SESSION 1
1. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 1: Mrs. Zakiah Jaafar (Malaysian Economic Outlook)
Briefly explain about our economic plan which are short-term outlook
and medium-term outlook. In the robust economic prospect it be
discussing about broad-based growth reflects a highly-diversified
economy which it is means that we have learn our lesson in the mid
90s crisis and we are no longer depending on one commodity instead
of broad ranges of commodities. Besides that Malaysian also focusind
on highly-diversified economy in manufacturing and service-based and
moreover we export mainly on manufacturing goods which comprises of
81.2% of total export in 2005. It is stated that also our economic is led
by private sector eventhough it is still consider at the lower pace due
to Asian Financial Crisis 1998. The speaker also mention that both
public and private sector need to work together in order to collect more
revenue. In brief we try to achieved our vision 2020 by producing more
civil minded people and to develop the nation.
2. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 2: Dato Manap Abd.Wahab (Islamic Banking: Are we going
deeper into the lizard hole)
What is meant by the lizard hole is this context of Islamic banking can
be clearly explain and illustrated here where now aday the forbidden
material like wine, hipster, beer, riba and pork is clearly been duplicate
or created to become halal like Islamic hipster, Islamic beer, Islamic,
wine,Islamic bank and Islamic pork. It is said that trading is like Riba
(usury), whereas Allah has permitted trading and forbidden riba. They
have said that trade is like usury and trade has many uncertainties like
the profit is uncertain and the risk is varied. But here Islamic banking Is
different where is have mudaraba and musharaka as the cornerstone of
Islamic banking. It means that the bank that participate in the risk of
the business will share the profit and loss on shared basis. So Islamic
banking is an innovative products and no bank is practicing profit and

loss sharing. Under the resolution of OIC Fiqh Academy it is said that,
is considered a deception i.e. in order to get additional quick cash
from the contarct thus it is consider as riba. But trade is permitable in
Islam and comprise of musawamma and murabaha. But in the business
of banking, Islamic banking share the profit and loss.

3. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 3: Sir Soundrarajan Kaliappan (Maritime Strategy: Malaysia
Perspective)
In this session it is more discussing about our maritime situation and
about the Strait of Malacca. It is said that more than 6,000 ships are
transported in this Strait monthly. It has more than 4,500 km coastline
and sea area is about 600,000 sq. km area. In the military, strategic
usually means to maneuvering troops into position before enemy
engaged. In maritime strategy, where its govern in the sea area while
for naval strategy it govern in the land area. A strategy bridge is the
gap between policy and tactics. As a brief war does not determine who
is right but determine who is left.
4. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 4: Mr.Ramlan Osman (Why Innovation Governance Is not
Antithesis to Growth)
Innovation means newness + value + adoption. Malaysia is at ranking #
87 in readily available funding for techno development but at ranking #
14 in public/private venture in supporting technology development.
Unluckily but we are lacking in human and educational development
and we are at ranking #42 compared Singapore which is at # 26. As
summarize Malaysia is at ranking #45 for human development index
and at ranking #32 for percentage of population with higher education
and lastly, Malaysia at ranking #39 for total public education
expenditure per capita.

5. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 5: Mr.Edwin Chai Ming Ching ( ERP System Implementation and
Project Management)
We need ERP system implementation for integrated solution, to
connect department within the organization, to have one common base
database, to have one master data, to have one common technology
stacks and for single view of truth. Programme Management Operation
consists of programme planning, Programme delivering and programme
closure. Project management also be governance by having a meeting
and reporting. Steering committee Board provides strategic direction
and realization on the strategic benefit. Project manager will conduct
meeting on weekly basis and will be discussing on risks, issues and
progress updates against planned activity. And project leader will leads
the meeting that will be held daily and include representative from
each work stream together. Project methodologies go on several
phases
like,
project
preparation,
blueprint,
realization,
final
preparation and go-live.

6. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 6: Mr. Suleyman Tan Eng Tong
First part is idea generation and second phase is to develop the idea to
become potential product and the third phase is what you do after you
do the product? His idea and build Rubber Company and his biggest
company in Malaysia. Lee Kong Chian is his name. He creates Library in
Singapore. He builds School Of Business in Singapore.
As an
Entrepreneur we need to think big. Develop an idea and make it
realistic. Enron is the fifth largest company in US in 1985. The third
story is about Steve Jobs who creates Apple (iPhone & iPad). Many
people said that his idea is crazy but he believe and make it happened.
Steve jobs have the ability to convince him and other to become reality.
Some people called in as vision and some people called it mission. As a
conclusion we have a choice to do it and we can choose that choice.
7. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 7: Mr. Hambali Mukhlas

Is the owner of jomjamban, to deliver most prominent items to every


bodys bathroom. And widely involve with corporate tower like KLCC,
EXXON, MOBIL, MAXIS and TELEKOM. He has a wide community of
networks like Malay Commerce Chamber (DPMM), Perhebat, MUBIn, and
Mastermind. From his point of view, business is about connecting
people like DABBAWALLA concept means lunch box delivery man
business in India. And try to find solution for the community. There are
3 solutions to provide to community, first, validate the product, create
market driven force and get rid incompetent entrepreneur. Besides
that, skilled and trained are assets to transform into business like his
student academic performance related with toilet condition. And at last
community will gain a good business reward.
8. COURSE SYNOPSIS
Panel 8: Dato Jamal Mohd Amin
He is an engineer lecturer from UKM from 1986 until 1993 and from
1993 until now he is running his own business. His core business is in
property development & construction. He caters small and big projects,
outskirt and city projects, overseas project like in Jakarta, residential &
commercial and Malay reserve and non-Malay reserve land. Second
business is in Education where he builds College Uniti, College Brindley,
College Jaiputra, and for short period of training he has 2 camp which
are PDS resort and camp and Brindley Training Camp. And also he has
PLKN camp. Others business that he is venturing is sanctuary caf and
walit birdness product. In spite of all his big experience in this business
he also experience major economic crisis like in 1997 which the worst of
all because of our credit squeezed. In year 2005, the construction price
is going up and also during that time Jakarta having difficulties in the
construction and in year 2008 the subprime crisis occurred. And he
learns his lesson, for him to be successful in business is to be able to
develop and build a company entity and to have a right philosophy.
