Estate Sales Company Mourns Beloved Mascot

Clancy proved
so popular, he
inspired slogan

When Bob Williams

wound up adopting an
apricot miniature poodle
12 years ago, he had no idea
how the little dog would
affect his life, or his business.
He was cute, and he
was friendly, Williams
said. He became part of
the group.
Williams never kept a
dog while he was in banking, because he wasnt
home enough. But once he
retired from that industry

It was through a sale that

the staff found out Clancy
needed a home; the dogs
previous owner had passed
away, and one team member had a great idea.
Jeff said, Well, Bob
needs a dog, Williams
recalled. So that is how, in
May of 2001, Clancy came
to live with me.
It wasnt long before the
dog tagged along at sales.
Clancy was such a member
of the gang that he had his
own yellow nametag in the
shape of a bone. He soon
became an expert on the

changed.
There were people he

recognized, said Hamlin,

who was also close to the
pooch. At one point, his
first owners hairdresser
came into a sale, and he
knew exactly who she
was.
After the article ran,

adopted something else:
a new slogan. Come See
Clancy was now tagged
at the end of every email
sent to customers, along
with a photo of the apricot
poodle.
Once Clancy had sufficiently greeted salegoers, he would go over
the whole house and pick
out his favorite spots,
Williams said. It wasnt
unusual for him to curl up
in the kitchen or under a
chair. But at 18 years old,

Clancys health began to

fail.
People noticed he didnt
feel good, Williams said.
At his age, hearing and
vision problems were to
be expected, but something else seemed to be
changing. Doctors said his
kidneys were not in good
shape.
A couple weeks before
[he died], he was chasing
around, running, jumping,
and had spurts of energy,
Hamlin said. Maybe 10
days before, he rubbed up
against my leg in a way he
hadnt before, like he was
kind of saying goodbye.
Sadly, Clancy passed
away on April 18, just four
days after his last sale.
Because so many customers had gotten to know and

love Clancy, Williams and

his colleagues sent out an
email to customers to get
the word out. Thats when
something amazing happened.
We are absolutely overwhelmed, Williams said
of the response theyve
received. Thats something I never expected
when I adopted him.
Williams and Hamlin
have gotten roughly 175
emails in addition to flowers, donations to rescue
organizations, and kind
words in person sometimes even tears.
I have a feeling that
when I go, I wont get the
response he has, Hamlin
said.

Veterinarian is Always on The Go

BY SARAH BENNETT
People Newspapers

W h e n t wo l i f e p a s sions, engineering and

veterinary science, came
together for one husbandand-wife team, the result
was something neither
one expected: a mobile
veterinary practice.
Glen Collier and his
wife, Dr. Debra Dailey,
both have had long
careers; Dailey has been
a vet for 20 years, and
Collier has an engineering
and sales background with
Bell South. But a vehicle
trade show sparked an
idea in their minds.
We didnt see it coming, Dailey said.
Unlike many spur-ofthe-moment brainstorms,
this one came to fruition. The couple customdesigned an RV for onthe-go veterinary care,
and My Pets MVP was
born.
If I had really known
what veterinary medicine
pays, I never would have
done this, Collier joked.
True, the operation is
lots of hard work, but
the couples passion for
their work is the motivation behind it all. With
Daileys vet experience
and Colliers passion for

engineering, they were

able to construct the perfect vehicle to make pets
and owners comfortable.
The setup for a full
examination station is
front and center in the RV.
But theres also a blood
lab, dental equipment,
and other heavy- duty
materials stored in their
own perfect spots.
In the back is the surgery site. There, the team
has built another table,
but with a high-tech monitor, X-ray, and laser.
The couple hopes to
reduce stress for animals and owners alike.
Anesthesia can be administered with the owners
right there, so pets are
more relaxed and require
less medication.
We provide a lot of
medical care to animals
or people that are old and
cant get up, or are anxious
about travel, Dailey said.
Its whatevers comfortable. We work with their
needs to get them health
care.
Dailey said the ultimate
goal of My Pets MVP is to
reduce stress for everyone involved. In addition,
theres the added benefit
of skipping any wait time.
Past the usual physical exams, My Pets MVP

offers vaccinations,
screenings, micro-chipping, and dental care in
addition to other services. They also sell a full
spectrum of heartworm,
flea, and tick medications, grooming products,
toys, and food for pets all
over North Texas. Its not
uncommon for the team
to trek from Cedar Hill to
Oak Cliff to Denton during their six-day week.
We crisscross daily,
Collier said.
