Interview [02.05.13]

Intel inside stickers on personal computers is still the king of PC chips. But
that is a shrinking business, and Intel is a laggard in making chips for hot products
like smartphones and tablets.
In 2012, almost two-thirds of Intels $53 billion in revenue came from making chips for
PCs, a market Mr. Krzanich acknowledges is not growing, lets be honest
The resources that made us great in PCs and servers are even stronger in the mobile

Respuesta: Wearable Technology: a new way of portable technology

Microprocesadores personales
Qu es la Wearable Technology? [To Be Discussed: TBD]
What's the deal with wearable tech?
Wearable tech may enter the enterprise soon, so IT should get to know these
devices before they have to manage them.
If users bring smartphones and tablets into the enterprise, then why not
wearable tech? Wearable devices haven't taken the world by storm quite yet, but
it's not too early to get prepared.
It's always better for IT to get ahead of new trends than get caught behind the
wave. And the next trend may be wearable devices that users can have on their
person, connect to their phone, and use for purposes like making calls, entering
data and accessing apps. Since wearable devices can be hands-free, there are a
lot of possibilities for enterprise use. Although it's uncertain whether these
devices will see widespread adoption in the business world, it's not likely wearable
tech will go by the wayside with consumers.
Get to know these new computing devices before your employees start
bringing them to the office.

47

Microprocesadores personales
Qu es la Wearable Technology? [To Be Discussed: TBD]
Beecham Research has found Wearable technology companies do not have
the right approach to wearable technology
Technology firms are placing too much focus on device aesthetics or
functionality, but fail to properly combine these aspects.
We see wearable tech as playing a critical role in the drive to greater
connectivity and the internet of things, where we will interact with intelligent spaces
through wearable devices.
If consumers do not like the look of a product, they are less likely to wear it.
Companies need to have more awareness of customers and how they want
devices to look as well as what they want them to do
Employees are required to wear devices for work, they are still more likely to
benefit from them more if they enjoy wearing and using them.

cinta adhesiva (sustrato flexible).

Intel Technology Journal

.Working with a content architect who is a master of a domain, the Journal

is designed to provide a balanced set of articles selected from the best
authors to write them.

Example: Volume:17 2013. Memory Resilience

Resiliency is an important attribute of a system. It enables a system to continue to function correctly, sometimes in
a degraded fashion, in the presence of faults, errors, or other variation. There are many ways to increase the
resiliency of a system. A simple way to increase resiliency is by over-designing. That is, we include additional
margins in the design specification to account for variations, and cover all possible variations or failure scenarios a
system may encounter in its expected lifetime. The added margin enables the system to remain robust and faultfree. Obviously, over-design is not the most efficient way to make a system resilient because not all variations or
scenarios will occur at the same time. In order to ensure the correct operation, we must design the system for the
worst-case combination of all variations while it may be very rare that all these variations happen at the same time.
Moreover, it may also be very difficult to anticipate all possible scenarios or variations a system may encounter in
its lifetime at the design phase. Resiliency is a design methodology to manage risks through design tradeoffs and is
more efficient than over-design.
This issue of the Intel Technology Journal is grouped into four sections.
The first section covers embedded memory. The second section contains
three articles on the topic of error correction codes (ECCs). The third and
fourth sections of the issue contain four articles from academia. The
university authors are recipients of either Intel sponsored research
funding or Intel Young Faculty Awards. All of them are doing active
research on memory architecture and memory resiliency.

Redefining Personal computing

PC Magazine

By Dan Costa August 12, 2011 PC Magazine

A few days after I got the job as Editor-inChief of PCMag.com,
I met with an executive at a huge interactive
agency for drinks. Congratulations, she told
me brightly,
but you have to change the name of the
sitePC is just awful.
Indeed, in the narrowest sense, the name
seems misleading.
We know cover the whole range of
computerized products:
HDTVS, digital cameras, tablets, cell
phones, Macs of every stripe, and so on.

Technology permeates every aspect of our

social, family, and business lives.

