Installing the DAS program

DAS Program Installation
The DAS software has an automatic install procedure.
Windows Version

Setup file to execute

DAS-xx.x-setup.exe
Note: xx.x is the version of the DAS (in the following example xx.x = 25.0).
Step 1: To start the install procedure, execute the setup file from the table above. The following window
will be displayed.
Step 2: Read the text and press Next.

USB/RS-232 Adapter Installation Procedure
The following USB/RS-232 adapter installation procedure applies to the Vivanco USB SER-N 23425
adapter. The installation procedure for another USB/RS-232 adapter might be slightly different.

new COM Port (COM4 on our test laptop used for Win7/Vista compatibility tests) is available and ready
for use.

CreateaDASfolderintheC:\Users\Publicdirectory.
DoubleclickontheDASsetup.exefiletostarttheinstallation.
IntheChooseInstallLocationdialog,clicktheBrowsebutton,andselecttheC:\Users\Public\DASfolder.

CAUTION: Do not install DAS into the default C:\Program Files\Vibro-Meter\DAS folder. The DAS
application will not work when installed into this directory!

General
Overview
The DAS (Data Acquisition Software) receives data from the CMC (Central Maintenance Computer)
and displays the data in a readable format for the Maintenance personnel. The DAS is compatible with
all CMC versions and displays the CMC data accordingly. Detection of CMC versions 10 and higher is
performed automatically, while with versions lower than 10, the user must manually perform the
detection.

3.2.1 Startup sequence

1. When the Application starts up, the Serial Port is initialized.
2. The CMC Version is requested, for versions 10 or higher the version is automatically detected.
3. For older CMC versions, a dialog shown in the figure below is displayed enabling the user to
input the correct CMC version.
4. Following this procedure, the main dialog is displayed to allow the user to select the DAS
functions.

Running the DAS program

Step 1: In your computer, double click on the DAS icon.
The DAS program starts and displays the following window.
Step 2: Select one of the buttons to download the CMC data:
Full DAS
This option allows full access to all DAS functionalities.
Automatic DAS
This option performs an automatic downloadind of all

data and stores the data on a floppy disk, if requested.
Upon completion the DAS Selection dialog appears.
FADEC Labels
This option displays the Preview FADEC Realtime

screen followed by the dialog for selecting Analog or
Discrete Labels. Upon completion the DAS Selection
dialog appears.
Note: Exit terminates the program

User Interface
The Application is Menu and Dialog based, comprising of several dialogs, one Scrolling view for
displaying Download data and two Form views for displaying the FADEC Real-Time Data.

Menus enable the selection of the different functions in the Full DAS, with the user selecting with the
mouse or keyboard the required menu option, corresponding to the task required to be performed.

Provides options to allow the user to record FADEC Labels previously selected and recorded to a file
with a specific source, also allowing the visualization of the file that records FADEC bits errors.
Configures the font and serial port.
FADEC Data Recorder Opens the FADEC Data Recorder Dialog.

View error file
Previews the FADEC Data Recorder Error results.
Options
Allows the user to configure the font and serial interface.
Note: The System Options is available only when activated in the INI file providing the
following options:
Save Data, force the data to be re-saved into its corresponding file.
Load / Save Raw data, allows later loading of an actual download.
Get Version, Gets the CMC version and restarts the program.
Generate Test Data, Generates random data used for testing.

Allows the user to switch to another analog label or to

the discrete labels.
Re-start
Re-starts the real-time downloading after it has been

stopped.

Dialogs
All Dialogs allow to the user to enter program options or perform a specific action.
5.3.1 DAS Selection Dialog

After startup the following dialog is displayed to allow the user to choose a DAS option.

CMC Version
The current CMC version selected or found.
Directory Selection
Type
Directory selected by Serial or Aircraft number.
Auto Message Clear

State
Shows the auto message clear status..
Save to floppy
Shows the save to floppy disk status.
Change Options
This option displays the dialog for changing the startup

options as described:
Directory Selection Type: allows the files to be
stored by Tail number or Serial number
Auto Message Clear asks the user if the data
already downloaded shall be erased.

Save to Floppy asks the user if the files already

downloaded to the computer shall also be saved in a
floppy disk.
Full DAS
This option allows full access to all DAS functionalities.
Automatic DAS
This option performs an automatic download of all data

and store the data on a floppy disk if requested. Upon
completion the DAS Selection dialog appears.
FADEC Labels
This option displays the Preview FADEC Realtime

screen followed by the dialog for selecting Analog or
Discrete Labels. Upon completion the DAS Selection
dialog appears.
Exit
This option terminates the Program.

