VI

Akkradet is a delightful child who is very bubbly and cheerful. He has adjusted well
to the school and is able to locate key school locations.
He is at the beginners level in the four basic skills.
In his listening skills he responds to oral instructions in school settings and requests
clarification or confirmation when necessary about school routines. He speaks
English for basic communication, he uses short patterned questions for basic
information, he shares personal information example name, and address .he uses
everyday gestures and courtesies to convey meaning. He has a strong Thai accent
which affects clarity for teacher comprehension.
In his writing skills, he is able to use capital letters and final punctuation. He is able to
compose short simple patterned sentences and is able to frame questions using wh
words .He reads and comprehends simple written English and is able to derive
meaning from text.
He is able to select main ideas in short familiar passages and answer direct
questions. Akkradet needs to get more focused as he tends to get distracted easily
and needs to be coaxed to participate in activities.
He particularly enjoyed going to the Sports Complex and loved playing badminton
and swimming.

Punyawee

VI

Punyawee is a quiet chld who has a streak of mischievousness, he is learning to


adjust to a new environment and get used to the school routine. It took him almost a
week to adjust to the Indian food and climate.
Once he settled and became comfortable with the group he began enjoying himself
and was also very popular with the older students who constantly took care of him.
He is at the pre-beginners level in his four basic skills .He recognizes letters of the
alphabet and is aware of the upper and lower case letters. He responds to very
simple questions in familiar context example: personal information with a yes or a no.

He tries to follow simple one step directions.


He is unable to apply sound symbol relationships to decode or encode words that
are consonant blends and familiar short words.
Punyawee had a great time with the Swimming sessions and thoroughly enjoyed
himself in the pool.
He also looked forward to going to the Sports Complex to play badminton.

Lapasrada

VII
A quiet and soft spoken child, Lapasrada is a motivated learner. It is commendable
how quickly she settled to the school routine and adjusted to the group despite
being the only girl in the predominantly male group.
She is at the pre intermediate level in her productive as well as receptive skills. She
writes simple sentences related to familiar situations and uses simple basic
punctuation.she uses articles accurately and follows rules of simple subject verb
agreement. She is able to ask wh questions and answers simple questions in
complete sentences..
She uses the simple present and simple past tenses correctly and is learning to use
the present as well as past continuous tense.She needs to practice the irregular past
tense. She follows clearly two or three step directions in a one to one situation. She
responds well to simple and complex questions with short phrases and simple
sentences. She responds to stories using simple sentences. She reads patterned
language and familiar stories. She uses sentence structure and word order to predict
meaning of vocabulary. She is able to speak in English for basic communication. She
uses short pattern questions to seek information and shares personal information
and experiences. She uses conventional spellings for most common and personally
relevant words. She writes to record personal experiences and thoughts
lapasrada has meticulous work habits and always hands over assignments on time.
In this one month she was learning to overcome her shyness, and was stepping
forward to take the initiative in participating in activities which brought her in the
limelight.
Reading on a regular basis will definitely help her develop her vocabulary.She should
continue reading out loud everyday for fluency and rhythm of the English language.
She should engage in conversational English as much as possible.
SuppaKarun is a friendly child who has adapted well to the new environment. He is
able to find personally relevant school locations independently.
An extremely bright and intelligent student Suppakarun always took the initiative in

participating in various activities and put in his best effort.He particularly enjoyed the
competitiveness in the language games that were played in the class and was
always the top scorer for his team.
His basic skills are at the pre-intermediate level although his receptive skills are as
strong as his productive skills. He understands basic spoken English. He responds to
familiar conversation topics using simple sentences and short phrases. He requests
clarification when necessary. He is a motivated learner; who works independently. A
confident speaker. He understands the teachers instructions and follows directions.
He speaks with confidence and asks questions to clarify things he is uncertain about
in lessons.
He is able to identify the main gist in an audio clip and is able to note the specific
details.
He reads fluently and is able to identify main ideas and story elements in a story. His
reading comprehension skills are satisfactory; He has an adequate range of
vocabulary to convey information and ideas. He is able to write simple paragraphs. He
is able to answer global as well as inferential questions. He is an intelligent and

enthusiastic learner he is focused in class and is consistent in his work. He


enjoys participating in all classroom activities. he should be encouraged to do
extensive reading in his free time to widen his vocabulary.

