Objective:

After a series of activities, the Grade IV pupils are expected to identify

the three to four-sided polygons with 75 % level of accuracy.
Values: Cooperation and accuracy
II.

Subject Matter:
A. Topic
B. Reference

: Identifying Three to Four-Sided Polygons

: PELC 4, pp. 335-338

C. Materials
: charts, flashcards, pictures of shapes, strips of paper,
manila paper,
Pentlepen, scissors, ruler, glue and old newspaper
D. Concepts
: A polygon is a closed figure. A three-sided polygon
is called triangle. A
Four-sided polygon is called quadrilateral.
Three-sided polygons are divided into three:
Isosceles Triangle that has two equal sides; Scalene
Triangle that has no equal sides and Equilateral Triangle
that has three equal sides.
Four-sided polygons are divided into five: Square
that has four equal sides and all angles are right angles;
Rectangle that has two equal sides and all angles are
right angles; Trapezoid that has one pair of parallel sides;

Class, what did we discuss last

meeting?
Thats right! And with regards Sir, we discussed about the kinds of

I will flash cards and you will
guess the kind of angle being
described on each flashcard.

B.
Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
Class, observe the chalkboard Sir, it is rectangle.
in front, what do you think its
shape?
Because, it is composed of four sides
Very good!
Why did you say that it is a with two equal sides.
rectangle?
Very good!

Yes, it is a polygon, because it is a

closed-figure.

Do you think that rectangle is

a polygon? Why?
Thats right!
2. Presentation
Class, I will show you two sets
of figures. Tell me what are the
similarities of all the figures in
one set and differences of the
figures between two sets.
Set A

All the figures in Set A have three sides

while all the figures in Set B have four
sides.
Set B

Thats right!
Based on your observation on
the figures, what do you think

our topic for today?

Exactly!

About three to four-sided polygons.

3. Discussion
Class, going back to the two Yes, sir!
sets of figures. Are all these
figures a polygon?
Why do you think it is a Because, it is a closed figure.
polygon?
Thats right. Now let us focus
on the first set of figures.
These polygons are called
triangles.

Isosceles
Equilateral

Scalene

A triangle is a three-sided closed figure

or polygon.

Based on these figures how

will you describe triangle?
Very good!
Now
children, a triangle is
divided into three kinds. The
Isosceles Triangle, Scalene
Triangle
and
Equilateral
Triangle. And all the sides
have corresponding measure.
You will describe each kind of
triangle by filling up the table.

4. Exercises/Fixing Skills

out.

describe
the
polygon he/she got. Did you
get me, class?
Isosceles Triangle. It is threesided polygon that has two equal sides.
An Scalene Triangle. It is a

three-sided polygon that has no or 0

equal sides.

An Equilateral Triangle. It is a
three-sided polygon that has three
equal sides.

A square is a four-sided polygon

with four equal sides and all angles are
right angles.

A rectangle. It is a four-sided
polygon that has two equal sides and all
angles are right angles.
A trapezoid. It is a four-sided
polygon that has two equal sides and
one pair of parallel sides.
A rhombus. It is a four-sided
polygon that has four equal sides and
two pairs of parallel sides.
A Parallelogram. It is a foursided polygon that has two equal sides
and two pairs of parallel sides.
C. Generalization
Class, earlier we fill up the
table in order to describe the
kinds of polygons. Now I will
remove the strips and jumble
it down. You will get one strip Yes, sir!

Why
it

important
to
cooperate in a group activity?

So that the group activity will finished

early or ahead of time.

Thats right!
D. Application
Class, you will have a group
activity. I will group you into
four. Each group must choose
a leader who will serve as
reporter and a secretary who
will write the output.

Using the newspaper, each

group will cut two polygons
according to the direction
given. Then paste it in the
manila paper creatively. Write
the name of the polygon and
indicate
the
correct
measurement.

There is a
mistake in
either the
