    *Last Safeguards: Standing Your Ground, Guns, & The Right To Self Defense The importance of protecting people's right to defend themselves cannot be overstated. Stripping the 2nd amendment would leave our country in a state where the only people with guns would be the police & government agencies who've become increasingly violently militarized & corrupt... Oh, & the violent criminals. Everywhere that has stripped the common man of their rights to protect themselves with the same weapons the aggressors can access has resulted in greater violence & bloodshed, rather than less. Who knows what atrocities have been averted by the 300,000,000 or so guns in our country that are largely kept responsibly for protection. Guns aren't just for taking lives. They protect & save them, too. The city of Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the nation & their levels of violence only went up with the loss of their rights to defend themselves. They have a tendency towards hundreds of murders a year, having repeatedly topped out at over 500. Gun control causes violent crime to escalate. The genocidal/fascist governments have consistently shown that their preferred method of carrying this out, is eroding the rights of the people through manipulation until they finally disarm them. Once people are disarmed, who is there to resist orders that are unethical or worse? If you are unarmed and an armed person starts killing everyone around you, you have little recourse but to pray someone else with a gun puts a stop to it before everyone is killed. If you are unarmed, and an armed group menaces your family, there's not much you can do. If you are unarmed and a man with a gun gives you orders, you don't have much say, as you are in no position to argue. In a country where everything is quickly spinning out of control, one of the last safeguards in place against total tyranny is the knowledge that there are many millions of armed citizens who will defend themselves & their loved ones should the need arise. That is a pretty powerful incentive for those who would want to undermine our freedom to seize upon any and all excuses to attempt to force disarmament. Prohibition of any sort doesn't work. It just changes the dynamics of who controls a situation. It removes access only from the law-abiding common man. The increasingly abusive authorities & violent criminals will still, always be able to get access. Prohibition has been shown to escalate crime in every instance, creating a black market where violent cartels take over supply & demand, often in tandem with clandestine branches of our own government. Our government has repeatedly & consistently shown that its willing to hold itself above the law as it plays both sides of prohibition to make use of the power and illicit funds it wields, yet faking the moral high ground incarcerating millions of people & using them as a virtual slave labor force while subsidizing companies that utilize that slave labor &/or ship american jobs overseas. They have consistently shown that they are willing to sink to unscrupulous depths as pretexts for draconian measures to erode our freedoms as they push their fascist agendas.