Thikamon has adjusted extremely well to a new environment and school routine. She
is at the intermediate level in her receptive skills. She follows clearly two or three
step directions in a one to one situation. She responds well to simple and complex
questions which short phrases and simple sentences. She responds to stories using
simple sentences. She reads patterned language and familiar stories. She uses
sentence structure and word order to predict meaning of vocabulary. Her productive
skills are at the pre-intermediate level. She is able to speak in English for basic
communication. She uses short pattern questions to seek information and shares
personal information and experiences. She uses conventional spellings for most
common and personally relevant words. She writes to record personal experiences
and thoughts and to convey information. She was mainstreamed on 26th August,14.
She has opted for the following subjects.
It is commendable that Thikamon not only copes with her own studies but also helps
her peers. She has opted for the following subjects Math, Thai, Physics, Biology,
ESL and Business Studies. Being a bright and hardworking student she manages

She appeared for the midterm exam and her marks are as follows Math :20\30, Thai,

A polite and courteous child, Chan always greets the teacher.
He is at the upper intermediate level in the four basic skills.
He responds to familiar social language. He comprehends stories, information and
oral presentations with support.
He is able to express his thoughts and experiences using simple sentences .He
initiates conversations in social settings. In his reading skills Chan has command of
sound symbol relationship. He comprehends key concepts in content areas.
He writes personal information in simple sentences and uses conventional spellings
for most common and personally relevant words. He uses simple basic punctuation
i.e. capitalization, periods, commas and question marks.
He was mainstreamed in the second week of August.
He has opted for the following subjects -Business studies ,Economics ,Korean,
Mathematics ,ESL ,Biology, Physics
He is given help in Economics and business studies where key concepts along with
examples are explained. When unfamiliar words are explained it is not too difficult for
him to comprehend concepts. He is able to cope with Mathematics, however at
times he is confused with mathematical language. He has opted for the following
subjects Math, Korean, Physics, Biology, ESL, Economics and Business Studies.
He appeared for the midterm exam and his marks are as follows Math: 21\30,
Korean: 21\30, Physics: 8\30, Biology 3\30, ESL: 17\30 and Business Studies6\30.
After getting a low score in Biology he has chosen ICT.
He is a hard working student and puts in a lot of effort to improve his scores. He is
also very helpful and goes out of his way to help the younger students with their
studies.

She is able to ask simple questions to satisfy survival needs and answers simple
questions in short phrases.
In her listening skills, she follows simple one step directions and responds to
greetings and polite expressions. She also responds to simple requests for repetition
e.g. uses body language, use the phrase I dont understand.
Do Kyeong has meticulous work habits and always hands over assignments on time
She was mainstreamed on 26th August,14. She has been getting help in all subjects

such as Math., Biology, Physics, Chemistry Geography and ICT. To internalize


concepts, key academic vocabulary, structures and content vocabulary are identified
and focused on. A list of new words along with their pronunciation, usage and a
translation in their mother tongue is made whenever necessary so that he can
connect to the vocabulary. Videos are shown whenever possible to focus and
develop student learning through daily use of technology to ensure better
understanding of the subject. An intervention programme where the teacher attends
to her in the mainstream classes and guides her in the class. She is able to connect
to previous knowledge in her mother tongue when key concepts are explained to her.
Her math concepts are excellent and she often scores full marks in the formative test
She works systematically and independently.
She works very hard to develop her vocabulary, she puts in a lot of effort to
understand key concepts and is able to apply these concepts and she retains
concepts learnt well. She submits all home assignments on time and performs
satisfactorily in all formative assessments. For the midterm exam she appeared for
Math and ESL and performed well in both the subjects.

Premrudee Rujirachartkul

A well behaved child, Tanawat has a great sense of humor. He has adjusted well to
the new environment and has settled well to the school routine.
His four basic skills are at the beginners level. He listens well and responds in a non
verbal manner to short simple questions. He relies heavily on pictures to understand
text. He demonstrates a limited comprehension especially of written language due to
a restricted vocabulary. He is able to speak in phrases and basic sentences.
He uses basic sentence structure to write on a given topic. He was mainstreamed on
26th August,14.
He appeared for the mid-term exam but did not fare too well. He needs to put in a lot
of effort to improve his scores.

