History
In 1993 Bob Phibbs received the Greatest Increase In Sales Award from South Coast Plaza,
then the highest grossing per square foot mall in America. The award came as no surprise
because he had helped his retailer grow from five to over 55 locations.
When asked at a meeting shortly thereafter, what a companys most important asset was,
Phibbs replied it was their employees. When the owner countered it was the companys
customers, Phibbs met with him afterwards. A customer can go anywhere they want at
any time. The only way to build a business is through your employees, he said. The owner
stood his ground. Within a day Phibbs resigned and shortly thereafter founded the Retail
Doctor.

Phibbs has achieved significant sales increases for both large and small retailers,
restaurants and coffeehouses, as well as hotels. The Los Angeles Times recruited Phibbs
