SAFE WORK PROCEDURES

DUMP TRUCK

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Only persons who have been trained and, where required, hold the requisite certificate or licence, and are authorised to do so, are to operate an off-road dump truck.
2.
Operation of earthmoving plant and equipment must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturers operation and maintenance manuals.

1. General precautions
Moving plant and vehicles
Persons operating plant on sites must wear PPE as required on site.
Wear foot protection.
Persons working in vicinity of plant or vehicles must wear Hi-vis garments.
Wear hi-visibility vest or shirt.
Use orange flashing lamp and reversing beeper to warn of hazard from plant.
Moving parts
Pinch points and nip points should be highlighted with appropriate warning
signs posted advising of danger.
Always sound warning to advise others of intention to operate vehicle.
2. Pre-start checks

Check all fluid levels, including oils, water, hydraulics and battery fluid.

Key processes to be followed


Never attempt to clean moving parts of vehicle when engine is running.
Ensure that filler caps and electrical panels are closed and parts covered
before using high pressure water cleaners to degrease or wash down.
Ensure that engine is shut down and hydraulic pressure released before
carrying out work on implements or mountings.
Ensure that parts are blocked or supported to prevent accidental movement
before removing mounting bolts, pins, etc.
Exercise care when lifting or moving heavy parts, or using large tools.
Obtain assistance or use mechanical aids to lift or move heavy loads.
Protect skin and eyes from contact with lubricants, cleaners, acid, etc.
