Base Station Chassis (Shelf)

Base Station
Shelf
(BMAX-BS-SH)

An 8U + 1U high cPCI (compact Peripheral Component

Interconnect) shelf

Designed for installation in a 19 or ETSI (23) rack

Has a total of nine double Euro (6U high) slots, for AUs and
NPUs, and six single Euro (3U high) slots, for PIUs and PSUs

All the modules are hot swappable, and high availability can be
provided through multiple redundancy schemes

The Base Station chassis contains an air convection and

ventilation fan tray (Air Ventilation Unit)

Air Ventilation Unit (AVU)

2U high

10 brush-less fans,
where 9 fans are
sufficient for cooling a
fully loaded chassis

Failure is indicated by
both the front panel
LEDs and a trap that is
sent to the
management system

The chassis may

operate with the hotswappable fan tray
extracted
for up 10 to minutes

Redundancy 9 + 1

Global Positioning System

PIU

The GPS is required to avoid any

inter-site (between BSs) interferences

In a TDD system

AU-IDU-4C
PIU
AU-IDU-4C
PSU

The F/B ratio of the SUs is preventing the

other base station from interfering

There is only one frequency for receive and

transmit. If the base stations are not
synchronized, when BS#1 transmit and BS#2
receives, the transmission of BS#1 interferes
with the transmission of SU2

The GPS clock required is 1 PPS

(Pulse Per Second) with an
accuracy of 10e-11 and maximum
jitter of 100ns
The GPS system transmits two
streams of information:
PPS - Pulse Per Second
a stream of pulses separated by
1 second
PPS ID a number identifying
the PPS, in terms of
microsecond elapsed from
January 1 2000, until the
respective PPS pulse

The ODU Power Feeder is used

to provide power (-48 VDC) to
the AU-ODU-HP

It transfers transparently all

signals between the AU-IDU and
the ODU, while injecting
DCpower received from an
external source

Each ODU Power Feeder unit

can serve up to four High Power
ODUs

Up to three ODU Power Feeder

units can be installed in a 1U
high Power Feeder panel
