todos aseguran, llevamos dentro. Es una cuestión
de vida o muerte laboral, pues es él el invitado a
la Riviera Maya y no yo. La misión ha sido clara:
encontrarlo, llevarlo de paseo, lograr que se divierta
al máximo, despertar su curiosidad y consentirlo
para convencerlo de ayudar a mi actual yo a escri-
bir esta historia. Cierro los ojos y cuando me topo
con él, lo tomo de la mano y le digo que estamos
a punto de iniciar una aventura parecida a la que
vivieron Wendy, John y Michael al dirigirse al País

to locate that child which, everybody claims, lives
inside of us. It is a matter of working life or death,
since he is the guest invited to the Riviera Maya,
not me. The mission has been clear: to find him,
take him on a trip, make him have the most fun,
shake his curiosity, and pamper him in order to
talk him into helping me write this story. I close my
eyes and when I face him, I hold him by the hand
and tell him we are about to go on an adventure
like the one Wendy, John, and Michael undertook
when traveling to Neverland. I am his Peter Pan –
my name is not Pedro for nothing – and together
we will visit that land from my past where I never

cilantro, mientras veo a Tahir arrancar unas hojas de
albahaca y metérselas a la bolsa del pantalón. Justo
antes de añadir el cilantro picado, un asistente de la
cocina llega con un gran plato de tostadas. Después
de probar, damos los últimos toques de sal, pimienta

Before starting the class in which we will learn how
to make guacamole, Froylán – the chef who will be
teaching us – hands us a chef coat with the Rose-
wood Hotel logo (rosewoodhotels.com) embroidered
on it and a hat. Without question, Rémy, the main
character in Ratatouille, would be proud to see
us wearing such a splendid uniform. Tareck, a 12
year-old and Tahir, 10, will join me in this culinary
lesson. All the ingredients rest on the bar next to a
molcajete for each one of us. Standing under a big
ceiba tree and with the help of a fork, we started
scooping out the pulp from the avocado, which we
will smash with the help of a mortar, minutes later.
When “Froy” considers that the texture is right, he
adds chopped tomatoes, salt, and lemon oil and
tells us that this is the moment to mix evenly. Few
minutes later, our chef coats show stains that reveal
our eagerness to try our creation. However, I feel
that the secret ingredient is missing and I say so out
loud. With the eyes on the garden of herbs located
behind us, Froy gives us a heads up to explore and
choose the one we like the most. There, I ask him
to cut some cilantro leaves for me, while I watch
Tahir pull some basil leaves and put them inside the
pocket of his pants. Just before adding the chopped
cilantro, a kitchen assistant arrived with a huge
plate with tostadas. After tasting, we give the last
salt, pepper, or oil touches, and trade guacamoles.
While taking a sip from my soda, I hear Tahir say:

Xplor (xplor.travel) es la última parada del recorri-
do. En él, mi niño se impone con su arrojo a mi yo
temeroso antes de lanzarse de cada una de sus 14
tirolesas divididas en dos circuitos. Tendidas sobre
la jungla y las cavernas formadas por el impacto
del meteorito que, según científicos, acabó con los
dinosaurios, cuentan con certificaciones de segu-
ridad por parte de organizaciones como la ACCT,
TUI y First Choice. Me repito esto una y otra vez,
mientras el pequeño Pedro espera con impacien-
cia el salto que elevará al máximo nuestros niveles
de adrenalina. Para él, éste es el paraíso de Dora
la Exploradora; para mí, el de Indiana Jones. Él
comienza a coquetear con la idea de convertirse
en explorador, geólogo o paleontólogo, y yo voy
descubriendo el gran poder liberador que encie-
rra la experiencia de saltar desde las alturas para
acuatizar en un cenote. Ultimadamente, estamos
en ese espacio de la geografía y del tiempo en el que
podemos ser exploradores, buzos, chefs, golfistas

y de dos éxitos cinematográficos son las cartas
fuertes con las que el barrio londinense atrae
a los fanáticos del teatro musical.

