framestabilityconcept.Alotoftimewasspendtoexplainonindividualstructuralelementlikebeam
andcolumn.Mostoftheuniversityassignmentisveryunrealisticasitconsidercolumnandbeamto
besimplysupportedonbothend.
Fastforward6months,Iamnowworkinginaconsultingfirm.Ihavetroubleunderstandinghowall
thisindividualstructuralelementisbeingputtogetherinaframingarrangement.
Hence,theaimofthispostistoseekassistancefromseniorSEFmemberonframestability.This
mightseemstobeatrivialquestionbutIbelievemajorityoftheyounggraduateengineershave
difficultyunderstandingthefundamentalofframestability.

Pleasetrytomakeaframeusingcardboardmembers10mmx200mminsizeforAB&CD.Alsouse
twosimilarmembers(ofthesamesizeasgivenabove)onlygluethemtogetherinaninverted
shallow'V'fortheroofpart.NowmountthemverticallyonaboardusingpinsortacksforjointsA,
B,CandD.Makesurethepinsarequitefreeintheirholes.Applyaslightpressureontheridge
(preferablyataslightangletotheverticaltoincludewindload)tosimulateload.
