ROOM 1
WRITING ROOM
Snapping Strings, 1pm-2pm
Henry Raby
Between 2012 & 2013, Henry documented various
music gigs by writing poetry on-the-spot inspired by
the music, personality and, of course, the lyrics of
various acoustic musicians. This resulted in a zine
called Snapping Strings in 2013 and collaborating
with musician Travels By Telephone to produce a
poetry/music/story-telling fusion show called
Practise Patience. This workshop will explore how
to take your favourite song, or favourite type of
music, and find ways of playing and reshaping its
essence into a new poem or piece of writing.

Enigma with the aim of getting young people

ROOM 3
ACTION ROOM
Self Defence Workshop 12pm-2pm

Queer direct action: Acting for ourselves

and in solidarity, 2pm-3pm
Red and Black Leeds
Direct action describes a way of getting what we
want by the most direct route possible, and needn't
be illegal or risky. Inspired by "solidarity unionism"
the approach favoured by solidarity networks like
Seattle Solidarity Network, unions such as the
Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and the
Solidarity Federation, and the successes they've had
in winning demands around housing, working
conditions and community issues, we're here to talk
about collectively fighting queerphobia in ways that
are practical and effective. Keira from Sheffield IWW
will join us to share the story of their campaign and
how collective action got them their job back after
getting sacked for using their choice of toilets. After

an introductory presentation we'll open things up to

talk about what real life problems we're facing and
what kind of solidarity actions we would like to see
from others to support us.

Queer Mental Health, 3pm-4pm

Amber and Tove
A session focusing on how to make our community
safe and accessible for people with mental health
difficulties, how to provide support for others, and
how people might create support groups which are
safe and productive for everybody involved. With
special focus on accessing medical help, the
reasons why this kind of help can be inaccessible or
intimidating and how we as a community can change
this through action.

ROOM 4
INFO ROOM
Asexuality Workshop, 2pm-3pm

Safe Spaces Policy:

This is the safer spaces policy for Wharf Chambers, and will apply to
anybody in the building throughout queer fest. Please respect other people
at both venues, and follow this code of conduct. If you are found to be in
violation of the safer spaces policy at either venue you will be banned from
the rest of queer fest without reimbursement for your ticket, so be nice to
each other! On top of that, Wharf Chambers will follow their policy as
outlined below. If you have issues with anybody violating this policy, please
talk to a member of staff at either venue as a first point of action.
Detailed below are the types of behaviour that we dont tolerate and the
reaction the perpetrator can expect from us should these situations occur. If
we consider your behaviour, physical or otherwise, sufficiently serious, you
can expect a minimum ban of 3 months and to have membership revoked.
In accordance with our Club rules we will then want to meet with you to
check you have understood our policy before your membership is reinstated, which may also be subject to the approval of other members where
appropriate.
We hope that it will be possible to resolve issues in a mutually supportive
manner without the need for police intervention. However we understand
that this might not always be possible and that there are scenarios we are
not equipped to deal with and would call the police in this instance.
Physical Violence
Definition/ Explanation: This type of behaviour may intimidate or injure
other people present, could damage the clubs reputation as a safe
environment, and could jeopardise our license.
What we will do immediately: If we are made aware of physical violence
the perpetrator will be asked to leave the premises immediately. They can
then expect a minimum ban of 3 months, or more depending on the nature
and severity of the offence.

What we will do afterwards: A review will then be held prior to

reinstatement of membership.
Prejudiced behaviour
Definition/ Explanation: At Wharf Chambers we will not tolerate any form
of prejudiced behaviour. This includes but is not restricted to (and in no
particular order) homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, sizeism,
classism, racism, or ageism.
What we will do immediately: Prejudiced behaviour is often subtle in its
nature and will normally need to be reported for us to deal with it. The
perpetrator will be reminded of the Clubs policies, or if it is sufficiently
serious or they persist they will be told to leave.
What we will do afterwards: A ban of 3 months or more may be
appropriate depending on the severity of the incident. A review will then be
held prior to reinstatement of membership.
Harassment
Definition/ Explanation: Different people interpret and define harassment
in a number of different ways. They might include threats or verbal abuse,
such as use of derogatory language intended to undermine or insult.
Harassment can include wilful misinterpretation of someones desires, e.g.
not leaving them alone when they clearly want you to leave them alone, or
inappropriate touching or invasion of personal space.
What we will do immediately: Like prejudiced behaviour, harassment is
serious but can be hard to prove. If we are made aware of it, the perpetrator
will be reminded of the Clubs policies, or if it is sufficiently serious or they
persist they will be told to leave.
What we will do afterwards: A ban of 3 months or more may be
appropriate depending on the severity of the incident. A review will then be
held prior to reinstatement of membership.

Membership:
You must be a member or guest of a
member to attend events at Wharf
Chambers. Joining costs 1pa. See the
Wharf Chambers website for more details,
or to register as a member online.

Special Thanks:
A huge thank you to everybody who helped us put this
together. To the bands, the workshoppers, the organisations,
the foodies and everybody who bought a ticket. Just look at
