This is just a small gesture of our goodwill and our partners like
the Arab Emirates. We are feeding over 900 families per day as
part of the gesture until the end of Ramadan because that is
what the faith tells us but also this is the month when we get
back to humanity; to our faith. So on behalf of AMISOM we are
happy to be reaching out to the community with this gesture.

Currently we have 16 civilians who have been actually
undergoing the fasting season and for sure this is a very
significant gesture. We know that drugs without food in the body
cannot work and again having food alone may not help so we
need both the food and the drugs so as to help the patients to
get better. This is a very gesture and I wish if such a thing could
continue so that we can ensure that the patients get better.

The Emirates Red Crescent and the African Union Mission in Somalia
(AMISOM) have put smiles on the faces of patients at the AMISOM
Level II hospital in Mogadishu by donating food items to patients
admitted at the hospital.
The Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of African
Union Commission to Somalia (DSRCC) Hon Lydia Wanyoto
presented the foodstuff to the Commanding Officer (CO) of the
Hospital Lt. Col. Dr. Ambrose Oiko on Sunday.

At least 4,500 people will benefit from the food donations that have
been distributed by the Emirates Red Crescent since the onset of
Ramadan.
This is just a small gesture of our goodwill and our partners like the
United Arab Emirates. We are feeding over 900 families per day as
part of the gesture until the end of Ramadan because that is what
the faith tells us but also this is the month when we get back to
humanity; to our faith. So on behalf of AMISOM we are happy to be
reaching out to the community with this gesture, said Hon.
Wanyoto.
Dr. Oiko thanked the Emirates Red Crescent and AMISOM for the
donation and emphasized the importance of food in the recovery of
patients.
He said, Currently we have admitted at the hospital 16 civilians
who fasting. We know that drugs without food in the body cannot
work and again having food alone may not help so we need both the
food and the drugs so as to help the patients to get better. This is a
very good gesture and I wish that such gestures continue so that we
can ensure that the patients get better faster.
AMISOMs Senior Legal Officer Adebayor Kareem and Head of the
AMISOM Protection, Human Rights and Gender Unit hailed the
United Arab Emirates (UAE) for partnering with AMISOM.
The United Arab Emirates using the Red Crescent agreed to provide
feeding during the iftar for Muslim communities who are fasting
during the month of Ramadan and what they have done is to
provide rounded meals for over 4500 people, said Kareem.
AMISOM is coordinating the distribution of the meals to needy
families as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The Emirates Red crescent is donating 900 meals covering the
needs of 4,500 people around Mogadishu until the end of fasting.
