If you havent gone to the new
Moorestown Township website,
you should. You might not recognize it with its new layout.
Moorestown Township has recently launched its new website.
The website is meant to be more
aesthetically
pleasing,
userfriendly and easier to navigate.
Were pleased. It is still a work
in progress, but we think that this
website will be far more userfriendly, and you can see, just by
looking at it, that it is more attractive, Township Manager

Growing into a family

Started in 2003, the Moorestown Theater Company will celebrate a milestone
this month with its 100th production, Disneys Sleeping Beauty, Kids
By BRIGIT BAUMA
The Sun
The first show performed by
the Moorestown Theater Company in 2003 was Annie. In the
show, all little orphan Annie

wants is a family.
Twelve years later and 99 productions after, the MTC has become like a family with all members involved being supportive
of each other and coming back
to the shows to perform or watch

when they can. Like Annie eventually finding her family, members of the Moorestown community have found a family in the
MTC.

New Jersey needs a new deal

What we have going on now isnt working for our economy

he economy is brighter across

the nation, but somehow, here
in New Jersey, things are actually going in the opposite direction.
The Garden State had the sixth
highest unemployment rate in the nation in March. The states unemployment rate of 6.5 is a full point above
the nations 5.5 mark.
Since October, the economy has continued to improve in every state except
for seven, with New Jersey among that
poor performing group. Our states unemployment rate has actually increased since then!
Last weeks stats released by the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics served as
more bad economic news for our state.
First, of course, came the announcement from Moodys Investors Service
that the company had downgraded
New Jerseys credit rating yet again,
for the ninth time during Gov.
Christies time in office, from A1 to A2

economic funk it is in? Share your

this time, citing a lack of improvement in the states weak financial position and recent pension-funding
shortfalls.
Christie is headed to court over the
pension fiasco, in which he proposes
to contribute $1.3 billion to pension
funds, less than half of what he promised to do when he signed a pension
overhaul bill in 2011. What comes of
the litigation, and how he or our next
governor fixes the pension system, is
anyones guess.
What should be clear to everyone,
though, is that we need a new deal.
FDR used a New Deal to get the country out of the Great Depression; New

Jersey needs a similar one to get it out

of the Great Recession that the rest of
the nation seems to have climbed out
of.
Where do we start? How about with
our roads.
If you drive around, youll find plenty of potholes, uneven pavement,
cracks and other landmines to navigate. Many small towns have difficulty
repairing it all on their own, and county and state governments often control
many of these roads.
So why not spend some money on
fixing the problem? Send some money
to local governments to get on street
repairs and improvements not just
massive construction efforts on highways.
Fixing our roads would improve the
quality of life for all of us in New Jersey, and it would also create plenty of
new jobs to help jumpstart our economy.

Council gives update on water restriction

By BRIGIT BAUMA
The Sun
At the Moorestown Council meeting on
Monday, May 4, Township Manager Scott
Carew gave an update on Moorestowns
water emergency order that was issued
last week, while Township Clerk Patricia
L. Hunt also gave an update on the changing of some district polling places.
To encourage water conservation and to
reduce peak water demand, the township
found it necessary to impose mandatory restrictions to conserve the municipal water
supply. Carew felt there was some misunderstanding with the order and wished to
let residents know this is a permanent poli-

cy and the township just sends this order

as a reminder each year.
I think it was misunderstood by some.
We had put out the annual water conservation policy that the township has. This is
the same water conservation policy that we
enact every single year, Carew said. We
just put this out each year to remind residents.
According to a release the township sent
recently, these restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in effect. A ban
on the use of automatic sprinklers and
sprinkler systems between 9 a.m. and 5
p.m. daily is in effect. Hand-held hoses,
however, are allowed at all times on permitted days.

Homeowners or businesspersons with

addresses ending in odd numbers are permitted to water or sprinkle their properties
on odd numbered days. Homeowners or
businesspersons with addresses ending in
even numbers are permitted to water or

sprinkle their properties on even
numbered days.
In regard to polling, Hunt sent
a notice of a permanent polling
place change for all elections for
voters in districts 8, 10, 14, 18, 19
and 20. This change was brought
about by the school administration asking that voting not be
held in schools.
The school district has come to
the township before to ask for a
change of location, but was denied. This year, its reason for
change was brought about by concerns with security with the
schools and ease of access to the
polling locations. With the new
construction happening at the
schools, access to the schools
would be a lot more difficult,
which would be an inconvenience
to voters. In the spirit of cooperation, the township decided to look
at alternate locations. After visiting various locations, the township decided on four different lo-

cations.
Voting is all about convenience to the voters, Hunt said.
The township posted a release
to the website and sent postcards
to those affected by the change.
The school district will also send
an email blast to all parents.
If you are a voter in one of
those six districts, beginning
with the June 2 Primary Election,
residents will vote at one of these
new locations:
District
8:
First
United
Methodist Church, 446 Camden
Ave.
District 10: First Presbyterian
Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road
District 14: The Evergreens, 309
Bridgeboro Road
Districts 18, 19 and 20: Burlington County Agriculture Center,
500 Centerton Road
One of the positive things that
came about from this change is
that it would bring out residents
to places they might not normally

visit, Hunt said.

If you have any questions or
concerns about this change, contact Hunt at the Township of
Moorestown, 111 W. Second St., or
by calling (856) 235 0912.

Sleeping Beauty begins May 13

SLEEPING
Continued from page 1
That family will hit a milestone
this month, as MTC will be performing its 100th show, First

Stage 15 Disneys Sleeping

Beauty, Kids on May 13, 15 and
16.
Its really exciting that MTC
will hit its 100th show. Im really
glad to be a part of it. To be able to
say that I was in the 100th production is something I will always re-

member, Rocco Ruccolo, playing

the part of Prince Phillip in the
show, said.
The MTC, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2003 under
the leadership of producing artistic director Mark Morgan, managing director and Morgans wife
Carol Ann Murray and administrative director Annette De Rosa.
It seems like it was just yesterday, De Rosa said. I remember it
vividly. It sure doesnt seem like it
was 13 years ago.
Since 2003, the MTC produces
year-round community theater
musicals for audience members
of all ages. In all its years, the
MTC has never cut anyone from a
show. In total, the company has
presented 450 performances of 99
productions with 4,495 cast members, including current Deputy
Mayor Phil Garwood, Councilman Greg Newcomer, Burlington
County Freeholder Aimee Belgard, Freeholder Joseph Donnelly, Assemblyman Troy Singleton
and 6 ABCs Rick Williams. The
company is also in its 10th season
of its Summer Stage, an awardwinning
childrens
summer
camp.
The MTC provides a venue for
children and families to come and
enjoy theater. Theyre a very wellfounded theater company and
program that brings families together for lots of enjoyment,
said Garwood, whose entire family has been involved in previous
productions.
I really like it because they
have excellent directors and
teachers. And whenever I do
MTC, the cast becomes a family,
Ruccolo said.
Since its inception, the MTC
has been known to be a family.
Adults and children are encouraged to get involved and gain new
friendships as well as new skills.
The company is also very involved in the community, performing at different events
throughout Moorestown such as
Moorestown Day and parades.
It gives kids and parents a
place to meet new people, and get
involved in the community, Ashley Durante, director of Disneys
Sleeping Beauty, Kids, said.

encourage players to work on
skills through game play. Such
skills as stick skills, shooting and
offensive and defensive tactics
will be covered. This is the perfect clinic for young girls looking
to improve the fundamentals of
the game.
The Boys and Girls Soccer
Clinic is a favorite of Moorestown
youth. Under the direction of
coach Rich McConnell, the emphasis of this program is to develop solid soccer players in a fun
and educational environment. By
teaching foundational skills,
sportsmanship and general soccer knowledge, young soccer players develop strong fundamentals,
which allow them to grow and develop. This program will run
from June 22-25 from 9 a.m. to
10:30 a.m., also on the Wesley
Bishop Turf fields.
For the all-around athlete, the
Boys and Girls Sports Camp is
the perfect option! Youth will be
divided into age groups, ages 5-7
and 8-12, so that age appropriate
developmental skills can be addressed. This camp will be offered Aug. 17-21 and Aug. 24-28 at
Jeff Young Fields. Located at the
beautiful Jeff Young Park, youth
will learn and fine-tune fundamental soccer, baseball, softball,
street hockey, tennis, basketball
and flag football skills. Participants will learn proper dietary
habits, stretching/warm-up routines, practice techniques and
drills developed to improve their
skills. Coached by Terry OBrien,
small group instruction will give
children the opportunity to work
with mentors and participate in
live games.
And finally, the Instructional
Basketball Clinic will be offered
again on Thursday evenings from
June 18-Aug. 6. From 5 p.m. to 8
p.m., age specific groups will
learn under the direction of
coach Stuart and his outstanding
staff. Players will learn proper dietary habits, stretching/warm up
routines and practice drills to de-

velop their skills. Youth will be

given an opportunity to showcase
their skills during live-game action. Coach Stuart will provide
every player the opportunity
learn and fine-tune his or her fundamental basketball skills. Matt
Stuart was inducted into the
Caldwell College Hall of Fame,
played professionally for five
years, and has been coaching/instructing multiple levels of basketball for the past 20 years.

OBrien has been coaching

and teaching for more than 20
years.

THEATER
Continued from page 12
Known as a champion for the
children, MTC helps to bring out
confidence in its performers,
helping shy kids come out of
their shells. And theres always
been a spot on its stage for special
needs kids.
From performing myself, I always got out of it the confidence
to talk in front of others. It made
me feel like a better version of
myself. Performing was always a
confidence boost for me, and I
hope the kids in here get the same
feeling, Durante said.
Its wonderful to work with
the special needs children; they
really change our lives, Murray
said.

In the future, the MTC hopes to

have its own venue, as the company performs at different locations
across South Jersey from churches to schools. It is also looking forward to the next milestone of 200
shows.
For the companys 100th production, there will be a 100 Photo
Board where audience members
will be able to take selfies at
each First Stage 15 performance
with two photo boards showing
the covers of all 100 productions
in MTCs history; singing of the
MTCs Theme Song Tomorrow
from Annie before each performance; and a Summer Stage
free week give-away, where, at the
end of intermission of each performance, one free week of a
three-week Summer Stage 15 Session will be given away.
Im encouraging alumni to
come back and be part of the cele-

bration, Morgan said.

Disneys Sleeping Beauty,
Kids will be performed at Hope
Community Church, 235 W. Main
St. in Moorestown, on Wednesday,
May 13 and Friday, May 15 at 7
p.m. and Saturday, May 16 at 10
a.m. and 2 p.m. This show has a
34-member cast of 6- to 12-yearolds. Tickets for this musical are
reserved, and can be purchased
online at www.MoorestownTheaterCompany.org or at the door 60
minutes before curtain time.
I think it will be really good,
just as good as adults. Its a good
show with talented kids, said
Juliet Morgan, who is playing the
part of Maleficent and will also
be in her 100th production with
this show.

RESIDENTS
Continued from page 1
These tabs all drop down into
helpful subsections that break
down departments or information so pages can be easier to find.
The search bar is up front and
center in the middle of the page.
According to Carew, this was chosen because the committee wanted it to be quick and easy for people to find and use to search the
website. Next to the search bar
are green boxes that link to the
townships social media pages
such as Facebook and Twitter.
Scrolling down the page will
show to the left a Recent News
box and to the right an Upcoming Events box. Clicking on
View All under Upcoming
Events will bring you to a calendar where the township, schools,
Moorestown Business Association, Recreation Department and
other township organizations
will be able to post events. As of

now, the township is limiting

those who can post to the calendar to community organizations,
Carew said.
In the center of the website
youll be able to see scrolling pictures of places in Moorestown.
Carew said they plan to take different
pictures
in
the
Moorestown and have those pictures match the season.
When you go on the website in
the summer, it will look different
than if you go on in the winter,
Carew said.
At the bottom of the screen in
green are other useful tabs such
as Notify Me, Report a Concern,
Employment, Online Payments,
and Agendas & Minutes.
For those who wish to get
alerts on things that are happening in town, or wish to report a
problem such as a pothole, youd
have to register with an email
and password. Once a concern is
reported, it will be followed up by
a staff member, and youll be able
to track its progress with the
membership.

As of now, the township has yet

to install and implement the community development software
that will help those going through
the zoning and construction approval process, but that is being
worked on.
We think it is a great start,
and were really happy with it.
We think the public will be as
well, Carew said.
Members who helped work
with CivicPlus on the website
were Township Clerk Patricia L.
Hunt,
IT
director
John
Polkiewicz, Karen Daily, Parks
and Recreations director Theresa
Miller, Mayor Victoria Napolitano and Carew.
I wanted to thank the committee that worked with CivicPlus
and put this together, Carew
said.
Carew asks members of the
public for both positive and negative feedback on the website. He
would like to know what is working, what isnt and what can be
improved. You can contact him
through the website under the
Government tab labeled Township Manager, with the Contact
Us link and with the Report a
Concern button.
Well continue to strive to
make this website as user-friendly and helpful to the public as possible, Carew said.
Councilwoman Stacey Jordan
felt the website is off to a good
start. Napolitano made sure to
thank those who helped with the
website and let the public know
they worked hard and kept their
word on when the website would
be up.
I just wanted to thank everyone in the township who has gotten this off the ground. It is very
rare for a technical project to release on time, and the fact that we
were able to get this out on our
target launch date really is a credit to the team. The team talked
about the website for a long time
and were very diligent in picking
the right vendor. I think it is obvious we made the right choice, and
I really think this is going to improve the user experience of the
people of Moorestown, Napolitano said.
