Germany has been one of the most important European mining countries since the
early days of mining.
Coal and steel mining gave the rise of Germany in the world economy, at the turn of
the 20th century.
Nowhere in Europe was such a mining specific culture and nowhere were mining

such importance as early as in the German area.
German research of mining has a long tradition, it is extensive and highly
differentiated.
The first document appears in the town of Duisburg (Germany) in the year
1129 and it was about the right to extract hard coal.

The early mining was quite simple, the hard coal could be extracted very
easily by just digging ditches along the coal seams at the surface
and hard coal had to be collected after this.
Today's mining is highly mechanized. The most modern computers control and
coordinate the work underground, the machines used underground are not less
mechanized and computerized.

2018, according to a plan approved in 2007 by Angela Merkel's gov1.5ernment.

One of the famous technologies was built by the German company Krupp for the
energy and mining firm Rheinbraun, it is a bucket-wheel excavator or mobile strip
mining machine.
Construction was completed in 1978 but after some years of working, it was replaced
by Bagger 293.
