OBJECTIVES
To control activities for maintaining and calibrating equipment related to
individual specific services.
All repair and calibration shall only be carried out by vendor approved by SACSINGLAS where available

2.0

SCOPE & REFERENCES


2.1

SCOPE
This Procedure shall apply to all the following equipment used for their
respective services.

Magnetic Particle Testing:


Electromagnetic Yoke
White Light Meter
Radiographic Testing:
Radiation Survey Meter
Densitometer
Ultrasonic Testing:
Ultrasonic Flaw Detector
Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge Meter

3.0

PROCEDURE
3.1

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Technical Manager shall be responsible for:

Ordering any new equipment required or use in respective services;


Developing a serial number and registration of all new equipment;
Monitor the effectiveness of the system;
Developing and maintaining a system to tag all equipment.

The operations Manager shall be responsible for:

Maintaining and Updating list of all equipment records, calibration


certificates / reports;
Implementing and control of the system;
Ensure that correct and up-to-date calibrated equipment are ready to use;
Recall equipment due for calibration;
In-house verification check for special equipment;
Implementation of the Calibration and Maintenance Procedure.

SYSTEM
3.2.1

Serial number on all new equipment shall be recorded and updated in


the calibration / reports file. Should there be no serial number on the
equipment, a unique number shall be developed for registration and
identification.

3.2.2 Calibration equipment shall have sticker to identify the serviceability of the
equipment with the following information:

Serial number;
Date of calibration;
Next due date Calibration;
Authorised Signature.

3.2.3 Equipment which is due for calibration within a month shall be tagged and
Marked as "DUE FOR CALIBRATION ON date".
Operation Manager shall then make arrangement to recall equipment and sent
to vendor approved by SAC-SINGLAS for calibration before due date.
3.2.4 Equipment which is reported damaged, out of calibration, faulty, etc. shall
be tagged and marked "UNSERVICEABLE- DO NOT USE".
Arrangement shall then be made to sent the said equipment to approved
vendor for recalibration, repair, etc..
3.3

CALIBRATION STANDARDS & FREQUENCY


All equipment shall be calibrated and traceable to their respective
reference National Standard or Code / Specification requirements.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE EQUIPMENT

i) Electromagetic Yoke shall be calibrated once every six (6)


months.
ii) White Light Meter shall be calibrated once yearly for reference light meter and 6
monthly for working light meter.

RADIOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT
i) Radiation Survey Meter shall be calibrated once every twelve (12)
months.
ii) Densitometer shall be calibrated once every ninety (90) days of use
against the National Bureau of Standards X-Ray Film Strip Tablet,
Standard Reference Material 1001.

ULTRASONIC EQUIPMENT
i) Ultrasonic Flaw Detector shall be calibrated once every 40 hours.

Equipment, material or accessories calibration and verification schedules in accordance to SACSinglas requirements (Appendix 1 to Appendix 4).
4.0

RECORDS
Operation Manager shall maintain the calibration records for a minimum of 2 years.

Appendix 1 Magnetic Particle Testing Equipment and Material calibration and
verification schedule.
Appendix 2 Ultrasonic Testing Equipment and Accessories calibration and
verification Schedule.
Appendix 3 Radiography Testing Equipment and Accessories calibration and
verification Schedule.
Appendix 4 Dye Penetrant Testing Equipment and Material calibration and
verification Schedule.
