Industries Alliance (EIA), a trade association that represents all areas of the electronics industry in
the United States.
Digit 1 Letter 2 Subsequent digits

Digit 1 = Diode

Digit 2 = Bipolar transistor N Serial number of device

3 = Field-effect transistor (FET)

1N4004 would be a diode and a 2N3053 would be a NPN Transistor .