A confident child, Premrudee is very vocal and does not hesitate to speak her mind.
Her receptive and productive skills are at the upper intermediate level.
She initiates conversations and participates in discussions .She speaks English for
basic communication and is able to speak with sufficient clarity for teacher
comprehension.
She writes English in a variety of contexts with increasing independence and
accuracy with some support. She is able to skim and scan for key information with
familiar vocabulary and context, and answers inferential questions satisfactorily.
Her aural skills are fairly good. She understands social English but requires

contextual support to understand academic language. She has been mainstreamed


from the second week of August and will be attending the regular ESL program.
She was mainstreamed on 26th August,14.

Chamaiporn joined the school a week late. A quiet child, she has adjusted well to a
new environment. She is at the beginners level in her receptive as well as productive
skills. She understands basic spoken English and responds to clear short simple
questions. She follows simple directions with support from visual questions. In her
reading skills she completes sentence patterns based on familiar and meaningful
context and vocabulary. She composes short simple patterned sentences. She
speaks English for basic communication. She shares personal information example
name, address and expresses basic needs using single words. He was
mainstreamed on 26th August,14.

An affectionate child, Tannapas greets the teacher with a bright smile. She is at
the beginners level in the four basic skills. She speaks English for basic
communication, she uses short patterned questions for basic information, she shares
personal information example name, and address .she uses everyday gestures and

discussions. His writing skills are at the pre-intermediate level. He has acquired a
basic communicative repertoire in English which enables him to participate in class
activities. He is able to skim and scan for key information. He understands social
English but requires contextual support to understand academic language. He has
been mainstreamed from the second week of August and will be coming for some
ESL classes.

aloud in class with some fluency. He selects main ideas in short familiar passages
and is able to skim and scan information. He responds to stories using simple
sentences. In his writing skills he is able to write using basic sentence structure. He
applies knowledge of basic writing conventions, i.e. punctuations, spelling and
capitalization.
He was mainstreamed on 26th August,14.

Natacorn is a polite child who greets the teacher with a smile. He is at the pre
beginners level in the four basic skills. He is able to recognize the letters of the
alphabet. He responds to very simple questions in familiar context that is personal
information. He is able to greet others and use basic vocabulary for social
interaction. He is able to identify upper and lower case letters of the English
alphabet. He recognizes simple words and phrases related to immediate needs. He
is able to spell simple words and write basic personal information. He is able to use
simple punctuation example: period and question marks.
He was mainstreamed on 26th August,14.

Daul

VII

Daul has been in Indus school for the past 3 months. He came with zero knowledge
of English. He experienced academic difficulties due to a restricted vocabulary. He
gets support for the following subjects Geography, Biology Chemistry, Physics, ICT
and Math. He has dropped History
An intervention programme is also used for him so that the teacher familiarizes
herself with the routine, vocabulary and concepts being taught in class.
He also gets some support when Science practical are going on. Experiments re:
Food tests were performed again to familiarize him with the experiments.
Notes from the class are photocopied for him and given to him for reference. Key
words are focused on and meanings and pictures related to it are found on the
internet. He also gets help on how to pronounce them and often words and key
concepts are translated to help him internalize the concepts. Key concepts are

A bright child, Sitawut is constantly immersed in a story book.


He follows instructions and identifies details in giving a description. He expresses
opinions and provides factual information wherever required
He has been mainstreamed to the main class from the second week of August.

Kwang Jin Jang

VIII

Kwang Jin has been in the school for the past two years. Along with academic issues
he has also been having behavioural issues. This year he has been getting support
for the following subjects Geography, Biology Chemistry, Physics, ICT and Math.
Notes from the class are photocopied for him and given to him for reference. Key
words are focused on and meanings and pictures related to it are found on the

internet. He also gets help on how to pronounce these words and often words and
key concepts are translated to help him internalize the concepts. Key concepts are
highlighted in the textbooks and in the notes given by the teacher.
Graphic organizers are used to help him comprehend and memorize key concepts
taught.
Scaffolding strategies are used to teach a lesson.as well as help him to do a
formative test.
For his behavioral issues he had sessions with the school counselor Ms..Nivediata
who along with the ESL teacher set achievable goals and targets for him. She also
spoke to him about expected behavior in class and outside. The Esl teacher also met
the Korean teacher Ms.Diana and asked her to speak about acceptable behacvoiur
and what he has to focus on to achieve the goals set for him..
He must learn to get organized as often his note books are missing ,his txt books are
lost
