Summary
Stannis Baratheon's ships sail towards the shores of King's Landing, led by
Davos Seaworth and his son. During the night, Tywin Lannister and his mistress Shae
discuss the possibility of Stannis winning the battle. Grand Maester Pycelle gives Queen
Cersei poison to take in case Stannis breaks through the walls of the castle.
Bronn's drinking and singing is rudely interrupted by Sandor "The Hound"
Clegane. They're about to fight, until bells signalling the arrival of Stannis's ships begin to
ring.
Lord Varys gives Tyrion a map of escape tunnels under the castle, just in case,
and tells him the deposed king Aegon Targaryen had built the castle in such a way to
withstand a siege.
Before he sets off to lead his troops, Joffrey makes Sansa kiss his sword.
However, she says, "My brother Robb was always in the vanguard, and he's only a
pretender." Sansa and Shae go back to the saferoom for the noble ladies and the Queen,
where they are under the protection of Ser Ilyn Payne.
The Lannister troops get into formation on the walls of King's Landing and watch
the Baratheon ships begin to enter Blackwater Bay. A single Lannister ship is sent to
approach them. Davos sees the ship leaking liquid wildfire, the combustible substance
Tyrion had asked the alchemist to stock. Tyrion gives the signal and Bronn shoots a
flaming arrow into the spreading pool of wildfire and sets it alight. The entire bay
explodes, sinking most of Stannis's ships.
Cersei keeps on refilling her wine glass, and forces Sansa to drink with her. She
mocks Sansa, telling her that soldiers will not hesitate to rape and torture the women
should the Baratheons win. She then reveals that Ser Ilyn Payne, who the ladies think is
present to defend them, is actually there to kill them if Stannis makes it to the castle's
hold.
Stannis's surviving troops land on the shores and begin ramming the walls. The
Lannister soldiers batter them with heavy rocks and arrows, and Tyrion sends the Hound
out to lead the first attack on the Baratheon army. The Hound, who is secretly terrified of
fire after being burned by his brother as a child, sees the flames from the explosion and
leaves the fighting.
Cersei hears from cousin Lancel that the Baratheons are attacking the walls, and
orders him to bring Joffrey inside. Joffrey complies without much fuss, which totally
demoralizes the rest of the Lannister troops. Luckily, Tyrion steps up and gives a stirring
speech about protecting loved ones. He then uses Lord Varys's map to lead the men
through the tunnels and attack the Baratheon army from behind.

Lancel tells Cersei to let Joffrey go back and fight, because Stannis and some of
his men have actually breached the castle. Cersei refuses and drags her younger son
Tommen out of the hold, leaving the rest of the noble ladies with Ser Ilyn Payne. Sansa
begins to lead them in a prayer, but Shae pulls her aside and tells her to go to her room
and shut the door. Sansa finds the Hound in her room; he tells her he's leaving King's
Landing, and will take her back to Winterfell if she wants to leave.
Tyrion's tunnel strategy seems to defeat the Baratheon soldiers at the gate with
ease, however, they are soon attacked by fresh soldiers just arrived on shore. Tyrion gets
wounded badly, but his squire Podrick saves him. Just when it seems that the Lannisters
have lost, several soldiers arrive, led by Renly's former lover, Ser Loras Tyrell to finish off
the rest of the Baratheon soldiers. Stannis, screaming with fury, is pulled to safety.
Cersei sits on the Iron Throne with Tommen, and tells him the story of a lion cub
who became king of the forest. She is about to give Tommen and herself the poison when
her father Tywin Lannister pulls open the doors to the hall. "We've won," he says.
VI.

The most memorable scene was the one where Stannis ships arrive at
Blackwater bay and find that the Lannisters only sent one ship. The scene was so quiet
and filled with tension, then suddenly it was all broken by the flaming arrow Bronn shot at
the lone ship, which caused all the wildfire to explode, destroying most of Stannis fleet.