pocos metros del Támesis, una riada
de color invade el PlayHouse Theatre;
se ha contagiado de la vitalidad del
universo de Pedro Almodóvar. Las
imágenes de las protagonistas del
musical Mujeres al borde de un ata-
que de nervios (womenontheverge-
musical.com) cubren su fachada. La
nueva versión teatral de esta icónica
película es un arma más con la que el West End 1
compite por ser el epicentro del género musical y
que recuerda el poder de esta industria: la tempo-
rada pasada atrajo a 22 millones de espectadores,
cifra muy superior a los 13 millones que contabi-
lizó la Premier League de futbol. Este montaje fue
creado por el escritor Jeffrey Lane y el compositor
David Yazbek cuando se les encargó un espectáculo
basado en el cine de los años 80. De entre la infini-
dad de opciones posibles, Almodóvar les pareció la
más adecuada. Querían contar, sobre las tablas, la
historia de Pepa Marcos, una actriz de éxito cuya
vida empieza a descontrolarse cuando su pareja, el
mujeriego Iván, rompe con su relación.
La historia, dirigida por Bartlett Sher, sigue
ambientada en el Madrid de los 80. Cuando el direc- 2
tor de cine se citó con los británicos, les dio carta

musical.com) cover its façade. The new theatrical
version of this iconic movie is another weapon with
which the West End competes to be the epicenter
of the musical genre and creates awareness of the
power of this industry: last season, it attracted 22
million spectators, a much higher figure from the
13 million counted by the Football Premier League.
This play was created by writer Jeffrey Lane and
composer David Yazbek when they were commis-
ioned with the creation of a show based on the 80’s
cinema. Among the myriad of available options,
Almodóvar seemed to be the most accurate. They
wanted to tell, onstage, the story of Pepa Marcos,
a successful actress whose life starts to spin out of
control when her partner, Iván – the womanizer –
breaks up with her.
The story, directed by Bartlett Sher, is still set in
Madrid during the 80’s. When the movie director
met with the Brits, he gave them the green light to
develop their adaptation freely. “Pedro has been
very generous and open with us, even though it

abierta para desarrollar su versión con total liber-
tad. “A pesar de ser su criatura, Pedro ha sido muy
generoso y abierto con nosotros”, comenta Sher. Lo
que no podía alterarse en este relato era su cuidado
ante la sensibilidad femenina. Almodóvar también
disfruta el hecho de que “se celebre en un escena-
rio londinense la fuerza que Madrid tenía en ese
tiempo. Es un increíble tributo a España”, admite.
Aunque hay un antecedente, la pieza es totalmen-
te inédita. En el año 2010 la famosa comedia llegó a
Broadway, pero su estreno pronto se confirmó como
uno de los fracasos de la cartelera neoyorquina. A
pesar de la decepción, sus creadores y productores
tenían claro su potencial y decidieron enmendar
errores. Bartlett Sher, encargado tanto de la pieza
inicial como de esta nueva versión, cambió el libre-
to para adaptarse a un relato más centrado en sus
cuatro protagonistas y pensado para un escenario
más íntimo. Por su parte, Yazbek sustituyó algunos
de los números musicales. A juzgar por las risas
del público londinense durante el estreno, Sher y
Lane han logrado llevar al terreno anglosajón el
humor de Almodóvar, que tan bien ha conectado
durante décadas con el espectador hispanoparlante.
El segundo gran reto de esta adaptación consistía
en prescindir de la banda sonora seleccionada en
su momento por Almodóvar; en esta ocasión las
melodías compuestas por Yazbek nos acompañan
de principio a fin pero, a pesar de las diferencias cul-
turales, el viaje es igual de emocionante y divertido.

