EXCAVATION
1. Trenches are excavated to depths, lines and grades as shown in the Plans.
2. Trenches for Drainage pipes are excavated after the subgrade is prepared, before laying the Sub
base.
4. Rock is excavated to minimum overdepth and backfilled and graded with loose, moist earth or
small gravel.
3. If no, sufficient cover is provided over the pipes to protect the pipes from crushing.

1. Forms are straight, free from warp, adequate to resist distortion and extend to the full depth of the
concrete.
2. All forms are staked securely in position.

4. Tops pre-formed fillers are set 5 mm. below the top of the finished sidewalk.
5. The surface is cut through to depth of 10 mm with a trowel at intervals of 1 meter or where

REINFORCEMENT
1. Steel reinforcement is placed in the position shown on the Drawings.

EXECUTION
1. Mortar is used within 30 minutes of preparation.
2. The top of the curb/gutter is floated smooth and the edges rounded to the radius shown on the
Drawings.
3.
Separate mortar coat or working dry cement onto the surface is not used for finishing.
4. Section templates are removed while the forms are still in place.
5. Forms used against the face of combination curb and gutter is removed as soon as the concrete
can sufficiently hold its place.
6.
Forms used against curb or gutter are removed within 24 hours after concrete is placed.

STRIPPING
1. Expansion joints set at 25 m. intervals coincide with the expansion joints of cement concrete
pavements or as shown in the Drawings.
