Alejandro Valverde finished the third of the fifth stage of Paris-Nice, which took place
Pernes-les-Fontaines and Aix-en-Provence and
today between the cities of
was no longer than 157 kilometers.
Thanks to the four seconds time bonus he won thanks his third place
the Caisse d’Epargne rider is now only 20 seconds behind Alberto
Contador in the general classification.
“The stage was a very fast and very nervous one. It many times happens
when the stage is such a short one. There was no time to breath and take it
easy during the day”, commented Alejandro Valverde in Aix-en-Provence.
“We missed the stage win also today. This final was a good one for me but it
was not possible to defeat Sagan today. He is a very strong young rider and
in very good condition right now. He showed it already the other day and
today he confirmed he will be an important rider in the future.”
“He broke away at two kilometers from the line and I believe nobody
thought he was able to go to the finish. But no way, it was just impossible
to catch him.”
“As for me I waited too much before I launched my sprint. There was a
bridge crossing the road which made so that we did not see the finish
banner from very far. When I saw it I attacked but it was too late.”
“Tomorrow stage will be a difficult one too. Many things can happen. We will
try to get a good result, added Alejandro.
journée", a déclaré Alejandro Valverde à Aix-en-Provence.