is his creature”, says Sher. The thing that couldn’t
be altered in this story was the care for feminine
sensitivity. Almodóvar also enjoys the fact that
“the strength Madrid had at that moment is cel-
ebrated on a London stage. It is an amazing tribute
to Spain”, he admits.
Even though there is a premise, the piece is abso-
lutely unprecedented. On 2010, the famous comedy
arrived in Broadway, but its premiere soon estab-
lished as a failure within the New York listings. In
spite the disappointment, its creators and producers
were sure about its potential and decided to right
some wrongs. Bartlett Sher, in charge of both the
first piece and this new version, changed the libretto
to adapt a story that was more focused on its four
main characters and thought for a more intimate
setting. Meanwhile, Yazbek substituted some of the
musical numbers. Judging by the generous laughter
of the London audience during its opening night,
Sher and Lane have managed to take Almodóvar’s
comedy to the Anglo-Saxon land, a humor which
has connected so well with the Spanish-speaking
viewers for decades. The second big challenge of
this adaptation was to work without the soundtrack
Almodóvar had previously selected; this time, songs
composed by Yazbek accompany us from begin-
ning to end but, in spite the cultural differences,
the journey is as thrilling and exciting.

año 2010, la inspiración para este libreto llega de
los hechos reales ocurridos en el Reino Unido en
1968. Fue entonces cuando un grupo de mujeres
empleadas en la planta Ford de Dagenham se unió
para organizar una huelga con la que protestar por
la discriminación de género y solicitar la igualdad
salarial. Para encarnar a Rita O’Grady, madre de
familia que trabaja en la cadena de montaje de la
empresa automovilística, los productores seleccio-
naron a una de las grandes promesas de Reino Uni-
do. Gemma Arterton fue chica Bond en uno de los
filmes más recientes de la saga (Quantum of Solace)
y se pone al frente del reparto en el Adelphi Thea-
tre. Ella es la mujer que encuentra en esta huelga
su propia voz y su fuerza personal en un mundo

jaiba y camarón, ya sea al mojo de ajo, en adobo,
enchipotlados o en escabeche. La gastronomía es
tan perfecta como las plazuelas y casas –que cada
año renuevan sus colores para parecer siempre
distintas y rebozar tan llenas de vida junto al río
Papaloapan. Hay todo tipo de cervezas y refrescos,
además de los regionales “toritos” de cacahuate y
coco, o el “popo”, que combina la planta así nom-
brada con cacao.
En la casa de doña Lupita Velásquez se prepa-
ra el popo, que lleva un procedimiento peculiar e
ingredientes como el arroz, cacao, almendra, canela
y el chupipi –un fruto, parecido a un mango, que
se encuentra en las enredaderas de los montes;
materia prima del popo, para que los ingredien-
tes se mezclen y suba su espuma. Sabe mucho a
cacao, pero bien frío se convierte en una especie
de “Kahlúa” prehispánico, mucho más energético,
con memoria e historia.
En la Cantina de Tobías, que se ubica a un cos-
tado del palacio municipal, se sirven las mejores
bebidas caseras como el torito de cacahuate, pero
también sus variantes como la preparación con jobo,

it is like drinking a concentrated tea with ethylic

The next stop is Tlacotalpan, a coastal port near
the shore of the Gulf of Mexico. Four men wearing
red shirts and white pants play the marimba relent-
lessly. It is around four in the afternoon. Tlacotalpan
remains magical among coconut palms, which in
Nahuatl means “at the center of the Earth”. Tamales
filled with chicken, vegetables, and cheese line up

Coatepec sabe a café. A ocho kilómetros de Xala-
pa, Coatepec ha sido por décadas la ciudad del
café en el país por excelencia. Cuauhtémoc Apan
es dueño de las cafeterías El Cafetal. Su proyecto
es ambicioso: “más allá de preparar y cosechar el
mejor café de la región, mi idea es concientizar a los
lugareños para cuidar la tierra, trabajarla y ser una
sociedad autosuficiente. Lo que me importa es que
se empoderen las pequeñas comunidades y tengan
una producción que les permita vivir dignamente”.
Apan es dueño del Museo de café El cafetal Apan,
ubicado en el kilómetro 4 de la carretera Coatepec-
Las Trancas (Constitución 48, Rincón Coatepec,
Coatepec). Junto con el catador de café coatepeca-
no Avelino Hernández creó el museo que, en 2009,
alcanzó los 38 mil visitantes y que significó una
apuesta por un producto, el café, cuyo mercado se

ha decrecido en el mundo: “Si en el mundo hay un
museo del jamón, un museo del vino o del queso,
por qué no iba a haber un museo del café en un
estado cuya identidad es precisamente este grano”.

