At the end of the course, students should be able to:

understand how to use the skills of skimming and scanning to interpret texts
(C1);
interpret meaning of words based on relevant information and clues in the
texts (C3);
identify main ideas and supporting details in the texts (C4);
make inferences and draw conclusions (C4);
assess the text by determining its composition of facts and opinions (C6)

Course Description
This course is a review of fundamental reading skills necessary for understanding
academic texts at tertiary level. It focuses on building and enhancing students
ability to interpret content and analyse the organisation of ideas in reading texts. It is
recommended that tasks and activities are discipline-based.
