SCIENCE LEARNING
INTRODUCTION
Our constitution uphold scientific temper to be one of the fundamental
duties of every citizen. It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the
scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform. One clear way of
inculcating scientific temper in the public at large is to increase public understanding of
science. Popularization of science to create a scientific temper among the people is an
essential requirement for the development and progress of a country. Science is not to be
treated as a difficult subject taught in schools and colleges. But it is too embedded in
ones life for developing a logical thinking process through natural and physical
observations. This attitude towards science is helpful in fighting supersitution and
obscurantism prevailing in our country.
Science popularization in India is usually done through print and electronic media.
Various Governmental agencies are involved in it. It is also the radio and television
channels with variety of programs promoting science consciousness among the people.

1) SASTHRAPOSHINI:
Sasthraposhini has a main role in strengthening science education among the high
schools of Kerala. This program plan strengthening of the high school science

laboratories of the state and an effective interaction among the students and teachers.
Teachers will be encouraged to carry out innovative projects in science education for
students from different schools and engage in problem solving experiments and
ciritical discussions. This would provide necessary incitement and fun in doing
science and thus induce a healthy trend in science learning and a career orientation in
doing science.
2) KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA (KVPY)
KVPY is intended to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing
basic science courses and research career in science. The objective of the program is to
identify students with talent and aptitude for research, help them realize their academic
potential, encourage them to take up research careers in science and ensure the growth of
the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
3) PEOPLES SCIENCE MOVEMENT (PSM)
Peoples science movement aims to popularize science and a scientific outlook
among common science and a scientific outlook among common people. KSSP, Bharat
Gyan Vigyan Smithi and the all India Peoples science network are some popular peoples
science movements in India.
ALL INDIA PEOPLES SCIENCE NETWORKD(AIPSN)
All India peoples science network is a natural network of peoples science
movement of India. When AISPN was established in February 1988, there were 28
member organizations and presently it has 35 members. Science communication and
publication, health, education, environment, energy and sustainable development are the
major areas of IPSN activities.

NATURAL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH SCHEME:

The natural council of educational research and training (NCERT) which was
established by the Government of India announced a programme whose purpose was to
identifiy and then in turn nature the talents of a student. This programe was announced in
1963 by the name of National Science Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) for awarding the
students with scholarships while identify the talented. Although during the beginning it
was only for the students of Delhi in which as many as 10 scholarships were awarded to
class XI students. In 1964, the scheme was extended to all students of class XI for all
states and union territories within India and the number of scholarships was increased.
The NTSE scholarships are awarded for pursuing education only in basic sciences upto
doctoral level.

CONCLUSION:

Governmental and non Governmental organizations are involved in it as also the radio
and television channels with variety of programmers promoting science consciousness
among the people. The important governmental organizations are sasthraposhini, koshore
Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana(PVPY), Peoples Science Movement (PSM), All India
peoples Science Network(AIPSN), Natural science talent search scheme. All these
organization helps popularization of science to create a scientific temper among the
people is an essential requirement for the development and progress of a country.