E l viento del ventilador aferrado al techo del
hotel Boca Chica sutilmente despabilaba las
ganas de devorarse el día. Afuera, se escu-
chaba el alboroto de los niños, las voces de
los nadadores, las lanchas atolondradas por
el vaivén de las olas y una banda de músicos, que se
tostaban bajo el sol veraniego, daban los buenos días
a Caleta y Caletilla.
Desde la terraza, el escenario que se descubría pare-
cía una postal como esas que aparecen en el álbum
familiar, de aquellos días en que Acapulco era un puer-
to que inspiró al cine mexicano y hollywoodense del
siglo xx. Pienso en este pedazo de paraíso anclado en
el Pacífico como el escenario de los mejores momentos
para tantas parejas y los mejores retratos familiares.
En mi mente, se proyectan imágenes de esos instan-
tes en que Orson Welles y Rita Hayworth filmaron
The Lady from Shanghai en el puerto guerrerense
porque, al fin y al cabo, la obra de Welles marcó el
despegue de Acapulco como destino cinematográ-
fico, pero también como lugar de descanso de las
estrellas de México y Hollywood. Es ineludible estar
en Acapulco y no imaginar aquellos años de gloria
que contaba mi abuelo, tierra de hoteles legendarios
y fiestas inolvidables, como aquellas que sucedían en
el Cabaret La Perla, del hotel El Mirador (Plazoleta La
Quebrada No. 74 Área de La Quebrada Col. Centro),

The wind from the fan attached to the ceiling at
Boca Chica hotel subtly woke up that craving to
devour the day. Outside, the buzz of children could
be heard, swimmers’ voices, boats giddy due to the
rolling waves, and a band of musicians, who were
getting roasted under the summer sun, said ‘good
morning’ to Caleta and Caletilla.
From the terrace, the scenery spreading out
looked like a postcard resembling those in a fam-
ily album, from those days in which Acapulco was
a port that inspired both Mexican and Hollywood
cinema from the 20th century. I think about this
piece of paradise anchored in the Pacific like the
scenario for the best moments of so many couples
and the best family portraits. In my mind, images
are projected from those seconds in which Orson
Welles, and Rita Hayworth shot the movie The Lady
from Shanghai at the port in Guerrero, because it
was Welles' work, after all, that set Acapulco’s rise
as film destination, as well as a leisure place for
Mexico’s and Hollywood’s stars. It is inevitable to
be in Acapulco and not think about those years
of glory that my grandfather used to talk about,
land for mythical hotels and unforgettable par-
ties, like those that used to take place at Cabaret
La Perla, from El Mirador hotel (Plazoleta La Que-
brada Number 74, La Quebrada), where the fame of

Si caminas por los jardines del hotel Los Flamingos
(Av. López Mateos S/N, Las Playas), sólo necesitas
un poco de paciencia, cerrar los ojos y escuchar muy,
pero muy adentro, cómo el viento simula esos gritos de
Tarzán que sólo Johnny Weissmuller –dueño del hotel
y quien murió en su residencia en Pie de la Cuesta,
el 20 de enero de 1984– pudo hacer. Eran otros tiem-
pos, diría mi padre, en los que la publicidad del hotel
–localizado en los acantilados más altos de Acapulco,
a 150 metros de altura y con una fascinante vista al
mar– nos extendía una provocadora invitación: “Bien-
venidos al escondite de la pandilla de Hollywood”.
Durante los años 50, Weissmuller organizaba fiestas
interminables a las que concurrirían John Wayne,
Fred McMurray, Rex Allen, Errol Flynn, Red Skelton,
Roy Rodgers, Richard Widmark y Cary Grant. Mitos
y leyendas se narran sobre aquellas maratónicas ver-
benas que reducen a Sodoma y Gomorra a cuentos
de hadas. Pero Acapulco es, como apuntó el escritor
Francisco Tario en el volumen Acapulco en el sueño,
“una historia de asombro, belleza y espanto”.
Estaba ansioso por bañarme en la alberca donde
Elvis Presley coqueteaba con martini en mano junto a

