The movie is in the nature of an informative documentation,
aiming to open the eyes of the world to a steadily growing problem. One might think that, this is just another hurdle that humans can easily overcome. Well, for once, humans have survived, so far, whatever problems that nature may have to offer, we have this instinct to survive-an instinct to protect ourselves from a wide range of stimulus that may endanger our existence. Now, we are faced with a problem, aggravated by another problem, and which is made complicated by another problem. This interconnected problem is what makes the entire issue more threatening than it ought to be. One might wonder, what is really the problem? The problem is Global Warming. This issue is quite popular these days, thanks to the valiant efforts of our few scientists and environmentalists, but disseminating information is not really the issue, the issue lies on the receiving end. People know that this is problem, but they fail to realize its severity and the intensity of its effects on them. Global warming is aggravated by another problem: the fading of our animalistic instinct-the instinct to survive. When an animal sees a predator, he then recognizes a threat, its instinct to survive will kick in, telling him to run. Survival works this way. But things are different in our so-called civilized communities; survival is not as cruel as it is in the wild, as a result, our instinct dulls. Being contented by how easy things are for us as of the moment, we fail to realize threats that might bring us our extinction. By failing to realize threats, it follows that we cannot devise plans to avoid it. Dulling of our basic instincts is made complicated by another problem: apathy. Apathy is the fever of the society. Given the right circumstances, that the problem is identified and that plans for the solution is already formulated, an apathetic person might still not act. Even if they know that they will be affected by the problem, these kinds of people thinks that their contribution is too small that it will not even count, that is why they will not even try. Furthermore, problems should not be left hanging by just identifying them, a problem demands a solution. As far as a law student is concerned, we do not run out of solutions to a problem, we are trained to create an idea from nothing. Personally, as a student of law and as a future lawyer, I can help reduce the global warming by: Fight misinformation and improve the information dissemination regarding the global warming. Its imperative that the majority of the population understands how big of a problem is, and how much it will affect them. Write letters to concerned bodies or give legislators idea for a law to stop deforestation. Tropical deforestation is one of the major contributors for the carbon dioxide buildup. A particular scene in the movie shows the boundaries
of two different countries having different laws governing
deforestation, and it was really evident that laws regulating such activities play a key role in this proposed solution. Reduce emissions. We must communicate to the concerned bodies to tighten the restrictions on emission tests to significantly reduce the amount of heat-trapping emissions that we are putting in our atmosphere. Demand actions from our elected leaders to support and implement a comprehensive set of climate solutions.
The things that we can do for the environment is never
limited, it is us thats imposing limitations. Following the above stated logic, to remove the complication, we should not be apathetic. To eliminate the aggravating factor, we must be very observant and we should make sure that all warnings are heard and is responded to. To solve global warming, we must not tend to the complications; rather, we should go straight to jugular and stab the factors causing it.