5.3.2 Memory Status Area Dialog

This dialog box appears when the following sequence is used:
Menu option: Preview->Message Status

It displays the status of the DAS internal memory and current files.

Open
Opens the displayed file in an editor.
Status
Indicated the status of the Data Loaded.
OK or Cancel
Exits the dialog.
Clear
Calls the DAS clear memory area dialog.

5.3.3 Clear Memory Areas Dialog

This dialog box appears when the following sequence is used:
Menu option: Preview->Message Status ----- Clear
This function is used to clear the internal data in the DAS program, used to erase previous data in the
displays.

Clear
Clears the internal data in the DAS program.
All
Selects all areas for clearing.
Cancel
Aborts the Clear area operation.

5.3.4 Directory Selection Type Dialog

The access to the option below is through the Change Button in the DAS Selection screen.
This dialog box has the following options:
Directory Selection Type that changes to tail number or serial number the directory name
where the files are stored,
Auto Message Clear State Option that selects if the CMC shall be erased automatically or not
after an automatic downloading and
Save to Floppy Option that requests or not that the files be recorded to a floppy disk after the
downloading is performed.
Note: The OK is used to change the required setting and the Cancel is used to abort any changes made.

5.3.5 Download Dialog

Shows the state of the current download, allows the user to stop or re-start the download.

Messages
Provides messages informing about the downloading

process.
Action
List of downloads to perform.
OK
Exits the dialog.
Cancel
Do not save or clear the data.
Serial Break
Stops the download.
Repeat
Restarts the download after an error has occurred.

5.3.6 FADEC - Label Type Dialog

Menu option: Preview->FADEC Realtime or
Menu option: DAS Selection Screen->FADEC Labels
Used to selects the FADEC label to be displayed in the real-time mode.

Selects Analog or Discrete labels.
FADEC Source
Selects the FADEC Source to monitor.
FADEC Discrete Label Selects which discrete label will be monitored.

5.3.7 FADEC Data Recorder Dialog

Menu option: Tools->FADEC data recorder
This dialog records selected FADEC labels of selected sources.

Data File for storing
File where the record results will be stored.
Browse
Selects the path where the record results file is.
Label Select File
Displays the current file that contains the labels to be

recorded.
Duration of recording
The time in seconds for which the recording will be

active.
Start Record
Initiates the data recording.
Cancel
Aborts the dialog and returns to the Main window.
New
Opens the FADEC Labels Select dialog allowing the

selection of label(s) and source(s) that will be recorded
in the file.
Edits the file created.
Edit

Menu option: Tools->FADEC data recorder --- New or
Menu option: Tools->FADEC data recorder --- Edit
Displays the screen used to select/edit the FADEC labels.

ALL
Selects all labels in its group.
Save As
Saves the label information in a new file.
Save
Saves the label information in the current file.
Cancel
Aborts the changes made.

6.1.1 Aircraft Contents

The Aircraft directory stores the files with the result of the downloading performed.
6.1.2 Doc Contents

The Doc directory contains the DAS release notes file (PDF).
6.1.3 Lbs Contents

The Lbs directory stores the files used for selecting FADEC Labels during a record session. These
files are created and used by the DAS software automatically.
6.1.4 Ini File Contents

The Ini directory allows the program to be configured without being recompiled.

CMC Data
Below is an explanation of how the data is organized, ordered and displayed.
For all data type except the real time data there is a Header followed by the data then a checksum.
The Header defines
How many bytes are contained in the message,
If a CMC memory area is nearly full and a download followed by a Clear is required,
The Aircraft Identification,
Status of the message.
Each data type contains Leg Status, which has the following values.
UNUSED
PREVIOUS
LAST
Leg does not contain any valid data.

Leg contains valid data.
Leg contains valid data and is the current Leg in use.
Each data type may contain Data Status, which has the following values.
UNUSED
USED

Exceeence Data
The Exceedance Message is split into two areas.

1. Leg Information:

2. Leg Data: Maximum 100 Legs with 10 exceedances in each leg.

The Display order is oldest Leg first, newest leg last.
Note: The Leg Status is a circular buffer

The Trend Area contains a Maximum of 75 Legs and each leg contains the following.

The Display order is newest message first, oldest message last.
Note: The Messages are in a circular buffer.

The FADEC Snapshot Area contains a Maximum of 10 Legs.

Realtime ARINC 429 Data

When Real-time mode is activated, the labels are sent continuously for approximately 5 seconds, after
which the real-time mode is switched off and no more data will be received. To receive further labels,
the real-time mode must be reactivated to transmit the labels for a further 5 seconds.