La Quebrada’s divers was revealed like a Polaroid
by the collective imagination of the whole world.
If you walk through the gardens at Los Flamin-
gos hotel (Av. López Mateos, Las Playas), you just
need a little patience, to close your eyes, and lis-
ten deep, really deep inside, as the wind simulates
those Tarzan cries that only Johnny Weissmuller
– owner of the hotel who died at his home in Pie
de la Cuesta, on January 20, 1984 – was able to per-
form. Those were another times, my father would
say, in which the advertising for the hotel – located
in the highest cliffs of Acapulco, 492-feet tall and
with a fascinating view of the ocean – was inviting
us in a provocative way: “Welcome to the hideout
of the Hollywood gang”. During the 50’s decade,
Weissmuller threw never-ending parties where
John Wayne, Fred McMurray, Rex Allen, Errol Fly-
nn, Red Skelton, Roy Rodgers, Richard Widmark,
and Cary Grant attended. Myths and legends exist
about those marathon-like open-air dances that
reduce Sodom and Gomorrah to fairy tales before
those stories. Still Acapulco is, like writer Francisco
Tario stated in the book Acapulco en el sueño, “a
story of wonder, beauty, and horror”.
I was eager to swim in the pool where Elvis Pres-
ley flirted, while holding a martini in his hand, next
to Ursula Andress, Elsa Cárdenas, and Paul Lukas,
when they were shooting Fun in Acapulco. Being
at the Boca Chica (Playa Caletilla, Fraccionamiento
Las Playas) hotel was already an adventure, it was
a trip to the past where everything is intact, the
planeta: una gran bahía bordeada de playas doradas.

filmaron Fun in Acapulco. Estar en el hotel Boca Chica
(Playa Caletilla S/N, Fraccionamiento Las Playas) ya
implicaba una aventura, era como un viaje al pasado
donde todo permanece intacto, las sillas de playa, los
sillones de la recepción, las ventanas de la habitación
habían burlado las tantas mudanzas del tiempo. En
la televisión transmitían Simbad el mareado de Tin
Tan, también filmada en el puerto, además de Tintan-
son Crusoe, rodada en playa La Palmita. Finalmente,
Acapulco era el refugio de Germán Valdés, el lugar
donde navegaba su yate Tintanvento y su lancha Mi
Lupita; aquí, tenía sus veladas con sus amigos en el
restaurante Palao en la isla de La Roqueta. Alguna vez,
Tin Tan se refirió a Acapulco como “la capital mundial
del paisaje, más natural para calmar los nervios, esos
nervios motivo de todas nuestras desgracias, amabi-
lidad envuelta en tacos de palmera”.
En su apogeo, Acapulco fue la guarida de Frank
Sinatra y su Rat Pack; en este puerto, Elizabeth Taylor

Granjas del Márquez) and he for sure went to heaven
or hell, on his demand, with a piña colada as souve-
nir. John Wayne had a house with a sea view and
Tony Curtis – some witnesses say – wore an apron
and served drinks at Paradise, a few steps away from
Playa La Condesa. How I would have liked to be here
during the years of glory of Las Brisas hotel! With
its lush gardens, its pink Jeeps, and ivory-white
structures watching Ringo Starr, the Beatle, writ-
ing the first lines of “Las Brisas”, after having met
his wife, Barbara Bach, at that hotel.

