About me
My complete name is Muhamad Khairul Bahri of Indonesia.
Although my first name is Muhamad,
my friends usually call me Bahri. In Indonesia, people may be
called by their last name, because Indonesians usually do not have a family name.
In addition to my personal matters, I have a hearing disability.
My parents told me that my hearing disability was detected when I was 6 years old.
Although I'm a hard of hearing person, I have undergraduate and
master degrees from an Indonesian prominent university, Bandung Institute
of Technology.
In case of Wellington, I have enjoyed my life stage in the city since my first arrival.
While my hometown, Mataram, is relatively polluted and untidy, Wellington is unpolluted and tidy.
Perhaps, the most interesting point I am surprised about Wellington is most people usually walk to
their offices/universities.

b. My thesis.
As I am a PhD student in the School of Management, my supervisors
are from the school. They are Bob Cavana and Lawrie Corbett.
However, I have another supervisor from School of Geography because
my research combines three different subjects such as system dynamics,
supply chain and climate change. My supervisor from the School of Geography
is James Renwick.
According to my supervisors, I have to compose literature that combines three
of these subjects clearly and appropriately. This is probably the most challenging
task during my PhD study.
c. My writing skill
Initially, what I always remember is I sometimes put
one sentence, in any paragraph, that does not relate to
the topic sentence. In addition, I am confused when nouns
should be either plural or singular, especially for nouns that
can be plural and singular.
On the other hand, I have some strength points.
I would like to write as much as possible as this can
increase my vocabulary.
Furthermore, according to my english teachers,
I am excellent in composing sentences and paragraphs
structurally and logically.
Lastly, there are, at least, two aspects that
I want to improve in this course.
The first one is academic writing in general.
As I have to write many academic papers and doctoral dissertation,
having well academic writing is very important for me.
The second one is literature review. Asian students, like me,

do not encourage to do literature review

during their study. It is due to our personal perspective,
that is, critically review other work can be seen an immoral attitude.

Firstly, I have been very happy to start my English writing last week. I hope this
course will be my milestone to international English academic environment.
Certainly, I have a lot of expectations on this course. Initially, as I am writing my
research proposal, I hope this course will enhance my skill in academic writing.
For example, this course can provide me wide range of academic word lists so
that I can write my proposed research academically. Not only academic word lists
do I want to acquire but also academic speaking. As I will do academic
presentation, in my opinion, academic speaking is another important skill that I
should have in order to support my study.
Additionally, as I am studying in Wellington, I should be familiar with Kiwis
accent. This is very important as my lecturers and colleagues, especially my
supervisors, are from New Zealand regions. By understanding the accent, I can
listen to native speakers properly and I can interact with them communicatively.
Finally, there are many plans I shall implement to meet my above expectation.
To be familiar with Kiwis accent, I am willing to listen and watch some videos in
English studio of von Zedith Building. Next, I will take writing exercises, from
internet or English studio, regularly so that I can enhance my academic writing
and speaking gradually. In brief, there are many ways and resources here in
Wellington to improve my English.
