PROPOSAL
Prepared by
Brookemorgan Henry-Rennie

I am proposing making a mellow R&B music video for SMilEs. The music
video will be around 3:20-3.40 minutes. The purpose of my music video will
be to promote the artist by providing visual aid to his newly released song.
The target audience will be young people aged from 12-35 as the audio has
relationship content and the music video will reflect upon that. I plan to target
my themes (Isolation, Happiness & Love) via utilising the rule of thirds. For
example when the lyrics talk about his loneliness and isolation I will have the
artist in the centre third; that is just one of the shot types I intend to use and
this will be very effective as it will coincide with the lyrics. By having a young
artist it will also appeal to my target audience.

This Music Video will portray the image of the ideal boyfriend, it will also be
very apparent upon my themes. It will show the narrative too which it, the
ideal boy trying to defeat his competition by treating the young lady. I will have
some cross cut/ montage editing but then in other scenes I will have
continuous editing. The intention of the artist and the male actor will be clear
but their approaches will be the only thing that differs. I am unsure of how the
song will end but one possibility would be for the artist to go back to his
isolated state and an alternative to that would be, the artist and the female
artist get together and end as an official couple. I intend to portray the artist as
a respectable young man who knows how to treat a young lady well. I will do
this by making sure the female is always laughing in shots and looks happy. I
will also do this by making sure in the music video the Ideal Man is taking her
to nice places.

I will film in a number of locations including: South Bank, Westfield

(Alternatively Whitgift), Glenthorne Studio, Waterloo, A Park, A Luxurious Car
and A Bedroom. By shooting in loads of different locations it will enable the
themes of my Music Video to be portrayed very visibly. This will be visible as
when the location changes the mood will change; for example when the artist
is by himself the shots will be very lonely (artist placed in the middle of the
third). It will also make the Music Video more interesting to watch. The only
special effect that I know I will be using so far is the opacity and the Green
Screen. Costume wise The Artist will have two outfits. One being a very classy

but cool looking one and the other being an outfit that could just be in the
house with (jogging bottoms and t-shirt). I have made this decision to allow
my music video to have two feels, to show both aspects of the Ideals Mans
personality. My second actress the female, will also need two outfits, one yet
gain being a very classy dress and the second being the a more chilled out
one (Jogging bottoms and a vest top. My third male actor will only be needing
one outfit as he will only be in a few shots. I have envisioned him having a
thug look (baggy jeans&trainers). I have chosen to dress him like this because
it will show the Ideal Mans opposition. I will be using shopping bags, a new
pair of shoes in a box, a rose, money, mobile phones and an expensive
necklace for props. I have chosen these props because it enables me to
show the wealth of the Ideal Man and it also enables me to show the kind
hearted aspects of his personality.

I have a very small cast for the Music Video which includes: The Artist
(Brandon Banton), The Female Actress (Joanna) and The Male Actress
(Jermy Campbell). I will then be doing all the shooting and editing.

I will be using a Nikon SLR Bridge Camera In which I indent to rent for three
weeks. I will also be using a monopod, SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro SD Card,
a Monopod, a Fig-rid. In which I intend to rent these all for three weeks too. I
need the monopod to set up steady still shots, I need the SD Card so I have
something to save my work on and transfer it to the Mac and I will need the
Fig-rid to enable me to perform smooth pan shots I will regulator lighting by
shooting in natural light for some shots; when shooting in darker places I will
edit the shots once on the Mac and may use some electronic lighting provided
by the celling lights. I will be shooting over a period three weeks and each
actor will have approximately 2 8 hour days of work. I intend to shoot 3 days a
week for three weeks. I will be editing the music video on a Mac on Premiere
Pro programme. Here is a near accurate list of my budget for the Music Video:
