“Our family of beekeepers, from one generation to the next, founded
Apimab Laboratoires in 1979, based on our pioneering mastery of
one-of-a-kind expert know-how: the extraction and purification
of propolis.

Propolis extracts (in liquid and powdered form) have been

recognised by many laboratories for their high quality and have
become the active base for our beauty, wellness and hygiene
specialities. They are combined with the benefits of plants and
other bee products.

In 2007, Apimab Laboratoires made the decision to develop

certified organic products that are respectful of biodiversity,
formulated to meet the demand of consumers who are increasingly
mindful of environmental issues.

40 years of passion...
The adventure of Apimab Laboratoires began in 1975
near Clermont l'Hérault (France), in the hills shaped by the
Mediterranean climate overlooking Salagou Lake.

Beekeeper Marc-Alain Bernard installs his first hives,

determined to share his love of bees in the form of
their best-known sweet treat: honey. Over the years,
his honey farm will expand to more than 600 hives.

One thing leading to another, curious about what the

hardworking little insect could make, he focussed on a
material which had, up until that stage, been considered
as a "waste" product of the hive, namely “propolis”. As it
happens, a material to which history gives many attributes.

After considerable work of research and

experimentation, he managed to develop complex
processes of purification and transformation
of the propolis to extract all its properties and so
eventually the first harvest of propolis was achieved
- the precursor to the vast majority of the company's
current range of products.

PURE PRODUCTS
In 1979, the Propolia® brand is created, and the first
product is launched: Propolis Pastilles. Although
they are now available in seven different flavours, the
recipe remains unchanged and they are still one of our
customers’ favourites.

By 1985, the Propolia® range is already distributed
by many French beekeepers, in a sales network that
has continued to grow ever since. This is also the year
when the brand opens its first shop, La Miellerie du
Salagou, right next door to its lab in Clermont-l’Hérault,
near the Mediterranean.

HYGIENE
In 1990, Propolia® launches its first cosmetics to expand
its range of food supplements and apitherapy products.
Propolia® now stands for more than 100  products

In 2016, a new extension was added onto the old lab,

built in 2005. That building, which spans 3000  m²,
is fitted with solar panels and is now home to all the
Apimab Laboratoires teams: Research & Development,
Production, Packaging, Logistics, Customer Service, etc.

The future of our ecosystems and of bees is a daily concern for us. We firmly believe that,
by encouraging the development of more wholesome farming methods, we can gradually create
ecosystems which are, in particular, more conducive to the development of apiculture in France
and Europe.

PROPOLIA
PROPOLIS,
A RARE AND UNIQUE SUBSTANCE

PURE PRODUCTS
Definition
Propolis is a mix of resinous, mastic and balsamic substances collected by bees from the buds of
certain plants and trees, e.g. from poplars (especially in the French and European Propolis).

Propolis, which in Greek means "in front of the city", is used to block holes, points of ingress or to

fill any gaps in the hive as a natural barrier in order to protect the colony against predators and
microbiological attack.

A unique material in nature

Propolis contains a multitude of active substances, among them flavonoids, phenolic acids,
aromatic acids and numerous trace elements that make it a unique substance found in nature.
In recent years, scientific research has focused on Propolis and highlighted its significant potential
importance for human well-being - it is naturally unique.

Nicely amber coloured (a reddish brown) and with a viscous consistency, bees alter the composition
of the resin harvested by adding secretions and wax. Containing other impurities due to beekeeping

activities and the bees themselves (wood particles, dead bees, pollen, sand...), Propolis needs to be
purified before human use.

The smell and taste of propolis are very characteristic. Its smell is that of the beehive and of
nature, reminiscent of coniferous forests, with vanilla and hyacinth scents. Its taste stings in the
mouth, a testament of its effectiveness.

A precious harvest
A number of foraging bees specialise in this difficult work. They collect the resin out of the buds with
their tongue, mandibles and back legs. These foragers then return to the hive where these big drops

are deposited for various uses: to varnish the walls of the hive, to repair and sterilise cells or to coat
and embalm foreign bodies - all of which ensure the sanitisation of the hive.