algunos vivos, me susurraban y bailaban el vals del
irremediable adiós: María Félix, Pedro Infante, Mario
Moreno “Cantinflas”, Frank Sinatra, Anita Ekberg,
Anouk Aimée, Jeanne Moreau, Sean Connery, Farrah
Fawcett, George Hamilton, Richard Burton, Donna
Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Kirk Douglas, Melina Mer-
couri, Anna Magnani y Elizabeth Taylor, daba igual, lo
mismo era para Orson Welles, Diego Rivera, Gabriel
García Márquez, Dolores del Río, Fidel Castro, Salva-
dor Dalí, el Sha de Irán, la reina Juliana I de los Países
Bajos, Eisenhower, el príncipe Akihito de Japón y su

de Acapulco. Sin duda, Acapulco –entre las décadas

Acapulco se convirtió en el principal complejo turís-
tico del país a partir de los años 40, aunque mucho
tuvo que ver que el mundo estuviera en guerra y los
famosos, los adinerados y los entusiastas buscaban

wanted to be in Acapulco’s picture. Without a doubt,
Acapulco – between the 40’s and 60’s decade – was
synonym for glamour around the world. Acapulco
turned into the main tourist center of the country
from the 40’s decade, although a strong reason for
this was the fact that the world was at war and the
famous, rich, and enthusiastic searched for a place
to spend their vacation and find some kind of truce.
Its fame was so huge that even Walt Disney included
it in his movie The Three Caballeros.

urante 2015, en Aeroméxico incrementaremos el número de rutas y fre-

cuencias, y sumaremos nuevos destinos internacionales para brindarles
más y mejores opciones a nuestros clientes de México y del extranjero.
A partir de enero, operamos desde el Aeropuerto Internacional de Toluca,
13 y 12 vuelos semanales a Guadalajara y Monterrey, respectivamente. Esto nos
permite que los clientes conecten de forma rápida y cómoda con una amplia
red de destinos nacionales, así como con Estados Unidos y Japón, reduciendo
tiempos de espera. También iniciaremos vuelos a importantes ciudades en Norte,
Centro y Sudamérica e incrementaremos el número de frecuencias desde y hacia
algunas rutas internacionales:
• El 2 de marzo, Medellín se convierte en nuestro segundo destino colombiano,
con 4 vuelos por semana, y en junio se aumentarán a un vuelo diario.
• Empezamos a operar desde Tijuana con cuatro operaciones semanales a
Bajío-León y dos semanales a Durango, a partir del 5 y 28 de marzo
respectivamente.

options to our customers in Mexico and abroad.
As of January 2015, we are operating from Toluca’s International Airport, 13
and 12 weekly flights to Guadalajara and Monterrey, respectively. This allows
for our customers to connect in an easier and more comfortable way with a
broad national destination network, as well as with the United States and Japan,
and thus reducing waiting time. We will also start flying to important cities in

¿Qué es un Código Compartido? What is a Code Share?

Cada aerolínea utiliza un código de clasificación, seguido de un número, para
sus vuelos (AM, por ejemplo). El término “código compartido” significa que, en
determinados vuelos, se hará uso del equipo de otra aerolínea en una ruta de
Aeroméxico o viceversa. Como se trata de un vuelo en una aerolínea aliada, el
mismo tendrá código compartido con Aeroméxico.
Each airline identifies a flight with a classification code (AM, for example) followed by
a number. When another airline’s equipment is used on an Aeromexico route or vice
versa, the term “code share” applies to the flight. Since the flights are operated by
airplane partners, the other airline shares the Aeromexico code.

times. Cross your arms over your chest and lean as far to one side
as you can and then to the other.
05 Hands Squeeze the end of the armrest to the count of five, and
let go. Repeat ten times.
06 Legs Starting with your feet on the floor, raise your legs slowly
toward your chest, and lower slowly. Repeat three times.
07 Feet Lift your toes up as far as you can, and then point them down.
Repeat five times witout stopping.

rience any of these symptoms, tell the crew immediately. Exercising
