Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

On the Job Training (OJT) is job training that occurs in the workplace. The
new employees learn the job while earning his pay check. On the job training is
also called hands on training. On the job training has many advantages, but it
can also have a few disadvantages if the OJT is not properly planned and
executed.
The goal of the OJT program is to place participants in occupations that
will enhance their prospects for long term employment and will ultimately permit
them to become self-sufficient. OJT involves the acquisition of specific skills and
employment competencies through exposure in an actual work setting to the
processes, work tasks, tools and methods of a specific job or group of jobs.
It is the responsibility of supervisors and managers to utilize available
resources to train, qualify, and develop their employees. On-the-Job training
(OJT) is one of the best training methods because it is planned, organized, and
conducted at the employers worksite. OJT will generally be the primary method
used for broadening employee skills and increasing productivity. It is particularly
appropriate for developing proficiency skills unique to an employees job
especially jobs that are relatively easy to learn and require locally-owned
equipment and facilities.
One major drawback of OJT can be finding the right time for it. The person
responsible for giving and evaluating the training has to be sure that his other job
responsibilities are being met. Another disadvantage of OJT is that it can be
difficult to find the right person to conduct it. The person doing the training must
have the knowledge and skills with the same equipment that the learner will be
working with. Care must be given not to pass on sloppy work habits or

unintentionally teach irrelevant or inefficient work methods to the new

learner/worker.
If these disadvantages are eliminated, however, on the job training can be
beneficial for both the company and the trainee. OJT can be cost-effective for the
business since a separate training program is not required and the training is part
of the actual work shifts. No extra equipment is needed as the trainee learns
equipment necessary and utilized for the job. This training program often works
out well for the trainee since he can acquire competencies and insights which are
not normally obtained in the typical classroom sessions.
The Laguna State Polytechnic University supports the On-the-Job training
program of the College of Business Management and Accountancy to help uplift
the morale, increase the students productivity and enhance the professionalism
of the Future Entrepreneurs under the Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration program of the university.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

(You missed the other part of self-assessment)

In this chapter, the student trainee comprehensively self-assessed the
additional knowledge and skills acquired during the training program.
a. Skills and Current Technology Learned/Enforced
b. Equipment, Machinery, Testing Apparatus, etc. Handled

23

c. Best Experience on the Job

d. Evidence of Background Preparation
e. Personal Relations
f. Attendance and Punctuality
g. Interest and Commitment
Faults
a. Causes
b. Suggested Solutions

Achievements
a. Skills and Current Technology Learned/Enforced
The trainee became more familiar with the flow of operation in
accounting department and marketing department. Through their process
in releasing a checks from 1 company and the Delivery Report of different
Franchise Jollibee and the Sales transaction of the Solane Gas and from
the account receivables to Payable.
The trainee became more confident with the skills and knowledge
that he has earned and improved her communication skills with other
people, which is her weakness. She learned the proper use of electric
typewriter, fax machine, automatic aircon and telephone his first time
usage.
b. Equipment, Machinery, Testing Apparatus and Other Tools
Handled
The company allowed the trainee to use and became equipped to
all the equipments that are available in the office. Marc Pua Group of
Company (MPG) has the following equipment, machinery; testing
apparatus to handle and can easily accomplished the work perfectly like:
Xerox machine, Fax machine, Scanner, Printer, Electric Typewriter.
c. Best Experience on the Job
Everyday are best experience. But the best among the best
experience of the trainee was the time when we are visiting different store

24

like Jollibee Sunstar, Hap Chan, and Mang Inasal in Sunstar Mall we are
having inventory for the month of May 2015 every month they have
inventory of all the franchise company to monitor if they gaining more
profit and to inspect if all the facility is functioning well. And the best
experience for me was when are withdrawing Money from ATM because
that was my first time but now I know how to encash using ATM and
answering phone call from different store of what they concern and tell to
the Store accountant to have response for the store concern.
For the trainee, his experience in the agency is very worthwhile
because he not only learn about the company and being on the job, but
also contributed what she knows and helped the staff about some things.
It will be his stepping stone in hIr future job.
e. Evidence of Background Preparation
The first thing that the trainee considered before applying on-thejob training is writing her curriculum vitae. A curriculum vitae is the first
marketing-tool which has only a few seconds to make an impact and
arouse the readers interest about the trainee. She puts her best effort to
improve the presentation of her curriculum vitae to create a good first
impression. After the trainee has done that, she attended OJT orientation.
The trainee is in the right knowledge and strength to go all the way
through.

Faults
a. Causes
The trainee was apprehended of some tasks that he cannot do.
Sometimes he has mistaken of encoding sales transaction and delivery
report of different store of Jollibee information to the database. There were

25

times that the trainee was unfamiliar with the new software and
equipments.
b. Suggested Solutions
The trainee builds trust in his self and dont be hesitant to ask
questions if necessary, so she can work confidently and smoothly.

The students must have a good company that would give them a good
training ground and would enhance their knowledge and capabilities. The
university must have the good coordination that offer an annual On-The-Job
Training inside their company. One of the best ways of training is the provincial
trainings that would give different experiences to the trainees. An out of town
trainings would give more self-esteem to the students.

business companies will do like San Miguel Corporation, Philippines Airlines,
Coca-Cola Corporation, etc.