The beekeeper removes Propolis from the hive without harming the colony:
- by annually scraping the frames of the hives
- by retrieving the Propolis from the traps specifically set for the bees to deposit these essential
resins.
On average between 100g and 300g per hive per year is harvested. This shows how rare and
precious a substance Propolis is.

Propolis tincture is an ancestral product, prepared according to

proven, recognised traditional methods. The tincture is made using
a manufacturing process which was developed by Propolia® more
than 40 years ago in order to adapt the extraction, maceration and
purification procedures to the specific features of propolis, a natural

In hives, propolis helps reinforce the bees’ natural defences and the

A solution adapted to the skin
This alcohol-free, non-essential oil solution concentrates the benefits of
Propolis and is for use on the skin. The organic olive oil encourages a gentle
application on the skin and oral mucous membrane where the propolis
soothes and sanitises. It can also be used directly onto the gums.
Tested under dermatological control

To soothe the skin: apply the product directly with the pipette onto the

THE MOST MIRACULOUS SUBSTANCE IN THE HIVE

Royal jelly is a light yellow substance with a particular smell. It is produced in the hive
by young nurse bees. It is the only food of the queen and the larvae. The properties of
this "super royal diet" allow the queen to live on average up to 5 years, whereas worker
bees have a life expectancy of only 45 days.

What is its composition?

Royal jelly contains multiple compounds: it contains water, about 11% carbohydrates, 13% proteins,
5% lipids and many minerals, trace elements and vitamins, mainly from the B group. Royal jelly also
contains amino acids such as aspartic acid and glutamic acid, as well as enzymes.

Have you ever heard of BEE BREAD?

Bee Bread is a pollen mixed with honey and enzymes shaped by forager bees and
naturally fermented in the hive. Rich in vitamins, lactic acid, enzymes and minerals,
the pollen is thus transformed into a "super-food" that is easily assimilated by the
body. It is also rich in fibre and protein and is highly sought after for its "energy

Pollen harvest

PURE PRODUCTS
Pollen is collected by bees from the pistil of a wide variety of flowers. Bees collect it before the
beekeepers do. The collected pollen is mixed with the bee' s saliva and forms large grains carried
back to the hive on their rear legs. The forager bees bring the pollen back, pass through the pollen
trap (comb-shaped) which is adjusted to their size and placed at the entrance to the hive. Comparable
to a check point at the entrance of the plane: just like the excess luggage that is sent to the hold, the
pollen grains exceeding the size of the trap door, come loose and fall into a basket. Only 10% of the
pollen brought back by the bees is collected by the beekeeper. As soon as it is collected, the pollen
is frozen or dried by the beekeeper to ensure good conservation and thus maintain all its qualities.
 
What is the pollen's composition?

WELL-BEING
Pollen contains 18 amino acids, including all the essential amino acids that cannot be synthesised
by the body and must be provided by the diet (such as tryptophan, leucine, lysine or methionine). Its
protein content is around 20%. It also contains carbohydrates and lipids. In addition, pollen offers a
variety of minerals (magnesium, iron, selenium, zinc, calcium, copper, etc.) and vitamins (B1, B2, B3,
B5, B6, B9, C and E) as well as plant micro-constituents (polyphenols, phytosterols). The honey
used during the pollen collection process (formation of pollen grains) provides numerous lactic
ferments and enzymes to the pollen.

How to consume pollen?

Pollen is particularly recommended for breakfast, especially for children and sports enthusiasts.
This beehive's product can be taken during periods of intense physical or intellectual effort. Here are
two recipes for a breakfast full of energy!

Fruit salad with honey Wholegrain cereals with fresh cheese

Cut half a banana, half an apple, half a pear and Mix 60 g of fresh cheese with 60 g of peach
then add 4 strawberries, 1 spoonful of lemon juice. Then add 60 g of wholemeal flakes,
juice, 1 teaspoon of pollen and honey. Stir 1  peach cut into small pieces, a handful of
slowly. It's ready to eat!  dried fruit and 1 spoonful of honey. Sprinkle
with 1 spoonful of pollen.

Back to scratch: start again on a healthy basis - the clarification

Doing a clarification is like exfoliating your hair: it helps to get rid it of the accumulated products,

favourite Propolia shampoo (it will foam!) and wash it normally. Beware, the hair will end up as if it