Personal Computing Ecosystem

Personal computing
Complejo y diverso ecosistema personal asociado a uso de TIC.
Personal Computing es tambin un concepto evolutivo

Personal computing is:

Personal Computing is using a camera on the smart phone to identify a
place.
Personal Computing is using a iPad or a smartphone to send email during
your commute, so you can fit an extra hours worth of work into every day.
Personal Computing is using an app to automatically track all of your financial
transactions and send you alerts when you spend too much on alcohol and
bars.
Personal Computing is wireless connecting your laptop to your TV and
streaming movies in high-definition.
Personal Computing is using a free VPN to create a secure communication
channel for online shopping or communicating with your doctor online.
Personal Computing is making posts on Facebook. []

Note. "Sexy" might not be the first adjective that comes to mind when thinking
about enterprise-grade notebooks, but that's how some reviews are describing
the first generation of Ultrabook devices.
Focus on Usability
Ultrabook devices must be able to wake up in less than seven seconds so
users always have immediate access to both content stored on their Ultrabook and
Web-based data. Smart Connect allows the device to periodically wake up while
its asleep and refresh the content. So as you open it up, within seconds, you have
updated content.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Utilizacin del ecosistema de

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Common policy and expectation questions

How much control should the company have over the employees
device and content?
Who should pay for the device and monthly service?
What constitutes a reasonable end-user agreement?
Which devices should the company support?
What happens to company data on a personal device when the
employee leaves the company?
Mobile computing has an important role to play in supporting the
business, but it is also incredibly risky if it is not supported by a properly
thought-out security strategy, [McMurdie 2014]

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) versus
CYOD (Choose Your Own Device)

Two alternatives:
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Any device, owned by the user, used anywhere.
Users purchase, own and maintain a device found on the open market. They
even install apps themselves. Challenges include data security, experience
consistency, support expenses, policy and integration.

Choose Your Own Device (CYOD)

Preapproved device, owned by the company, used anywhere.
In most cases, the company purchases, owns and maintains the device.
Employees choose from an approved list in a custom online portal.
Challenges include security and scalability.

Corporate-owned personally-enabled (COPE)

It is a business model in which an organization provides its employees
with mobile computing devices and allows the employees to use them as
if they were personally-owned notebook computers, tablets or smartphones.
The COPE model can facilitate mobile device management (MDM)

BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud)

Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC)

is the trend towards allowing employees to use cloud application or cloud
storage services of their choice in the workplace..
In a small or mid-size enterprises, allowing employees to use public cloud
services like Google Apps or Dropbox.
The use of any shadow IT can pose security and compliance concerns in
the workplace and BYOC in particular can prevent business owners from
knowing exactly where their company's information is being stored, who has
access to it and what it's being used for.
To prevent BYOC from becoming a problem, businesses should
implement policies that strictly define what personal cloud services can be
used for work-related tasks (if any) and who needs to be notified when a
personal cloud service is used.

EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management )

EMM is an approach to securing and enabling employee use of

smartphones and tablets.
In addition to addressing security concerns, a strong EMM strategy
also helps employees be more productive by providing them with
the tools they need to perform work-related tasks on smartphones
and tablets.
EMM typically involves some combination of mobile device
management (MDM), mobile application management (MAM) and mobile
information management (MIM).
MDM focuses on locking down mobile Devices.
MAM focuses on controlling which users can access which Applications
MIM focuses on allowing only approved applications to access or transmit

IT Key Priorities [ZDNet 2014]

Report: IT Leaders Tech Predictions for 2015-2018 [Tech Pro Research]

Key findings include:
82 percent of IT leaders consider security a top priority
Improving security, lowering costs, improving applications to match business
processes and project management are company priorities.
Increasing productivity through technology and improving efficiency and
business processes are key issues for IT departments.
Moving data and services to the cloud is seen as important (more so by
CXOs), but there is also a level of dedication to in-house systems and
servers, which is based on a certain degree of skepticism.
Cloud computing turbulence is expected.
The Internet of Things is strongly expected to take off.
There is more faith in the future of Linux desktops than in the possibility of
Apple surpassing Microsoft in the enterprise.
Security, mobility and big data are the top three technologies to watch.

Platform Technology

A Platform Technology is set of integrated and interrelated technological

elements or integrated features: hardware, software, users, developers,
standards, market, communities, etc. (Platform Technology ICT ecosystem)

Platform technologies differ from traditional platforms in that they are not only
predicated on physical assets.

Examples: Apple platform, Android platform, Internet of Things platform, etc.

Platforms today must adapt very quickly

Common general requirements:

quicker response times

innovate quickly and deeply
rapidly deploy new integrated features
create and dominate new markets
reduced risk business models
bigger customer base

Platform Technology

Don't Build Products. Build Platforms [Phil Simon 2014].

Platform-based companies that have learned how to integrate a wide universe of

consumers and partners into their ecosystems.

Consumers are usually the most important actors of the corresponding platforms.

Success of a platform strategy is mainly determined by three factors:

Connection: how easily others can plug into the platform.
Gravity: how well the platform attracts participants
Flow: how well the platform fosters the exchange and co-creation of value
