From the Coordinator/Advisor, Sue Scheff: The AMSTEMM Program currently assists over 200 first and second year students regis-
tered in the program by providing mentoring, advising, tutoring opportunities, and personal contact with plenty of encouragement. If you
are experiencing academic difficulties in your classes this semester, and are in need of advising, please schedule an appointment with me
by logging on to MyUK https://myuk.uky.edu/irj/portal. (Click on AMSTEMM) For juniors and seniors, I would love to help you with your
job search, or application to professional or graduate schools. Please logon and schedule an appointment when convenient.

Academic Resources - new events in red


Midterm grades will be posted on Monday, March 1, through Friday, March 12
You have until Friday, April 2 to drop courses or withdraw from the University. After this date, you may withdraw only for non-academic reasons, with
the consent of your college.
Visit Academic Enhancement's "The Study"! Offering a variety of tutoring for different subjects, academic consultations from AE's staff, exam reviews

SAACS (Chemistry Student Organization) Officers and Members can tutor or mentor students free of charge. Simply stop by CP-144 if interested.

The General Chemistry Learning Center is open Monday-Thursday, 9-5 and Friday 9-12 and is located in CP-25. Help is available from gen chem TAs
for all 100-level chemistry classes. Students can see who is there when the schedule is posted on Blackboard. The Department of Chemistry also
maintains a tutor for hire list which is available in CP-120.

UK Writing Center: Located on the 5th floor, west stacks of Young Library. Open M-Th 10-2; F 12-2, and Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from
6-9pm. Offers individual consultations on any writing project at any stage in the process and are happy to meet regularly, even every day, if needed!
It is a free service offered to all students, faculty and staff.
Mathskeller: The center is a computing and mathematics learning center of the Mathematics Department and the Mathematical Sciences Comput-
ing Facility at the University of Kentucky. The center is located in CB 63, which is close to the loading dock in the basement of White Hall Classroom
Building. The Math Resource Center is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Faculty, Graduate Students, and Undergraduate Assis-
tants for 100 level courses hold office hours in the Mathskeller. http://www.mathskeller.com/
Campus Libraries: The library system maintains a humanities, social sciences and life sciences collection in William T. Young Library as well as subject
libraries in several colleges and departments around campus, each library holding materials related to the particular discipline it serves. There are 16

Research Opportunities & Fellowships - new opportunities in red
The 2010 University of Maryland School of Public Health Summer Training and Research (STAR) Program is designed to provide traditionally under-
represented undergraduate students with 2 consecutive summers of a 10-week research training and career development program to enhance their
potential to apply for and complete graduate degrees in biomedical and behavioral science relevant to preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.
Applications are due March 15th, 2010. More information is available at http://www.sph.umd.edu/KNES/STAR/index.html
Bucks for Brains students are placed in research settings ranging from plant biochemistry to computer science to American history. Participation in the
program requires a minimum of eight weeks (actual dates will be determined by faculty placement). Students participating in this program receive a
$3,500 stipend and are permitted to take one class concurrent with this experience. Those who elect to take an academic course must accept respon-
sibility for paying all tuition and fees. Please read Guidelines to determine if this is the summer program for you. Student application deadline is April
15, 2010
University of Michigan has a NIH-funded Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) designed to help underrepresented students who
want to further prepare for application to top-ranked Ph.D. programs in the biological and biomedical sciences. In addition to research, PREP students
have opportunities to participate in a variety of activities designed to help prepare them for graduate school applications. Applications to the Michi-
gan PREP will be accepted until April 16, 2010, however admissions are rolling so early applications are encouraged. For more information on partici-
pant eligibility and how to apply, please visit the PREP web site.

The Beckman Research Scholar Award application process is now open and the deadline to apply is March 5th. To apply, a student must be a sopho-

Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars - As a culminating event each academic year, the Office of eUreKa! (Experiences in Undergraduate Research
